What are hollow body electrics good for, other than country? I've tried out my sortof-friend's LP hollowbody knockoff and it doesn't sound that much different when distorted...so whats up with this?

hollowbodies are good for blues, man. if your playing todays hardcore, it doesent give a flip what guitar you use, there gunna sound relatively the same. but for blues...plug a gibby es335 into a dean markly tube driver...holy hell bro, your going to scream.

So....they're good for a lot of stuff, but they excell in country and blues. Got it.
