Liang sighed quietly as she watched her older brother pull himself up onto a speed boat out in the middle of the lake. The area was fairly commercialized, nothing particularly grand about it, and the fact that he was so easily distracted by the prospect of a new sport or even just attention was starting to grate on her nerves. The girl blushed red and looked down at the sand when she realized she was being selfish. It was good that Brother Teagan was having fun, even if she had to wait here on the ground for him. Not that she would have liked to join him in the water, it was much too dirty what with all of the fish and the mud. For the outing the girl had donned a pale blue cheongsam with a few embroidered doves, and carried with her a matching fan. It might have seemed a bit dressy for a trip to the lake, but she actually considered it quite casual.

Deciding she had best find something to do, she got to her feet and wandered over to an empty picnic table, taking only a moment to clean off the dirt before she sat down. Earlier she had tucked her bag underneath, and despite her worries it was still there. Quietly she lifted it out, pulled out her calligraphy set, and pinned a large sheet of paper to the table's surface. As long as she was stuck here she might as well do something useful. Her strokes were long and well practiced, each one deliberate and smooth. Before long she was in her own little world, completely tuned out to everyone around her. This was her favorite way to spend her day, completely alone, but it also put her at a strong disadvantage should someone decide she wanted to talk. She was shy enough as it was, being startled was certainly far from her idea of fun. At first she was simply writing the things around her, birds, clouds, flowers, but eventually she started onto a deeper level, writing out the things she wanted to find in herself.

There was a slight chirping in the air as a few birds swooped here and there. Roule eyed them hungrily, considering if they were worthy of him to eat. Deciding not to bother, he leaned back onto the checker-patterned cloth, watching a figure on the lake on a boat. He was.. well, to put it, bored. Nev had stupidly left him alone for a few minutes, going to get something from the car.

The weasel optimistically hoped for food, but knew that his Ma would never be as place-minded as to actually remember something that mattered. She might come back with sun screen or his favourite visor. Maybe a drink if he was lucky. They were 'supposed' to have gone 'picnicking' but Nev had forgotten a few key ingredients: sandwichs, ranch dip and some sparkling soda. They had food, but it really wasn't edible.

Glancing around the surroundings, Roule knew he should've been content with the beauty of the lake and the dawdling forest, but really couldn't feel up to it. It was just a few trees for goodness sakes, nothing more! He didn't get all "nature is so beautiful" stuff that Nev exasperatedly attempted to explain to him.

Sighing, the little boy spotted a bright spot of red among the green. What could that be? Should he go and find out?

"Just a little bit over here..." Liang mumbled, drawing her brush across a line that seemed to have something wrong with it in her eyes. Satisfied with the small change, the reached into her bag for a cloth and carefully wiped off the brush. That was one color down, onto the next. Normally she only did words, but being here made her want to do something else. Lifting a bottle of light blue ink from her bag, she decided to go off the pattern on her fan. Everything she did was smoother, methodic, and exactly the way she liked things to be done. The girl was very much one for schedules, and there was nothing better for her schedule than a quiet task that took a long time.

She dipped the brush in lightly, wiping a bit off on the lip of the bottle so it wouldn't drip. "Easy..." She whispered to no one in particular, shivering her wings as she brought the tip of the brush down next to a character, starting to drag it back and forth across the page. As long as she didn't touch the black ink it would be fine. She just had to be careful and concentrate.

Deciding that the red spot was worth his time, Roule attempted to prowl towards the figure. He couldn't really make out much.. Red.. orange.. a bit of white and some bits of green. So colourful! The boy thought, attempting to be quiet. He wasn't really good at this, but sure whatever. Weasels just had to learn.

Closer now, he could make out.. some sort of .. uh.. thing? It was hunched over, with large.. shells? on its back, flaring orange and cream. Weird.. He hadn't really seen shells on anyone except for Laial, who had seemed rather good natured by it. His nose picked up strange scents.. He almost gagged. It smelled overwhelming.. Roule had never smelt anything like this before. It was so.. hmm, he didn't quite know the words.

The figure, he had determined, was hunched over the picnic table. Maybe it was sleeping? Hurrying closer, the boy scrambled to hide as a very unlucky rock was placed in his way, leaving no leeway for the boy to shy. He fell with a hard thump on the ground, elbows first, followed by knees and then the rest of his body.

