Well, she was back to the savannah grass. Overall, the wild dog was most happy about this. It was nice to not be around trees constantly, and there was a better chance of finding food here as well. Chenza was full for the moment, having killed earlier in the day, and now she was at a watering hole relaxing. She was clean now, she was full, and she had nice shade for herself. What a wonderful situation! It was probably for the best that Chenza didn't know about Murphy's Law.

The adult Pridelander male had been practising hunting yet again and had finally managed - much to his surprise - to kill a rather fat rat. It was with this kill that he was returning prouldy to the den, head held high, eyes shining and full of achievement. He was like a cub, eager to prove himself to his mate that he could support them if he tried.
Though obviously a rat would not suffice.
Either way it was one step closer to becoming a better hunter and now Amari's spirits were flying high.
As he passed by the water hole he had met Na-Be previously he drew in a deep breath through his nose and caught the scent of something quite strange. Giving a low whuff sound Amari turned his head this way and that, hsi eyes finally settling upon a very strange creature indeed. What were they called again? Uhh....Wild somethings.

Chenza didn't even notice the big lion until she heard the low whuff sound on the air. Big lions! Here? Oh, she had always assumed that there were big lions around, but she had never actually been in an area long enough to see one. And now one was right by her. She shuddered as she flattened herself against the ground, her eyes on the water. The wild dog's location was most obvious with all of her shaking and shivering, but she hoped he was one of those silly creatures who assumed that if she couldn't see him, he couldn't see her. There wasn't really anywhere to run to, so she had to be hidden or polite. Chenza had a high preference for hidden.

Amari tried to speak before remembering that the rat was still in his mouth and with a careless action dropped the limp rodent to the ground before trying again.
"What ya'll trembling for?" He tipped his head to the side and laughed quietly, thinking back to how he had been in the past. During his juvenile stage he would have loved to have bullied creatures like this but now...perhaps the Prideland environment had changed him for the better.
"Hey come on now, I've already wasted enough energy on hunting today, definately don't wanna do more."

Chenza winced. So she had been seen. She tried to remember to bark like Kia told her, but she could barely speak out of her fear. At least he said he wasn't hunting?
"I'm tre-embling 'cause I-I'm s-scared of b-big l-lions," she said. "I-I must b-be three s-sevenths your size. B-but if y-you say your n-not after me, I-I'll talk. M-my name's Chenza."

Amari smiled and lowered himself into a crouching position so that he wouldn't seem so large. If he could be kind to this creature than it would prove to himself that he was ready for all the responsibility he had taken on.
"There'll be a lot of big lions around here yah know. This is the Pridelands, it's owned by lions. Though don't worry, we tend not to hunt your kind. Compared to other lions we're the least likely to cause pain." He was proud to be a part of that, part of a family that was led with kindness and equality.
"Yah can call me Amari."

"A p-pleasure to meet you, Amari," Chenza said, her quivering slowing down for the moment. After all, the big lion had given her his name, and he had made himself smaller somehow. Smaller lions weren't so bad. "It's owned by lions? I didn't know creatures could own any particular stretch of land. I just thought that packs chose a land to live on and hunted on it. But I'm normally a bit of a wanderer, so I wouldn't know."
"Where are the big lions most likely to cause pain?" she asked. "I certainly don't want to go where they are in my wanderings."

"Likewise I'm sure." He listened to her with a gentle smile curving his maw, his posture lazy and casual. He nodded slowly at her words and gave a lazy flick of his ears to rid them of the buzzing of flies. "Well the Prides roam territory that they gain over time, other animals are quiet free to pass through but one can never know how a feline might react if they bump into one of them. Some lions are very territorial but here we're more laid back."
He pondered a moment, "as far as the mean lions are concerned, stay away from the desert, the Firekin dwell there. To be honest though, I don't know much about Prides since I spent my life on free lands."

"Don't go to the desert," Chenza said. "Got it! Though it would be silly to wander there in the first place, with the lack of grass to feed the food, as it were," she yawned and stretched a bit. "So I guess I shouldn't be as scared of the lions around here. I've seen some little lions around here, and they were all nice. Being scared of big lions is just...how I've been since I was little. I have no idea why; come to think of it, big lions really haven't done anything to me."

"Like with all animals there are good and bad. There are some big lions who might want to hurt yah but I doubt there'd be many. Yah can usually tell who those might be, so if yah ever come across a mean one be sure to run as fast as yah can. I expect yah can run faster than most of us with those long legs of yours."
He grinned.
"It's much nicer here then in some stupid desert, don't know how anyone can live out there in the middle of nowhere." He shook his shaggy mane and prodded gently at the rat that lay by his forepaws.
"So I take it you don't have a set home? Yah prefer to travel?"

"Oh yes, I've been able to run faster than any big lion I've seen," Chenza said, her chest puffing up with a sense of pride. She was really good at running away!
"Well, lately I've been returning to one watering hole and helping out the small pack that lives there, but I never stay in one place for very long. I like exploring places and meeting new creatures...as long as they're nice, and the land isn't the icky desert."

He laughed, sides trembling from the effort, then finally when the sound died away he paused to speak, "you remind me of myself as a youngster, travelling, wandering, no set place to call home. I miss those days sometimes." He breathed deeply.
"Strange how love can change a person. Very strange indeed."
He blinked his hazel eyes and looked down to his large paws, dusty and worn from so much travelling. "Never thought I'd find a kindred spirit in a creature that isn't a lion."

"Really?" Chenza asked, taking a closer look at the lion. "I suppose being settled down can have its advantages too. Having a place to call home isn't really a bad thing. And you can always inspire other lions to go exploring and share stories of places with you. I think that is what I want to do someday with my own kind."
The wild dog grinned. "To be fair, this is the first time I've ever spent more than ten seconds near a big lion like you."

"Having a home is the most wonderful feeling in the world. I spent my life searching for a place I could truly belong not knowing that it lay beneath my nose that whole time! I hope one day you can find a place that you can find restful, everyone - even a rogue - needs one of those." He smiled kindly at the wild dog, wondering why he had never taken the time to speak with her kind before. They were not so different really.
He chuckled. "Big friendly giant, eh?" He shook his mane and continued to laugh, his hazel eyes sparkling. There was nothing threatening about Amari - not anymore.
The fights he had once taken a part in were long forgotten and in his mind was only love, love for Maawio, love for his son and love for his new home and the friends that lived within it.
