I remember my friend coming up to me and saying that he saw this really really "sad but cool" anime series that he said would suit me very well. So after a while of contemplation (and a decision not to hit him for indirectly calling me emtional and a guy who likes his romance stories), I decided to borrow it from him. This was the first time I had seen a genuinely romantic anime with great visuals. This series was called Saikano...
Okay to get off story mode for a while, Saikano is probably one of the best romance animes I have ever seen. The visuals were great, the story made me cry on the third episode (surprising really. It usually takes at least half a season), and even if the soundtrack is a tad bit lacking, it really was a touching peice. Unfortunately Ive only seen the first DVD due to fundage again.
Another thing my friend recently lent out to me (in case you can't tell, I'm sortah a free loader) was the manga versions of the series and, to tell the truth, I was surprised that it was just as good as the anime (most series that I see and read the manga, one usually ends up being better than the other. i.e Love HIna and Get Backers have a better manga than an anime series or how Dragonball Z was a great anime but crappy manga). The story was kept the same (except for a few details which added a more dramatical effect on the show), the art was still awesome, and it still made me cry on that same damn part (I blame you Chapter and Episode 3! crying ).
Overall I think SaikanoThe Last Love Song on this Little Planet is a great series and I recommend that everybody watch the anime and read the manga. Its awesomeness with a capital A-W-E-S-O-M-E (because awesomeness is a made up word)

Man.... I'm starting to feel like I watch too much anime. Most of the really great series that I see most people hear have never heard of....

Yeah. Still surprised nobody has seen this series. I personally think it is great and pushes the envolope of anime and manga (though I think the manga has more of an effect due to the fact that you are reading the actual love diary of the 2 main characters).

Understandable. Its just that lately my friends have been getting a lot of anime so I've been watching a lot lately. But yeah. Its worth the money. I suggest reading the manga then watching the show and doing a comparison.
