Are you literate?
  No.

It's just the internet, so why does it matter how you type?
I mean, you received an education--but why practice it?

Really, now. I'm just curious. Are you what Gaia define's as 'literate'?

I'm what the Literate Roleplaying Guild describes as "Advanced." It doesn't matter what I type or where I type it. Unless I'm roleplaying a character that types chatspeak, I don't type it(and I would never play a character like that).

I type in full sentences on Guild Wars. No one else does. I know what all the terms mean. I just don't use them. And even though I could likely slaughter many of the other people in that game, I'm still considered a "n00b" for it.

And I don't care. I will not type in chatspeak. Never.

I've never seen what this LRP Guild describes as "Advanced", but I'm pretty sure I'd be there.

Regardless, I've no problem with people speaking chat speak, since it's really their preference.

For a joke, I'll occasionally say things like "1337" or "j00 70741 n00b", but I certainly don't make a practice of such activities.

That makes exactly NO sense Sormani. You're called a noob for speaking in complete sentences. Right, I fail to see the "logic" in that.

We've an education, and some of us prefer to act as if we've received said education. I'm not going to bother fighting the "man" on the typing front. That'd just be stupid.

Yeah, I went there.

I type in full sentences on Guild Wars. No one else does except for Sane.

There we go.
That's better.

I wish my Guild Wars would work, but dial-up sucks.

*laughs* Ah Sormani...memories of your literate-ness. xd

I'm trying to be a writer...so naturally I have good spelling, grammar, and punctuation. 3nodding If I see a typo in a post of mine, I fix it.

I really dislike when people write "wut r u doin" and crap like that. gonk Or when they don't use punctuation...it's hard to read.

Like I saw in someone's sig once (I may be off on a few words):

"lets go eat grandpa

Let's go eat, grandpa.

Punctuation. It saves lives."

So...I use it. 3nodding

That is GREAT! Chatspeak doesn't bother me, but when you are typing things just to look cool lYk DyS or something, I find it useless. In fact it takes me alot longer to type LyK dYs then to type something natural. Language Barriers are confusing at it is, why do we need to confuse people more?

Well, when you think about it, confusing stupid people that think that they're smarter than you is rather fun.

Trust me when I say that I don't hold grudges against entire populations of people unless I have a very good reason. There's always been a reason why I hate illiterates. And it's not just because a few of them ticked me off. It's because six or seven hundred ticked me off. But then again, when you consider the vast number of illiterates in the chatterbox and Barton Town, that could be considered a few... Still, I lost an account to illiterates. No matter how many of them I added to my ignore list, they still flooded my inbox. I'm sure that they were just waiting for me to reply and say something that they could construe as "breaking the rules" after which they would report me...

Or maybe I just think that because that's exactly what I'd do...

Yes. Literacy makes the world go round (correctly, anyway). I like my punctuation and grammar. I may slip a few times but if I see it I correct myself. If I don't know the better grammar I blame the lame-a** american education system. I don't think I'm that bad, though.

I may joke or mock l33tspeak or chatspeak but truly I never like to use it seriously. Who can take it seriously? There is only one think I hate more than chatspeak.

Apparently people on Gaia take that type of talk seriously. I was dared to make a topic about the Olsen twins and how I liked them (I used to, when they were in Full House) and I decided to put the post in chatspeak. People took it seriously. I had a good laugh. Also, people seemed to agree with me that they were awesome. I laughed more.

Anyway, I want to be an author so I try to at least have some resemblance of good grammar.
