Meepfur's Velvet Diary. Only she should be posting in here, please.
~~~~~~~ April 6th- What a wonderful show of skills and diversity you've shown Toby! But the trials are not over yet.
Late Dec- Your special little knight in training has a rough road of trials ahead. Help him learn and grow, so he'll be ready, should the day come when he needs to use said skills.
June 9th- Oh dear... I think we might be seeing some family sparks soon. x.x Your happy little pup has a dark secret hiding beneath his protective nature, let's hope he can learn to keep it under check, or that others learn not to mess with those he loves. ^ ^;
April 15- Honor, loyalty, and just a little bit of goofiness. It's been said forever that a dog is mans best friend, so how could you go wrong with two dogs in one? biggrin -------------------------------------------------------
Name: Tobler Gender: Male Size: 13 inches tall Born: April 15th Personality: Loyal, affectionate, and incredibly protective of his mother. Status: Social: Dutiful Energy: Two dimensional (Calm and collected/energetic and puppyish) Ability: Protective, Combat Mental: Strategical knight smarts
For if the dog be well remembered, if sometimes he leaps through your dreams actual as in life, eyes kindling, questing, asking, laughing, begging, it matters not at all where that dog sleeps at long and at last. On a hill where the wind is unrebuked and the trees are roaring, or beside a stream he knew in puppyhood, or somewhere in the flatness of a pasture land, where most exhilarating cattle graze. It is all one to the dog, and all one to you, and nothing is gained, and nothing lost -- if memory lives. But there is one best place to bury a dog. One place that is best of all. If you bury him in this spot, the secret of which you must already have, he will come to you when you call -- come to you over the grim, dim frontiers of death, and down the well-remembered path, and to your side again. And though you call a dozen living dogs to heel they should not growl at him, nor resent his coming, for he is yours and he belongs there. People may scoff at you, who see no lightest blade of grass bent by his footfall, who hear no whimper pitched too fine for mere audition, people who may never really have had a dog. Smile at them then, for you shall know something that is hidden from them, and which is well worth the knowing. The one best place to bury a good dog is in the heart of his master.
[Dane + Lab Info] (from akc.org and ukcdogs.com)
 The Great Dane is a very large, short-coated dog with smooth, well-defined musculature. The body is square, but bitches may be somewhat longer in body than dogs. The length of the front leg (measured from point of elbow to the ground) is approximately equal to one-half of the dog's height at the withers. The head is long, rectangular, and finely chiseled. Ears are medium in size, high set, and may be drop or cropped. The tail is a natural extension of the spine, thick at the base and tapering to a point. The Great Dane combines great size with dignity and elegance, giving rise to its nickname, the Apollo of dogs.
The Great Dane combines, in its regal appearance, dignity, strength and elegance with great size and a powerful, well-formed, smoothly muscled body. It is one of the giant working breeds, but is unique in that its general conformation must be so well balanced that it never appears clumsy, and shall move with a long reach and powerful drive. It is always a unit-the Apollo of dogs. A Great Dane must be spirited, courageous, never timid; always friendly and dependable. This physical and mental combination is the characteristic which gives the Great Dane the majesty possessed by no other breed.
Great Danes are easygoing dogs, affectionate with family members and self-confident with strangers. The Great Dane has a stable, easy going nature, preferring to lounge on the couch near a loved one to almost any other pastime. Great Danes are easily trained but need consistency.
 The Labrador Retriever is a strongly built, medium-sized, short-coupled, dog possessing a sound, athletic, well-balanced conformation that enables it to function as a retrieving gun dog; the substance and soundness to hunt waterfowl or upland game for long hours under difficult conditions; the character and quality to win in the show ring; and the temperament to be a family companion. Physical features and mental characteristics should denote a dog bred to perform as an efficient Retriever of game with a stable temperament suitable for a variety of pursuits beyond the hunting environment.
The most distinguishing characteristics of the Labrador Retriever are its short, dense, weather resistant coat; an "otter" tail; a clean-cut head with broad back skull and moderate stop; powerful jaws; and its "kind," friendly eyes, expressing character, intelligence and good temperament. True Labrador Retriever temperament is as much a hallmark of the breed as the "otter" tail. The ideal disposition is one of a kindly, outgoing, tractable nature; eager to please and non-aggressive towards man or animal. The Labrador has much that appeals to people; his gentle ways, intelligence and adaptability make him an ideal dog.