At the crash, Liang let out a loud shriek, her feathers frizzing out as she slammed her wings back and down hard. Had her wings been smaller and lighter it wouldn't have really done anything, but with their sheer size and her light body the action slammed her up off the table and into the air. Her brush fell onto the black ink and the bottle of blue spilled all over the paper. Instinctively she kept beating her wings, and stayed a few feet off the ground as she watched her work be ruined.

Only after the ink had stopped rolling and started to bleed did she turn around to see what had made the noise, and when she found herself facing, or rather above, a furry toddler she pouted. Tears were welling up in her eyes, but she tried to hold them back for her own dignity, blushing red as she managed to ask, "Who are you?" The picture could be replaced, sure, but it wouldn't save her pride.

Roule watched in amazement, forgetting his minor injuries, as Liang took flight. He had never seen anyone fly before, though Nev had attempted to explain to him the whole "wings" thing. He hadn't gotten it.

The thing, as he called it now, was red and orange and white.. It reminded the weasel of something Nev had told him about "fire". Red and orange and yellow. Close enough right?
"Uehhh.. I .. uh.." Roule stuttered. He wasn't really ready for conversation just yet. Still staring, a strange scent caught the air that hadn't been the bird's perfume.
The ink was leaking off the picnic table now and dripping steadily onto the grass. Roule sniffed it, but only to be repulsed by the smell of chinese ink.

"Wuzzat?" He asked quizically, pointing at the ruined piece of paper, not aware of the girl's distress. He actually hadn't figured out she was well, a she, but whatever the thing was, it was pretty. Very very pretty.

"Well," She started, sighing a bit as she watched the ink dribble down, "It was a calligraphy piece. But I suppose now it's just a mess." Deciding it would be bad if the ink dripped onto her bag, she started to walk forward. But her feet didn't touch the ground? That was odd. She tried again, stepping but going nowhere. Liang scrunched her face up, her throat catching a bit as she looked down. She was... Flying? But she couldn't fly, she was horrible at it. She was going to crash!

Truthfully, she would have been just fine had she simply calmed herself down and kept beating her wings, but the memory of crashing was already in her mind. Letting out another screech, she beat her wings hard, sending her even higher. No, no, that was the wrong way! She was panicing a bit, trying her hardest to get back down to the ground. Tipping her wings as far back as she could, she started to fall backwards, clenching her eyes shut. This was bad, she was crashing again. She was a horrible flyer and she'd always be a horrible flyer. With a thump she landed on her back in the grass, still shivering with her eyes shut.

Moving back slightly, Roule looked a bit miffed. "Ca..lee.. phee?" He asked, so evidently confused that it would've been funny.

Moving closer to the shivering girl, Roule peered at her through burgundy eyes. He didn't get this either. She went so high! Now she just looked sad, and the boy really didn't know what to do. He hadn't met another person like Liang or even another bird. Looking at her sheepishly, he patted her awkwardly. Nev always did this to him when he was scared, and the thing was obviously.. well, scared. It looked scared.

"Umo.. I'm Roule.." he started, reddening slightly. Who was this thing anyways? But he was so sad that she was sad. Nodding, he tried again, "nnh what are you..? You can.. flai.."

Opening her eyes warily, Liang blushed crimson. It took her a moment, but eventually she managed to steady herself and sit up. This was embarassing. No, worse than embarassing, it was horrific. "I.. It's nice to meet you Roule, my name is Liang Nuying." She managed, though her voice was a bit squeaky. Her wings hurt, but it didn't feel like she'd broken anything.

At the flying comment, she shook her head, "I can't fly, I always crash. I'll always be bad at it." She showed a bit of a smile, hoping he wouldn't think she was strage for what she was. "I'm a Feng-Huang," she explained, "I was made in a place called D-Corp." It seemed she hadn't realized he might have been made there as well.

Roule smiled. What a weird name! It was so long. Besides, it sounded all weird. Kinda like what Nev speaks at home on the phone. But then again, she shouts when she uses it. The boy's always wondered what she could be so upset about. And it sounded a bit like another boy whom he met the other day's name.. Lian.. Liang.. Liang just sounded more drawn out.

