Me.. Hito. I recently asked my aunt if I could grow my own herb garden at our house, she said yes. I'm not really sure of any of the uses of herbs and I dont want to start until I know them ^-^ I actually want to do this too. I want to create my own miniature herb garden and keep it in my room. (believe me, theres enough sun in there in the day time) anyways, i would have done it months ago if i had the initiative, but im lazy ^^' My plan was to grow them, then dry them to use in cooking, and especially in teas. Maybe even make oils if i could figure out how to do it. but mainly i was planning to make my own teas. I wasn't sure what to use either. but my basic plan was to start out with simple stuff that i knew of, like mint, lavender, etc. then as i learned more through reading, experience, etc, i'd make the garden bigger and add stuff to it. there are lots of books you can get about herbs and their uses. you can use the internet too, but its not always as reliable.

I wanted to start a small herb garden too, until I remembered that I'm allergic to pollen and bees crying . One of the books I have has a guide to a basic herb garden, which includes- aargh, I can't find it in the book! Well, some important herbs are
Sage: purification, banishing, healing, consecration, feminine energy, and grounding. Cinnamon: stimulant, cleansing, banishing, healing, psychic awareness, prosperity
Lavender:peace, soothing nerves, meditation, clarity, concentration
Chamomile: sleep, prophetic dreams, eases pain
Nutmeg:psychic awareness, love, prophetic dreams
Rosemary: love, enhance memory, concentration, power, consecration, cleansing, grounding
Mint: stimulant or relaxing, concentration, cleansing, communication, prosperity
Ginger: energy, healing, success, calming for upset stomachs
Clove: purification, healing, prosperiity, power
Pepper (as in full peppercorn): banishing, stimulant, cleansing, healing, prosperity, sexual love
Vanilla: passion, self-love, joy
One day, when I have nothing better to do, I'll break out all my books and list the properties of every herb I can find in alphabetical order for you. I hope the meager amount I just posted are helpful!

You all have to hear this...so i read this post the other day, and last night, i decided, what the hell, might as well try it, so i had a glass of chamomile tea, for prophetic dreams. Guess what i dreamed! I dreamt that i made toast. I asume that it is a prophetic dream as i do plan to sometime in my life, make toast...thought that was hilarious!

There are a ton of books on herbs and what to do with them, the best I've found being by the wonderful Scott Cunningham. Personally, I'm a fan of herbs...not only are they used in some of the oldest forms of magick, but they smell delightful and are practical. Once the weather gets warmer, I'll be planting an herb garden for myself, but living in a temperate climate, it will be difficult to grow such things as the aforementioned Vanilla or Cinnamon or Ginger....

I actually have my own little garden I've been tending too recently since spring is such a great season(dispite some asthma). I currently grow many plants as well as some herbs. I grow, Lemon Balm, Sage, Roses, Peppermint, Orange Mint, Chocolate Mint(yes mint is my favorite plant), Nastrium(uhh spelt wrong), Catmint, Cat grass, Scarlet Runner Beans, Rosemary (keep it on my windowsil) as well as all the houstplants(which I have no idea have names), Chamomile, uhhh...and other's I fail to remember.... anyway I'm lucky to live in San Jose California, Everything is so warm here...^_^ I like pinching tips and leaving it on my altar, Gives a little bit of a nature feel to it.

Since I'm moving to the middle of nowere (A horse farm, I love my life) Mom says I can start my own garden. I will look up some stuff and see what I want to plant.
And as for the wicca for men thing, I think I will read. Way to many people concsentrat on only the goddess, wich is as imbalenced as christianity (not dissin' just sayin it like it is) I really need to get going on taking notes from my borrowed scott cunningham book, lol

I don't know when, but my Uncle (not wiccan/witch, btw) had recently bought a bunch of seeds at Wal-Mart, I believe, and one brand was actually selling different herbs with "medicinal" recommendations on the back. In other words, there was more "old world" uses for the herbs. I don't exactly remember which plants I was reading on the packets, but they had recommendations for using one as a healing poultice to reduce swelling, one for a sore throat medicine, etc. I wish I could remember the name of the brand that was selling the seeds with the plant use explanations, but it was remarkable.
I think that an herb garden is one of the most useful tools any wiccan or witch can have. Even if the herbs are not for magical use, most have great medicinal uses. Also, saving and preserving your own herbs is much better than buying ones pre-dried.
