Although I haven't yet finished the game (really close to it, though), I must say I think this one takes the cake. It's the first game in a very long time that's had me at the edge of my seat, and completely thrown this way and that with all the plot twists/suprises. It definitely is on-par with Suikoden I & II as far as story goes. Man. I haven't been able to put it down since I started a month ago (right after I beat Suikoden IV).

So, what do you guys think? Am I full of crap? Or do you agree?

Note: I'd like to try and keep this thread free of spoilers, so those not yet finished with the game can enjoy it. But if you must put something in, please specify in LARGE letters, add a little blurb as to what part of which game it pertains to, then please put the Spoiler text in white, so those who want to read it can highlight it to see.

For example:
SPOILER!!!! (After 2nd Main Battle in Suikoden V)

OMG! ____ totally happened, and then ____ said ____ and wow!!

Easy enough, right?

With that, let the discussion begin!!

I'd say that there was no Luc in this one either. cry

But there are plenty of other pretty boys to keep me happy whee wink heart

But yes, I agree that it is very good, but I don't think that it's as good as SII.

i somewhat like SIII better but this one is ok it is just the map that confused me as it didn't show the lakes the mountains etc which made it hard to go around places the battle system was nice though as it return back as it once was before unlike the annoying battle system for 3 >.> when you use fire runes it hurts your own party members and such but even so this one isn't that bad at all and a lot of the scenes made me get into the story more. To bad some of the characters you see in the near beginning ends up having you get them near the end of the story which is a pain as i wanted to level with them a lot earlier! lol

I like S1 and S2.

Most likely the nostalgia makes my opinion biast. Though V was an Amazing game.

To put them in order... 2 > 1 > 5 > 3 > tactics > 4

The problems I found with 5 was that it takes way too long before you can start building your headquaters. It took me about 24 hours without a walkthrough and training. In Suikoden I or II it only takes about 2 or 3 hours.

Another problem with 5 is that all the characters are too hard to recruit. You have to do so many little quests for each character. When I played 1 after playing 5 I was recruiting characters everywhere, sure it's okay to have a quest for a few characters in the game, but theres way too many in 5.

I agree, but if you really think about it, Suikoden I + II were pretty short games, especially SI. That is actually one of my few problems with the two games.

I didn't think so, I didn't think there were too many quests. Though some quests are worth it since you get the character + some new items.

A small problem t I had with the game: In order to attach an effect rune to your weapon(Poison, Sleep, Sword of ____) you need to use one of your three rune slots. I wish it was the same as Suikoden 2 where you could just attach it at a blacksmith without wasting a rune slot.

Overall this is my second favorite Suikoden game with Suikoden II being very slightly better. In my opinion, it is like playing SII again but with slight differences.

5 goes second to 2 since 2 really caught me to the story.... nothing beats the bestfriends story.....

5 also caught my emotions but not as great as 2

I have to agree with you Chibicid. Suikoden II has always been my favorite, but Suikoden V now is. (Of course, Suikoden II is my second favorite.) It was the longest of the games, and it always kept me to go for more. Although I had some problems with it, I loved it.

The problems I had was that it went pretty slow in the beginning, so slow that my head hurt. The loading times were so long, but I guess that was because the graphics were so detailed. Another problem is that you have to trigger certian events in order to recruit certain characters later in the game or else you won't be able to get them at all. That was rather annoying sometimes. I don't really like the war battle system, but getting gold and items after the battles was pretty nice. No war battle system could EVER beat Suikoden II's.

I loved how the character portraits changed according to the character's emotion or position at that point of the story. I loved the skill system--it was much better than the one in the third game. Character development was superb. I also loved that the Prince had a lot more say in the game than in any other Suikoden, whereas the other Suikoden heros just didn't say much. The art was really beautiful, too. The standard combat system was pretty sweet with the use of different formations.

My favorite games now follow as:

V > II > IV > I > III

More of my likes and dislike about 5.

I liked the war battles more than the war battles in the rest, It was fun wondering "god... will I be able to get that unit out of there in time or are they just going to collide with the enemies unit on my left flank"

I didnt like the loading, and deffinatly not the fact that at some points the game actually lagged.
I didnt like the transition into random encounters.
I didnt like how I could kill every boss using the formation technique.
I didnt like how you couldnt change camera angle.
I liked the dragon horse race. (my favorite minigame ever).
I liked how often the headquaters changed.
I liked seeing lots of awesome new characters and lots of characters that impacted on the storyline (the main thing that Suikoden 4 lacked).
I absolutely LOVED the return of the world map, 3D style Suikoden I/II. heart

OMG... I'm proabably going to get lynched for saying this, but it has to come out.

Suikoden 5.... I love the storyline. I love the backstory with Georg and everything, and how you know stuff through the whole game... but you just don't know all of it. And then by progressing through the story you find out more... or you dont. [spoilers????] DID NOT SUCK AS MUCH AS THE FANS WANK ABOUT IT OMGWTFERTYUIOASDFGHJKL!!!!!!111one

Of course, if Suikoden were Final Fantasy (heaven forbid), it wouldn't really matter if Suikoden went from an RPG to a Dating Sims to an FPS, because it would still be Suikoden. The fans would still love it. But not for Suikoden. Most people hated it because, heaven forbid, Konami tried something new. You know, I've talked to people who've played S4, and they loved it. And they never played any Suikoden game before... which can say a lot by itself, really.

And... [Lynch Mode] If I had to choose to live with S5 or S4 for the rest of my life... I would... choose S4. I will not say why because... I don't want to get flamed.[/Lynch Mode]

So, I'll just jump on the band wagon and:

I > II > IV > III > V > R (T) (LOL I had to put SOMETHING at the end...)

Of course, if we were talking Absolutely Questionably Ghey Scenes then:

V >>>>>>>> IV >>>> T > II > I >> III

And there's my two cents.

My favorite at the moment is still S1, but that particular game has reserved a special place for me.

Although SV is not far behind. SV is my second favorite, and I love the story. I wish they could of done more here and there, but it was great none the less.

I'm one of the few people who like SIV, and Lazlo. I enjoyed the war system, and I like recruiting the characters. I thought some of them were a lot more fun then others.

So my ranking goes:
I > V > II > III = IV= Tactics

Interesting points. For starters, if I wanted, I could rip apart each of the games piece by piece, talking about the little flaws that bothered me. But I'm talking about the overall sense of the game. The feelings you get in the gut of your stomach as you play.

To me, III had less of this than the others, as did IV. I did enjoy both, though. I was awesome, it just lacked the development. II was great, but to put it at an absolute pinnacle without giving others a chance is dumb.

Suikoden V is the first game in a very, very long time that I've found near impossible to put down. I think about it all the time (lol) and will continue to do so until I finish it, because the story is that good. Granted, it is irritating that the story goes a little slow at some part, but that leads into it all.
I mean...the sheer fact that you play the game for 10-20 hours before you even start recruiting/lose everything you thought you were going to have is insane. Brilliant, though. Who saw that coming?
The game is full of plot-twists and eye-opening sequences that simply amaze me.

By no means am I belittling the others; I've loved each and every one of them. I've been quite pleased with the latest two installments (especially how rapidly they've appeared), and I'm looking forward to another. xd

I suppose I should put my rankings:
V > I > II > IV > III
(although they're very close. 3nodding )

I didnt get to finish Suikoden V! crying

I think it was because I played III then IV then Tactics for the first time in about a month and finished them all, then when I started playing V I got up to where you re-take sol-felena and then I got bored, so I didnt play it for like a month or two, and now my PS2 has shat itself.
