Is the lighting on the DS really that bad? I've read in another topic concerning the DS that it's badly lit... And that the DS Lite would be a better choice.
Now I'm usually pretty frugal with my money, so I don't like to spend extra for something that isn't worth it. So I ask you:
Is it really worth buying the DS Lite over the DS? There's a bundle pack of a blue DS and Animal Crossing for $130. Is it really worth it to buy the Lite for $130 and then buy Animal Crossing on top of it?

I'm going to go with that blue bundle you mentioned with the original DS. I don't mind it being a little larger than the Lite. I mean, I used to stuff the original GameBoy into my pockets back before I got my GameBoy Color, and DS is nowhere near as big and fat as the original GameBoy. xd

I have the DS, and I don't see the lighting as bad, at all. I heard someone else complaining about it, but to me, it's perfectly fine. I sometimes play it in the dark, and everything shows up nice and clear, so I really don't know what she was complaining about. sweatdrop I say, if you don't want to pay too much and get the fanciest most expensive thing there is then go with the DS. It works for me. <333

The old DS is fine in the dark - it's just in bright sunlight everything dissapears. -_-;
The decision is up to you - personally I'd go find a demo unit of each, play them for awhile, and decide which you like better. Or if you know someone who has one play theirs and then find the other in a demo.
I personally like the look/feel of the light much better than the old one.

I used to hate my DS until I started playing Pokemon Gold again.
I now love it.

[.Phyrexian.] I used to hate my DS until I started playing Pokemon Gold again.
I now love it. But Pokemon Gold doesn't fit in the DS! Or do you have one of those blank cartridge things that you write the rom to? If so maybe you can tell me where I can get one of those. I'm currently attempting to hack Pokemon Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald and I'd like to try them on a Game Boy Advance unit to see if the link would still work.

I have a DS, but I would really love the Lite.
I'm such a klutz with the power button, always turning off my game unintentionally. And the brighter screen is nice if you play during the day. But I have a pink ds... and I'm such a dork that I'm holding out for Japan to release a pink lite. sweatdrop And to spend all that money again.... arrrgh.

I have the DS and I have no problems with seeing the screen. I don't have a lite so I'm not sure if the size is worth the extra cost. From my experience I'd say just go with the DS with animal crossing bundle pack to save money if you plan on getting animal crossing anyways.

The only thing that I don't like about it is when you're outside and it's sunny, no matter if the light is on or off, I get a glare, and I can't see the screen.

The DS isn't bad until you put it up against a Lite. I personally have played both and I prefer and own a Lite. The look and feel are so much nicer and cleaner than the DS. The screens on the Lite are much clearer and brighter than the DS. I also like some of the stuff they changed, like the position of the stylus. It is on the side near the power switch instead of on the top behind the top screen. The only downside is the outside plastic shows fingerprints and smudges. But other than that I would recommend spending a little more money and getting a Lite.
