The History of Make Over! By Priestess1.
surprised Yes... It all started in 800-715 B.C. in Ancient Egypt. Whenever the queen of Egypt was in distress, the sevants would take the finest cosmetics and throw it over the queen's head, then the queen would feel relaxed and beautiful... This whole new make over trend began to spread out all over Egypt. Soon, every woman in Egypt that went into distress would have their husbands, servants, or anyone near by throw cosmetics over her head and she felt relax and beautiful... It soon became popular with the men! (I would like to note that throwing cosmetics over a person's head was how the make over got it's name. In ancient Egypt, the make over was called Dage jage goola which means make up over her head technique, which as you can see was soon shortened to the name we know today. The name for make over in Egypt is now called Dage gage.) Soon, the Egyptians began to add more things to this new technique, such as jewelry to make them feel more beautiful, teddy bears to feel cute, and computers and ipods to feel young, new, and smart! This traditional technique, however, died out in 85-45 B.C. It was rediscovered in 800-945 A.C. when a roman explorer set foot on Egypt, he became very curious to know when he saw two little girls throw cosmetics over a girl's head, someone explained to him it was a very old tradition in Egypt that helped people become relaxed and feel beautiful, but it was rarely seen now. The explorer tried it himself and loved it, he then brought this idea back home. It became very popular in Italy and very popular again in Egypt. The Romans came up with other ideas for this fantastic thing, such as put red grapes on the lips to make them look like a fine red and grinded rocks and smeared them on their eyelids as an ancient roman way of creating eyeshadow. This new makeover way then spread out across Europe in the 13th century. The make over was once again improved in the 14th century by the French. They discovered that not only can the put make up, but do the hair, nails, and pick out shoes and dresses. It is sad to say though, that the popularity of make over died out for the men and so make overs are now dominated by women to this day. I must say that I find this quite ironic, the original ancient make over is still very effective and more satisfy than the make over most of us use today! And that is the history of the make over! =D
