The beach. Gabby knew that place almost as well as her own house. The beach was a place for adventures, for sandcastles and if you believed mommy also for swimming. Swimming, yuck, although she wasn’t as hesitant to water as she used to be, it would never become her favourite sport. Her wings were in the way; they were heavy and pulling her down into the depths of the water. Birds weren’t made to swim; they were made to fly high above the water and observe everything happening around them. But alas, mommy thought different and so she had bought Gabby a pretty pink swimsuit and taken her out to the beach near their house.

It was a warm day, not a bad day to go swimming at all. The cool water would be able to give some refreshment and so Asryane had taken her own swimming gear as well, consisting of a simple black swimsuit and some underwater goggles. “Gabby Gabs, get in the water now, come on darling!” She called out as her gaze went over the beach. She loved the fact that not many people knew about this place. It kind of felt as their private beach. Now the only problem was Gabby’s disliking to swimming. She was nine, almost ten now; she had to learn how to swim. All children were supposed to learn how to swim, even bird children. Yes.

Meanwhile the girl dressed in pink shook her head and giggled to her mom, waving her arms up above her head. “Nono! I’ll come in in a bit. You can’t make me come in now!” She was having too much fun in the sand anyway. She wanted to try to build yet another sand castle, just like the ones she and Sah had build earlier! The sea had probably eaten those, yep the sea did those things and that was exactly why she didn’t want to go in! Sticking her tongue out at mama, Gabby contently continued to mess with the sand.

Silenias had curled up near the edge of the water. He didn’t feel much for going in himself either but of course Gabby had insisted on him coming with them. Water and swimming weren't for him and thankfully Gabby didn’t seem to like it either and so he wouldn’t have to fear that she’d make him go in. The dancing had already been worse enough. The heath of the day was bothering him a little, being a silver dragon he more preferred cold places, but it wasn’t worth going into that salty water. No it wasn't. Definitely not.

The beach! Laial himself knew that was one place he would have to take Heiko eventually. Leviathan, right? They were supposed to be water-dwellers, but Maji still hadn’t gotten a pool for the poor dragon (and Laial) a pool yet! He knew she was heartless! Still, it gave him an excuse to sneak out of the house and go somewhere. Today happened to be the beach. Hopefully, no weird giant birds with sticks would attack him today…

Heiko was ‘walking’ along, looking somewhat like a pink seal-snake crossbreed. Flippers stretched out, hop, stretch, hop, stretch, hop. This pattern continued at a slower pace until shi saw the ocean. WATER! FINALLY! With an excited purr, Heiko almost doubled the speed at which shi was ‘walking’, slithering when shi reached deeper sand. “BREEEEEE!!!” was exclaimed along with a splash as the happy dragon belly-flopped into the water, sending a wave over any poor thing close to hir…or near the shore.

Laial ran after Heiko, his blue and white goggles bouncing around his neck. Stopping when he saw the green, black, and silver blobs already at the beach. Great. They’d probably call him to the police or something! Think, Laial, think! Wait…he could act like they were supposed to be here! He walked closer slowly, trying to see what/who they were, and at the same time retracting his tentecles into his shell. Oh, he wasn’t ashamed of his tentecles; he just thought all at once might weird them out if they were normal.

The beach was empty, peaceful and quiet. There was no one around to disturb his moment; Gabby was having fun on a save distance, Asryane was swimming in the cool water and he, he was relaxing near the edge of the water. Going to the beach hadn’t been such a bad idea after all. His opinion on that would change drastically in only a few minutes. A loud squeal, an enormous splash and Silenias felt the cold but refreshing water sweeping over him. What had that been? It couldn’t have been Gabby. She wouldn’t voluntarily jump in that water. Ugh, it wasn’t the cold that was bothering him (he had to admit that that felt kind of good), he liked cold places, no, it was the salty taste of the water! Lifting his head up Sil faced the other creature curiously, blinking when he recognised another dragon in the other one. “Rrrer?” Another dragon, that wasn’t so bad. Should he flop into the water like the other dragon had done or should he stay on the shore? "Merr.."

“Oh Silly, you weirdo!” The girl called from the other side of the beach as she burst out laughing, “You go in with him and make some more friends!” She wanted to turn her attention back to her castle when her eye suddenly fell on the boy. Was he with the dragon? Completely forgetting about her castle she jumped on her feet and sprinted over to the other child, waving him over. New people, new friends! She had to go greet him right away! “Is that your dragon with Sil? He likes to swim doesn’t he? Sil doesn’t really, just like me, but maybe we can make him!” She finally stopped running now she was standing near the boy and she smiled widely. What kind of creature would he be and what was the thing on his back? It looked like a shell, you know, those you could find and collect on the beach, but his one was much, much huger and probably heavy too! “Oh..” Her eyes darted to the white and blue goggles around his neck. “Nice ones! Mine are pink!” She grinned and pointed towards the goggles in the sand, next to her half-finished sandcastle.

Sil had been watching Gabby all the time. The other one was just a kid and wouldn’t be a danger to Gabby, now he could finally turn his attention to the interesting one. The colourful one. Silenias let out one of his friendly grunts and flopped one of his paws into the water. There, he had touched it, the water. No one could say different now.

Asryane was still in the water, enjoying the coolness of the wavevs around her. It seemed as if her daughter had made yet another new friend. Maybe he would be able to make her swim. She gave the boy a small wave and began to swim back to the shore with long strokes.

Heiko’s head poked out of the water. Oops. Maybe the pretty shiny dragon didn’t want to be splashed. “Mrrrrr…” shi hummed apologetically. But still, how could one not want to be in the water? It was too hot not to! Unless the other dragon liked heat? Even then, today was far too hot for anyone to like! Hir head dipped below as shi swam around, lifting it when shi saw Sil ‘step’ in. Yay! The other dragon was joining in! Maybe he hadn’t minded after all! With a version of a grin, shi lightly fanned hir wing-flippers to splash Sil with.

Laial stared at the girl, trying to get her into focus. Pink and green, with green things on her back. Weird…wonder what they were? Blink blink. Not shells, nothing had two shells and was green. So that meant…bird. Calm down calm down, she doesn’t seem like she’s going to eat you… “Uhh…yeah, Heiko likes to swim…” he muttered, trying to process all she had said. “Yeah, they’re blue…you have pink ones?!” Pink was good! Everything that was pink was good. There was a pattern; no one that had pink tried to hurt him. “Lucky! Maji won’t let me get pink anything…” She kept talking about how he shouldn’t like pink; how boys weren’t supposed to like pink. Of course, he didn’t believe her. “You like pink?”

Fine, okay, he would try, trying was okay, trying was the least you could do. He would try to go into the water and as long as he just kept his mouth closed he wouldn’t get to taste the salt water. Just at that moment he felt another refreshing splash of water! Oh, that other dragon liked splashing, didn’t it? Then, suddenly Sil dove forwards and disappeared completley under water as if the ocean had swallowed him. It remained silent for a couple of seconds until two wings broke through the water surface, sending a huge wave over to the other sea dragon.

“No pink?!” Gabby’s eyes widened as she let that thought sink in. Why would that Maji person he was talking about do that? “She really won’t? Oh puu, when’s your birthday? Then I will get you something pink!” She nodded and giggled at his question; of course she liked pink! She adored that colour! It was so.. so.. so pink and.. well pink! “I love pink, although that’s probably not too hard to tell ‘cause of my highlights and the pink bathing suit!” Had she just found a friend who had the same love for pink as she did? Oh, that would be wonderful! She beamed at the boy before walking around him and poking his shell. “Wow! It’s just like the other shells, but much thicker!”
