Ok...I was watching Zuko Alone for the second time today, and I think I found out why Ozai hates Zuko so much...remember...just a theory. ninja
I think that when Ozai was talking to Azulon about changing the inheritance of the throne so that Ozai would get it and Azulon said that he would have to kill his first born son because Iroh's son died. Maybe Ursa heard about it and since she loved Zuko so much, she became the sacrifice in place of him. Then MAYBE Ozai really began hating Zuko because his beloved wife died for him... sweatdrop just a thought...if you don't understand, just PM me and maybe I can explain it better.

i think he hated him somewhat before then, but yeah, i think his zuko was spared by his mother's sacrifice.

wait Ursa was a sacrfice? i always thought she ran away from the palace hence she was wearing a cloak or is that what you mean by sacrifice

i think she's alive, cus who puts on a cloak, wakes up her son, and leaves really early in the morning? my vote is that she couldn't bare how things were going in the palace and left. though why she didn't take Zuko is just confusing. cus remember during Azulon's funeral they don't mention Ursa as beign dead. infact they don't mention her at all.
but remember what Zuko said, "Azula is a liar" is she could have been possibly lying about the whole sacrifice your son thing just to spook zuko and have him wonder where she is. plus, Ozai never said anything when she asked, so there could be actually a number possiblities as to what happened to her. it just isn't clear

I mean, think about it, though Zuko is the eldest, he never really was successful along the lines of accomplishments.... its almost like Azula inherited her fathers evil streak, and as a result of her tyrrany,. she became her father's favorite. Its almost like Azula assumed the role of the son... *if that makes any sense*

I think its more of the fact that Zuko is truely deep down, a kind hearted person, and his father can see that, and in return sees it as a major weakness or fault. But i personally think that Zukos mommy is alive, maybe she just ran away, b/c she knew that bad things were about to happen... *gasp* wouldnt it be great if we were to encounter her later in the series?!?!?!?! 3nodding blaugh 3nodding blaugh 3nodding blaugh

To those who don't understand: What I'm trying to say is that I think Ursa went in Zuko's place for the sacrifice thingy....and that just made Zuko hate Ozai MORE! But your right about this being a complicated subject