Above all, a Labrador Retriever must be well balanced, enabling it to move in the show ring or work in the field with little or no effort. The typical Labrador possesses style and quality without over refinement, and substance without lumber or cloddiness. The Labrador is bred primarily as a working gun dog; structure and soundness are of great importance.
[Opinions] (On other Velvets!) Sidney: Sid' the first Velvet Toby ever met, meetings when he was a plush excluded. He gets on famously with the snake, despite the misadventure with the chocolate bar from the vending machine. Willow: The first time Toby met her, she gave him marshmallows! Food'll put just about anyone high on his list. And she's a girl, which doesn't hurt. He's really not sure about her ghost friends, though...probably a bit too much Quest for Glory. sweatdrop Carl: A plush the first time Toby met him, Carl's a kid now! And a rough-houser, too, which Toby loves. He's needed someone to tumble around with. Ziggy:Pippit:
About Meep/Iden
Name: Hillary Ann Iden ("Meep") Race: Human Vampire Gender: Female Age: 20 Height: 5'2" Weight: 130 lbs.
About: Until very recently, Iden was an (almost) normal college student, studying mediaeval history, but thanks to a strange visitor and a resurrected vampire-prince, things have definitely...changed. Now, no longer human nor college student, she's struggling for some sort of way to balance and hold on to herself. Hopelessly tangled up in and with the one who turned her world upside-down, there isn't much she can do but try to keep on going.
She's something of a magnet for animals, but fortunately the feeling's mutual, and as a result she's attracted or just plain collected a fair number of all sorts of critters, some strange and some relatively normal. Since most of them insist on hanging around, or at least dropping by on a regular basis, it's turned things into a sort of chaotic menagerie; a good part of what prompted her recent move from an apartment in Scotland to a house in Gaia.
Somewhere along the line, Iden came into possession of a certain item that allows her, to a limited extent, to travel between worlds, and to take anyone or anything she happens to be touching at the time with her. So far as anyone knows, it only works to get from Earth to Gaia and vice versa, and maybe to hop from one place to another within them, provided it's somewhere she's already been. And only if there's a door at both ends. Judging by occasional comments Hyksos makes, Iden's strange little upside-down ankh may have something to do with the errais, but neither of them bother to elaborate.
Iden, loudly stubborn and quick to argue, often isn't as tough or confident as she tries to make herself seem. She definitely has he fair share of flaws, and chief among them is some pretty serious emotional instability, which has a lot to do with how she got into the mess she's in in the first place; once he'd figured her out, it became a fairly simple thing for Vlad to exploit. Though she tends to shy away from most people, she can be heavily dependent on some.
[Home] For his plush-hood and the first month of his life, Toby lived in an apartment with Iden and Vlad and Tori, and a good number of assorted creatures as well. Now, though, they've relocated to a nice little house in Gaia, albeit one with a dead garden. With much more room for them all, things are a lot more comfortable than they were before. There's still an ungodly assembly of weird critters, but now at least there's space for them all. [some kind of picture(s) soon?]
[Possessions] A surprising gift from Vlad, Toby has a collar made of blue-green beads and silver coins. Likely meant to be a bracelet, for the canine Velvet it makes a good necklace. Clothing-wise, Toby's favorite items are a red cloak he got for Christmas, and a special hat Iden made for him for Halloween. It's blue, made to look like the hat Graham wears in the King's Quest series, and has a red feather stuck in the right side. [ The Hat]
April 15
I've had such a weird night, I don't know where to start or quite what to say. But anyway, I've now got myself a stuffed animal that's apparently going to come alive and grow, as crazy as that sounds. It's not really, though, and I'm not. The..the unicorn/kid (I didn't get his name) that gave me a key to this chest, that had the plush in it, he started out the same way.
I've had other strange surprises before this, some of them better than others. I'm hoping this'll be one of the better ones. I think it will be, it feels that way. Though that might just be because I want it to. Eh, I'm overthinking this way too much, so enough.
So now I'm going to have something else hanging around the house, it looks like. A dog, a cute little thing that looks a bit like a chocolate lab. I hope everything works out alright with this, I really do. The unicorn he amde verything sound so..wonderful. It never once occurred to me to disbelieve, to say no, to leave. Could I have? Should I have? I have to wonder what growing up around here could do to a kid, or a..a plush, I guess. I'm a little worried about it. But, well, it's done, and there's no backing out now.
