I love your artwork Ailena. I've only JUST started taking a hand at digital painting. I'm very impressed that you do it in photoshop instead of like Painter which more easily imitates painting/airbrush.
Do you use face refrences when you do your pictures? Because they are what I'm most impressed with. They always look different from one another but certainly spot on everything is in the right proportion and all that.

Thanks guys! Hey Nopen, I do use refs a little. More and more, I'm getting away from them, but still as I'm learning how to get more realistic, I do look at different faces mainly to reference contours and whatnot. In my lined art, I pretty much just go from the head because that style's more free and cartoony. When I draw, I tend to pose myself in the mirror to figure out what I want to do (I'm trying to do less boring, static poses now - I've always hated how my limited anatomy knowledge forces me to do static) and then while I'm looking at myself, doodle the circles and lines to make the body. And then as I'm painting, I sit down and try to correct proportions and whatnot.
I have Painter 8 and want to try it because I do love how it emulates real traditional painting, but am so used to Photoshop that it's kind of intimidating - I love my free transform tool (that is a lifesaver for proportioning problems!) and my history function and don't know how I can function without them. Do you use Painter?
When I do something that is unlined and all built up airbrushy or painterly like the one in my sig and well...the last one in my sig I use Painter. When I'm basically just "CG-ing" I tend to use Photoshop, just line art and color it in. Though now that I've got layers in Painter IX figured out I've been doing all of it more in Painter. It's just you have to break up the line art from the background in Photoshop since Painter recognizes .PSD files.
I think that while some people find it more difficult because it really does immulate traditional media and sometimes that can be unweildy it's a slight bit easier because while in Photoshop you can just "blur and smudge" in Painter there's a "Blur" tool with about a billion different blender types, including Blur and Smuge.
And the settings on the actual brushes is so fine. It really helps with blending in the first place you can just gradually build up color.
