He was at his rope's end. He had to be, to be standing here in front of Marshall's duplex of all places and about to ask him for help, of all people. But anyone was better than attempting it on his own instincts. Knowing Gaius, he'd likely invite her to watch a taped Nascar race or something... Yeah, real romantic.
Fighting down the embarassment fluttering in his stomach, Gaius rapped on Marshall's door with his knuckles and waited, shifting from foot to foot and wondering if he hoped his friend was home... or if he hoped he wasn't.
"Can't believe I'm doing this," he muttered under his breath. Then he remembered the way Sophie smiled at him, and her laugh... His jaw clenched. Alright, he could do this... somehow.

Marshall was lying on his couch, watching "When Babysitters Go Mental: The Mini Series", and to be quite honest he looked like some sort of jelly-fish sprawled out over the couch. The thermostat was set down to as low as it would go, and yet he STILL thought it was too hot to do any thing. The curse of being an artic animal, I suppose.
He groaned as he heard a knock from the door. "Comin', comin'..." he groaned, getting to his feet and dragging himself to the door, stepping over the piles of doodles, DVDs, and books. He unlocked the door and opened it, greated with a good freind of his.
"'sup?" he said to Gaius, slightly half-asleep.

"Ah, h-hey Marshall..." Gaius looked far more nervous than usual, but managed a smile. "Er, hope I'm not interupting something?"
Taking a deep breath, Gaius summoned all his courage and blurted in one breath, "Marshall I need your help there's this girl I like and I wanna ask her out but I don't know how WHAT DO I DO?!" Gaius's eyes pleaded with Marshall. "I-I need help... badly. And you're my best friend, and the only one I can turn to..."

Marshall had a rather perplex look on his face, but could clearly see that Gaius was in a panic.
"BREATHE GAIUS! BREATHE!!!" Marshall said, putting his hands on Gaius' shoulders in an attempt to make him stop panicing. He wasn't sure why Gaius was coming to him of all people, arguably one of the dorkiest guys on the island, but still, he was kind of flattered.
"Got a grip? Okay, okay...So...We're talking about Sophie, right?"

"I'm okay, I'm okay." Gaius waved Marshall's concern away, edging into the guy's duplex. To the Sophie question, he nodded, a shy smile twitching his mouth. "Yeah... I have a lot of fun when I'm with her, and I think she might feel the same... I... I..." He blushed brightly, looking down at his feet. "Iwannaaskherout."

Marshall heard the last little jumbled sentence and couldn't help but ponder what he said.
About five seconds later, it finally clicked.
"...WELL, FINALLY!" Marshall said, "I mean, jeez louise, me and Oz have a bet going on whether or not you'd ever actually have the guts to do it! I knew you would!" Marshall said, positively beaming.
"So when ya gonna ask her?" he asked enthusiastically, closing the door behind the two of them.

"Wait, what? You guys were betting on me?" Gaius scowled at his penguin friend. "Gee, thanks for the bode of confidence! Just because I, er, prefer taking my time..." He folded his arms, in total denial of just how silly he was being.
"Uh... I dunno... What time do you think would be good to ask? I mean..." He scratched his head, shrugging. "What do you usually do on a date, anyways?"

"Uh...What do I usually do on a date? Um, you mean like...Me? Myself? I? That kind of I? Well...Um...I think, uh...Dinner and a Movie? Yeah, thats what I think you're supposed to do." Marshall said, realising that he had never actually been on a formal date. Yeah, he asked out Iona, but she had been sick for weeks and at the rate this was going he'd never get to date her!
"And, um...You ask her out...Um...I think as soon as you can."

Gaius squirmed, disliking the 'soon' part. 'Soon' meant less time to stall and prepare, less time to agonize over it all and call off the whole silly idea. "S-so... maybe in a day or two? H-how should I ask her, anyways? I mean, I've never done this! I want to do everything perfectly!" He gave Marshall a helpless look. "I really, really need some advice. Any tips or tricks or whatever you can throw at me! I'm desperate!"

WHAT THE HELL WOULD I KNOW?!?! I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT TO DO! HOW DO YOU ASK OUT A GIRL PERFECTLY?! DOES THAT EXIST!!! AHHH!!!
This is what Marshall thought. However, he realised that his freind needed help, so he dug deep into his brain, trying to remember EVERY romantic movie he had ever seen. He also pulled some from when he asked out Iona, even if it did seem long ago.
"Okay! First off! You want to wear the NICEST thing you own! But not too nice! Maybe a collared shirt and slacks!Yeah, thats the ticket!Make sure you're nice about it! And BE DIRECT! None of that wimpy 'Uh, um, eh' stuff you usually do!" he said, sounding like a drill sargent.

Gaius sat up straighter as if he were being drilled by a teacher, nodding at Marshall's directions, at least until the wimpy comment. "What?! Wimpy?" he protested. "I'm not wimpy! I'm just, er- I mean! I'm just shy!...ish."
"So... dress nice but not too nice... what do I actually say to ask her out?"

"Um...Well...Huh. Y'know, I'm not sure...It should be simple, I guess...And Direct. Like, 'Will you have dinner with me?' or 'Are you free tomorrow night?'...Y'know, some thing like that." Marshall said, sitting down in his "artist" chair, where he would usually make Sno Cone strips. Even if they were never going to be seen, it kept his mind off things. The heat espically.

"I dunno..." Gaius furrowed his brow. "That all seems kinda..." He waved his hand, trying to think of a word but failing. "...Meh. What about all those James Bond movies, where he makes a big impression on the girl and stuff? I don't want to be just simple Gaius asking her out, I want to be Gaius, Man of Action! Sweep her off her feet and the like!" A boyish grin beamed from his face, his imagination already running far ahead to the daring fights to save his lady friend. Well, couldn't say Gaius was unimaginative, even if he was unrealistic!

"Wow! And while we're at it, I'll grow two feet, meet Charles Schultz, AND learn to Tango!" Marshall said with a sarcastic grin, "Unless you have a stunt double, an English Accent, access to pyrotechnics, AND know how to ride a motorcycle? Then we got some thing. But until then...No. Besides, you want her to go out with Gaius the Loveable Oaf, or Gaius the fraud?" Marshall asked with a smile.

"I... Erf." Gaius winced, kicked in the teeth with the blunt truth. "Yeah, I guess that wasn't really a good idea... though a motorcycle would be cool... If I knew how to ride one..." He smiled shyly, rubbing the back of his neck in his usual sheepish manner. "I guess 'Gaius the Oaf' will have to do, huh?"
"So... dress nicely, ask directly... should I bring her anything? Like a gift of some sort? I heard girls like flowers..."