Well, turns out that stuffed animal wasn't my ONLY surprise of the night. The pard egg I've been watching for months now finally hatched, pretty much right after I got home and I'd finished my last entry. I certainly wasn't expecting that, not in the very early morning hours, and not right after coming home with my first surprise of the night. The egg was about the LAST thing on my mind at the time.
But anyway, looks like this plush of mine already has a new sister, and before he's really even...born? Alive? Is coming out of that chest like being born for these things? Whatever, no big deal. I hope they get along, though I think it'd be hard not to get along with Turmali. She's very quiet, very subdued. Not the sort to really inspire dislike. Indifference at worst, I think. Still, I hope they get on alright, regardless of being a cat and a dog. I'd really hate it to end up having to deal with sibling rivalry or something.
She does seem rather interested in him, and sometimes she'll curl up with him to sleep. Hopefully she'll like him just as well when he changes..
April 19
He has a name now. I really felt like he should have one, even now. And it was strange anyway, talking about him and not having a name to call him by.
..alright, yeah, I was talking to him, too. Drac thinks I'm nuts for it, talking to a stuffed animal. I haven't said anything about how I got him, or what's going to happen. It's not like he needs to know, or even wants to. Just another toy, so far as he's concerned. I am kind of afraid, though, about what sort of influence he might be. For all that he's a knight, and was a prince once, he's hardly anything out of a fairy tale. Maybe from one of the old, original ones..aren't those supposed to be pretty nasty or something? Ugh, either way, it worries me.
And I'm getting off-subject. The point is, he's got a name now, and it's Tobler. Toby for short. I was really stuck on what to call him, and well..I had a package of chocolate sitting out, and I, umm...well, I named him after it. Shortened Toblerone to Tobler, and there you have it.
Hey, at least it's better than Hershey, right?
April 23
Ohh, maybe I am crazy. I wonder, how aware IS Toby right now, anyway? Is he at all? Will he remember anything that happens to him and around him? Does it influence him, affect him in some way?
I guess it's better to be safe than sorry, and assume that he might be somehow aware. I mean, it's not like it can hurt, treating him like he is. But if I assumed he wasn't, and treated him like he wasn't, that could hurt, if it turns out he is aware. So maybe it's crazy to talk to him, or to keep him around all the time, but..just in case, y'know? I don't wanna be neglecting him or treating him wrong or something.
So it means he gets carried around all the time, and goes where I do, even just hidden away in my backpack. I take him to class, even. I hope he doesn't mind history, or at least not all of it. I'm not so cracked about Scottish history myself, or about the Roman Republic. They certainly come pretty damn close to putting me to sleep, some days. Mediaeval's almost always good, though. I love that class, I really do. Do my likes and dislikes have any effect on him, I wonder? Mediaeval history isn't all wonderful and rosy, of course, it's full of awful things just like any period in history, but it's definitely got a good share of romance and cool things to it, too. Knights and chivalry and honorable combat and all that, as terribly cliche as that sort of stuff is. Maybe not entirely accurate, or by any means the important part of the history, but...it makes for good stories, and I suppose that's important in its own way.
Meeting Lenta, Vetch, and Silver..Lenta Lenta steps into the Velveteen center, Vetch tucked under one arm, and a grin plastered all over her face. She hadn't visited since she opened the trunk and received her plushie, and it was about time she came back. She couldn't let Vetch grow up to be unsocial like she was, now could she? Settling herself in a chair near the doorway, she began preening Vetch, going over his fur and picking out any bits of fluff or dirt that she found, and immedietly (gah, sp? I never get this one right) flicking it away.
"Kailee has GOT to be more careful with you..." She mused, removing a bit of wax from Vetch's neck and wrinkling her nose. Meepfur Meep opened the door to the shop and peeked in before entering, Toby secure in the crook of her elbow. She'd decided it was high time she pay the shop another visit, leaving Vlad in the apartment to watch Toby's 'sister,' a recently-hatched baby pard. Hah, rock. She was almost sad she wasn't around to see how they got on by themselves. Almost. Lenta Lenta jumped visibly as she heard the door open, and slid back in her chair, ears flattening against the sides of her head as she peered at the other owner.
