Power lvling, as most of u know, is when a high lvl healer (whm, pld, etc.) heals a low lvl char or party while they fight monsters they ususally cant do by themselves. This lets them lvl at an acellerated rate. At first PL seems like a good idea. As I got to the higher lvls though i found a major flaw in this. When ppl get PLed they aren't doing what they are supposed to be doing. Tanks dont provoke, whm dont heal as often, and blm nuke like crazy with no regard to aggro sweatdrop . Of corse in PL partys its no big deal (since the PL is healing everyone and gets most of the aggro the pt is safe). Unfortuntly when they get to the higher lvls, they are STILL doing that scream . This causes party wipes and lots of flaming. Im also seeing a growing number of ppl saying "Will only party if you have PL". I mean its good to get PL once in awhile but it should not be a requirement to be in a pt. Because of this fact I have somtimes declined pt invites and even got into fights with pt members. All i want to know is what your opinion on this? I will admit i like being PL. But sometimes it can be too excessive (have bumped into 3 PLD's who dont know what provoke is and what it does eek crying ).

I've got a 50/50 on that one.
I'm fine with power leveling as long as it's only two people working together (one person fighting, one person healing). And, as long as both users know their jobs and have experienced using their jobs in parties without a PL. I've PLed before a couple times, but that was after I got to know my role in a party. In fact, most of my PLing experiences were meant for increasing weapon or defense skills.
However, I do not think a PL should be used during parties. I hate going to Valkurm and getting into a party with no WHM and the leader saying "someone get a PL." I just drop out right then. Of course, a PL isn't bad if your party is going up something that earns something useful, possibly an NM or during a quest or something. Then I'd say a PL is fine since it's not for the sake of leveling, but for having fun.

pling to a point is cool specially if its one on one with a friend...but would do pling AFTER the dunes, cause the dunes pretty much force you to learn you class's first steps...

For the months ive played FFXI, most PLing is in Dunes (not sure in the other severs but there are alot on lakshmi). While lvling my blm, i got into a few PLing pts (to be exact 3) and the only reason i joined them was because i knew all the ppl there and they knew what they are doing. Unfortunetly, out of all the invites i got, most had PLs and i had to decline them. I would say 80% of the invites had a PL.

i probably only get plvled to get out of the dunes and after that it is just a side kind of thing where if it happens then meh o well as long as the party is doing their job and if they aren't then whats the point of me exping in a non experienced party >.>, but sadly i have been away from a party that i have been inexperienced with MBing since i have been playing beastmaster for 51 levels crying

PLing is fine, in moderation and as long as the ppl have an idea of what the job requires to some degree.
For example; I'm WHM 55, BLM 34, and BLU 17. If my RDM went to Dunes tomorrow, I feel I can have him PL'ed god only knows how long and I'd be fine. I know the finer points of playing a mage, and I have had plenty of oppertunities to see RDMs in action. I know how they work, and what their purpose is at any given time.
However, my highest melee/DD is my THF 15, and I only got it that far for TH. When I start to level my WAR or NIN, I'm going to try and avoid PLers because I don't know what I'm doing.
I think PLers are okay, so long as you walk in with enough knowledge of how to do your job.
On the topic of ppl who can't do their job, however...I have a problem with anyone who CAN'T play WHM. Serriously...make the yellow/orange/red numbers white. If some gets hit with status, reverse it. Haste the Ninja. Divine Seal to taste. Done. A WHM how-to in less then a paragraph. rofl

Anyone can say what they wish about getting PLed, but any way you look at it, nobody really wants to turn down quick leveling. I havn't been power leveled in ages but thats okay because the parties I get now arent full of newbs or n00bs anymore. I love getting PLed, everyone loves leveling fast, no denying it. 3nodding

I also see that everyone picked the middle answer in the poll, I guarantee thats a lie! On 7/8 of the people who picked it.

I love getting PLed, everyone loves leveling fast, no denying it. 3nodding Of course, but there are also other methods of leveling fast instead of using a PL. Not only is there EXP gear, but there are also items that grant you a random amount of bonus EXP when used. Doing that little chocobo run from nation to nation will grant you that item, if you get there at a certain time. I'm not saying "omfg stop," but there are other ways of getting more EXP. And on an additional note, has anyone mentioned having a static LS party with some extra LS members as PLers? What are some of the opinions on that situation?

I get PL a lot, by my linkshell leader. (he doesnt PL me all the time now, because I'm doing fine ^^)He's in my pic in my sig. A lot of people think when people get PLed, they don't learn how to play on their own, get their own exp, ect. That's not all true, my linkshell leader taught me a lot about voking, not to voke and teaches me how to become a PLD (im planning to become one eventually) and I do stuff on my own, without being PLed.
Today this lvl 2whm/1blm asked if he can join my group. Of course my stats were /anon so I don't get bugged to be teleported to holla or dem. I assume he wanted to be part of my LS im in, but I then realize he wants to be in my party....major lvl gap >.>. 38whm/16rdm and a 2whm/1blm....{too be weak worthawhile} {no thanks} The kid was sooo desperate for a party and he complains he is sooo weak and slow, well thats because he's still a low lvl and that sad he needed to be PL at that lvl. >.>
Level 1-7 shouldn't be PLed in my opinon, but 7-10, its okay, because soloing gets really slow.

PL is good only for a low lvl party of expierenced players. n00bs Shouldent get PL because as the OP said they dont learn basic party mechanics. But if i find 1 of them i just laugh disband and keep lfp.
