Hippos cause many deaths in Africa every year.
They're violent and territorial.

@Lead Paint: I know. They're also enemies of crocodiles and the most dangerous animal in the African rivers. See? I can watch 'The Wild Thornberries' xD. They're also enemies of Mokele-Mbembe and are absent from places where he is known to be spotted.

Hippos do not eat garbage like racoons do. And hippos are more fun to ride than racoons.
