Has anyone heard Moanin' by Charles Mingus? It's a really free song with mostly free solo notation in F minor. Well, anyway, while searching for a copy of the song, I found one called Moanin' Mambo. It starts off similarily to the original version, but then goes into a half-time feel, and then to a mambo eek . Well, anyway, I was just wondering if anyone else has heard this version, and if they like it/know who the bari player is.
But anyway, what are your opinions on Moanin' and really free jazz?

Free Jazz is still a bit beyond me, I'll admit that. I'm going to work around more common structure until I feel ready to seriously try Free Jazz.
Btw, I thought that was a bass sax. Timbre and range don't sound right for a baritone.

oh, it's a bari, trust me on that one. It just goes down to a low concert C (bari A). So it's like
D ~~~~~ A low A
(if that didnt make any sense, sry)
But have you heard moanin' mambo or the original?

I quite like Moanin' but i've never heard of Moanin' Mambo. I'm rather curious 3nodding

Yup it's a bari and i dont think i've heard Moanin Mambo unless it's the version that goes into St Thomas and then gores back to the original groove.

Moanin' Mambo sounds very fun! i love mambos that stick to minor keys because they're my specialty when it comes to improv. cool