"H-hullo." She stuttered out in greeting, wrapping her hands around Vetch's stomach. The llama plushie didn't seem to mind - but then again, he WAS a plushie. Running her fingers through his fur, Lenta blinked owlishly, tail limp at her side. Silver_Flame118 *eagerly she watched these new people, soon bouncing up and down as she caught a familiar scent; it was that dog-lady!! maybe she would have food.. slowly slipping from her usual hiding places on the lower shelf closest to the door, she began to make her way around to Lenta's side, staring at her tail. Her own wagging hard, she slowly reached out a paw, her small, dull claws extended slightly, and began to paw at Lenta's tail, unable to help herself* Meepfur Meep was just as surprised to see the other owner as the other owner was to see her. She acquired a sort of deer-in-headlights look, swallowed hard and tugged at her collar and hugged Toby closer. "Umm..hi." She dredged up a small, shy smile, though it was accompanied by a faint blush. Lenta "I'm Le-" She began to say, then yelped, snatching her tail away from Silver and shooting her a glare before realizing who it was. "Oh! Oh my goodness." Now she was REALLY out of it. How was she going to get out of this one? A fellow owner on one side, and a fellow were-girl on the other. However, after a moment of quick thinking, Lenta scooped Silver up and deposited her on her lap, beside Vetch. Prodding the llama plush towards her little friend, she grinned, relaxing slightly. She looked up towards Meep, extending a hand for her to shake.
"Lenta. Nice to meet you. This is Vetch, and... umm.... Well, i'm not too sure." Blinking, Lenta shrugged. "I haven't heard her talk yet, but she's pretty nice." Silver_Flame118 *she blinked, rather shocked, falling over slightly as she was placed in Lenta's lap. What was goin on..? She looked to the llama plush beside her and sniffed warily at it, her head tilted slightly, before taking a moment to give Lenta a few good sniffs, her tail rigid in the air* Meepfur Meep watched the tail-snatching episode curiously, rather wondering what she'd gotten herself into with all of this. Nonetheless, she shook Lenta's offered hand. "Meep. Or Iden, doesn't really matter which.." She trailed off, peering at Silver for a moment before shrugging inwardly. Lenta Lenta glanced down at Silver and Vetch, a grin spreading across her face. Not exactly what she had in mind for Vetch's first meeting... But it would do quite nicely.
Vetch stood completely still - he had no choice, really. After all, he WAS a plushie. xd
As they shook hands, Lenta looked back up, nodding. "Nice to meet you. I... I just picked Vetch up a few days ago. How about you and yours?" She motioned towards the plushie in Meep's arms. Silver_Flame118 *after she had done enough sniffing about, she paused to itch at fleas, looking from one to the other curiously. Who were these people? friends i guess.. maybe they have food!! at the thought of food her tail began to wag hard, and she stared up at Lenta expectingly, licking her fangs hungerly, her tail thumping against her leg, her eyes becoming big and sad, pleading for food, much like a sad little puppy* Meepfur "Nice to meet you, too." At the question, Meep took a moment to count back in her head. "It's been, umm...nearly a week, I think, since Toby..arrived." That seemed a decent way of putting it. She idly scritched the dog plushie's head, as much for her own nervous benefit as for his, uh..whatever benefit the stuffed animal might get from a head-scritching. She soon returned to eyeing Silver, interest caught by her antics. Was she hungry? She was acting it. Meep blinked, wondering if she had any food still in her backpack. Lenta Lenta nodded, a pleasant smile replacing the slowly-fading grin on her face. However, one look down at Silver, and the grin took over again. She knew that tail-wag... But she didn't have any food. The grin changed to a frown, directed at herself, and she began searching her pockets. Maybe Mauli had left something in them... She was always borrowing Lenta's pants for this-and-that, prolly to wear until her own fixed themselves. Or something. Nope, pockets were empty. Sighing, Lenta shrugged at Silver, ruffling her ears fondly.
