My least favorite thing about today's American society is that not only do they know nothing about their own language, but most of them don't even care. The most dreadful thing about this is that they don't even need to care; these days you can get anywhere you want in life knowing very little about the English language. Just look at our government, our journalists, our teachers, for chrissake!
Ridiculously, I have even lost several good friends in my life who dismissed me saying that I correct them too much, or that I care too much about the way they write or speak. Since when is it unkind to correct someone's use of language skills?
Worst of all, when I correct my friends' spelling and grammar, they ignore me or tell me it doesn't matter.
What ever happened to mankind's intelligence?

It went down the drain since the invention of a written language.

I think it's safe to say men created a concept far too complex for their own comprehension.

I've gotten yelled at more than once for correcting my stepfather. He's very stubborn person and gets pissed when people correct him. Once, riding back from an All District Band audition, he inquired, "So, did you play good?" I responded something to the effect of "No, the sight reading pieces don't have names." He was confused until I directly pointed out the correction of "good," at which time he damn near blew up in my face. Worst of all, he then proceeded to ask, again, "So, did you play good?"
So, yeah, I correct people often, and it's not always language-specific. I've noticed that those who don't just say "I don't care" often provide half-assed defenses for what they said, even if the reality is completely counter to what they claimed.
I don't think it's so much they don't care as they don't like being wrong. Who would, really? Society has just taken it to an extreme.

Reminds me of a cool story someone told me, see I live in Germany and the English that is teached here is absolute crap. So a friend of mine had an English teacher that came directly from England. The first thing she did was to burn all the books of her class on the schoolyard. Now that is what i call cool.
It is true most people do not like it being corrected, especially when its coming from a student.
Another thing is you cannot use proper German language, without other people thinking you just use it to make them feel less intelligent. Well if you cant speak proper German, you most likely are less intelligent.
Well, what can you expect from a youth that is probably inspired mostly from some ******** "jamba" ring tone commercials. This country is going down the drain.

SpazLink, I was wondering what the red text in your signature forms. I can't really tell, but it looks like a Biohazard symbol?