The weasel shook his head. "Nuh uh! You flai.. You did.. flai!" He pointed up with a small finger. "High high in the sky! You good at it." He took a look at her wings. "Can you buy? Roule wants dem.. Want to flai, uweh."

Alot weird long word! This birdie was all about weird words and names. He found some of her names funny, but didn't remark on it. Someone had said his name was weird, and Roule remembered being very sad about it.

His ears perked. Dcorp? "Ne, I was made there too!" He said excitedly. Another person from d-corp! Wow! Grinning, he looked Liang up and down. She was taller than him.. older than him. Wait! "Do you have dragen??" The boy's eyes widened. Lian had said that he almos had a dragon.. Maybe so did Liang!

Could you... Buy wings? Liang blinked, "Well, no, you can't buy wings. You only get them if you're born with them I guess." She was still blushing, and she felt a bit bad that he seemed to think she was such a good flyer. There had been a lot better people at the class, she'd been one of the worst. Change of subject, change of subject was needed. Talking about her problems made her more than a little uncomfortable.

Perfect! Dragons, that was neutral ground. "No, I don't. Not yet at least. Mother says I'm going to go meet my egg soon though." She explained, nodding a bit more cheerfully. It was something she had never tried, raising a dragon, so there wasn't any possible way she could be bad at it. At least not yet.

Roule seemed a bit put out. Wings were so cool! He wanted some for himself. Flying looked like such fun... Liang was lucky.

"Uwehh really?" He hopped into ethuthiastic mode. Talk about dragons always amazed him, because Ma had told him he'll get one someday.. Hearing about them were almost as good as having one, he guessed. Maybe if he had one, what would it look like?

"Do know what it look like?" Asked Roule, his sentences fragmenting further the more he got excited. His face was alight. "Does it have six leggies like Lian's?? 'Cause he luuks like you na!" The boy seemed to have formed another personality from the pouty and miffed one a few seconds earlier.

The girl seemed a bit startled by the sudden onslaught of talking, and even more so by his sudden cheer. "Well, no, I don't know what it looks like, I've never seen it before." Six legs? That was weird, "It might, I don't know. Who's Lian?" Her voice squeaked up a few notches when she heard there was someone that looked like her. Maybe that meant she wasn't weird. She'd told Keanu she was the only one of her kind, but maybe she'd been wrong.

Her crest feathers raised up at the thought, standing straight up as she waited for his answer. The boy may have only been a toddler, he was a boy wasn't he, but he was smart. Any boy that was smart was worth listening to, even if they weren't very old.

Cocking his head, he asked, "Hey haven you gown to see your dragen? Lian sed he has.. He sed hes got 6 legs like a .. chinese.. dragen?"
Scrunching up his face in attempting to remember, the weasel looked her over. "Well.. no... not like YOU.. he has cloth kinda like you.. All.. pretty and knots." He couldn't really explain it too well. "He sed he a panta! ..Red.. panta?"

"But you have sem name na.. Very sem! Liang.. Lian!" He enjoyed names like their's. So fun to say! He could probably do it all day.. As having a name like that, he'd have to consider it. He wouldn't want other people to not pronounce his name well.. 'cause he sure couldn't pronounce theirs.

Liang talked so slowly! Well, not SLOWLY, but she emphasized each word. Very proper. Roule scratched his nose. She was very pretty though. The boy thought that the girl used too many big words because he din't really get alot of the things that she said. Oh well? He'll learn them!

Liang blinked, trying frantically to keep up with this chattering boy. He certainly had a lot to say. "No, I haven't seen my dragon. I'm going soon though," she chimed, hoping hers would be somthing nice instead of something like the fire breathing brutes she saw on the television all the time. She seemed a bit disappointed when he called the boy a 'red panta', knowing that she herself may have some red, but she wasn't a panta. But the boy he was talking about dressed like her, and had almost the same name, so they had that in common at least. Hopefully she would be able to meet this Lian boy sometime, and ask him about his Chinese dragon. "Panta, I don't think I've ever heard of an animal like that." She said cheerfully, glad to have someone to talk to that seemed to like learning, "Wait, do you mean panda? Like the black and white giant panda?" She didn't know that pandas came in other colors.