"Nothing here... Sorry..." She'd have to remember to bring her little friend something next time she stopped by. Silver_Flame118 *she soon grew bored, her attention span that of a dead goldfish, and began to sniff around the chair Lenta was sitting in. Looking down at the ground below, which, from her point of veiw, was a pretty good drop, she began to pace and wonder how to get down. Glancing back to them, she flicked her tail and hopped off, at the last moment digging her claws into Lenta's jeans and climbing down before making the very short drop of about an inch to the floor below. Again pausing to itch at the fleas, she looked up at Meepfur, nearly falling over backwards. Whoa. She was tall. Stretching some, she then began to circle Meepfur's legs, stroking against them lovingly, a soft, rough grinding noise heard. She was purring. * Meepfur With a light shrug, Meep plopped into a sit right there on the floor (careful not to plop right on Silver), setting Toby in her lap and shedding her backpack. She got right to checking all the pockets, unzipping this one and that one, rifling around in each one for something edible. Finally discovering a rather sorry-looking, yet brightly-colored box, she shook it until it surrended its last couple of miniature pies. She tended to keep them in there just in case one of her critters was riding around in the pack, which was why the box looked rather sad. It had been nibbled at by hungry pooka on more than one occasion. But the pies were safe from any sort of pooka-cooties, handily individually-wrapped. Peeling away the plastic, Meep triumphantly presented Silver with a little apple and blackcurrant pie. Lenta Lenta's grin reappeared, despite the fact that she now had a cluster of clawmarks on her legs. She was used to it; Simba (NOT the TLK one, he's a Nano. xD And I didn't name him, my friend did.) clambored around on her lap all the time, and she usually saw more of the claw-your-legs-to-pieces-while-trying-to-sit-down side of him at those times than the purr-happy-sleep-long-time side.
Anyways.
Lenta's tail beat happily against the legs of her chair, and her ears were perked ever-so-slightly. Aha! The other owner, Meep, had food! Silver wouldn't go hungry after all, and that made her relax even more. Meep was a complete stranger to Silver, and she still would shell out a few pies for the girl... That was nice. Lenta liked that.
A loud ring at Lenta's side made the dog-girl jump visibly once more, and one quick look at the digital screen had her up and stuttering a goodbye. "Mauli... Mauli's calling me, from the harbor... I've got to go, i'm so sorry!" Wincing, Lenta bent down and scooped Vetch up; the llama plush had fallen to the floor in her hasty stand. Flipping her phone open, Lenta answered it as she left the Center, and after a few minutes a loud shriek could be heard outside.
"YOU FOUND WHAT?!" Silver_Flame118 *curiously she sniffed at the pie, her tail curling around her leg and her ears laying back some. Was this a trick? It looked kinda weird.. Slowly and carefully she raised a claw and dipped it into the pie, quickly pulling it back and sniffing at it, watching Meepfur the entire time. After a few quick licks, she was soon satisfied that Meepfur would not attack, and that it was food. Tasty food. Free tasty food. Inching a bit closer she began to wolf down the pies, her tail wagging hard, sending small bits of pie everywhere as she tried to stuff her mouth as full of food at one time as she could. On more then one occation, because of this, she nearly choked, but she managed to force it down. Soon she was covered in pie, but she really didnt care at this point. it was FOOD. yay! * Meepfur Meep couldn't help but jump a bit at the ring of Lenta's phone, easily startled herself. Absently, she wondered who this 'Mauli' was, just out of simple curiosity. As Lenta left, she offered a small wave. "It was nice meeting you.." She grinned happily as Silver finished her inspection and devoured the pies, glad that she been able to come to the rescue, as it were. Going hungry was never fun. She gave a little giggle, too, at the pie-encrsuted Silver. "Looks like it's just us now, eh?" Silver_Flame118 *Once she was finished with her pie, she looked up at Meepfur, in her eyes an odd look, as though saying thank you. Taking then a few moments to lick herself clean, she yawned and stretched out, wondering back to the little bed she had made out of plushies, snuggling up beneith them and watching Meepfur sleepily. After a while she began to doze; after a meal like that, who wouldnt be tired? it too so much jus ta eat it all!! an it was yummy... With an odd grin on her face she began to sleep, for a moment the same pur as before heard, but it soon faded.* Meepfur Well then, or not. Probably about time to be getting home, anyhow. Better not to leave the pardling alone in the apartment with Vlad for too long..or better not to leave Vlad alone in the apartment with the pardling, she wasn't sure which was more appropriate. With a final smile at Silver, she stood and slung her backpack over her shoulder, tucking Toby under one arm before heading out the door.
