Quote:
The following statement was issued June 21 by the Communist Party USA and Young Communist League in honor of Pride Month.

The month of June has been designated as Pride Month in celebration of the struggles and achievements of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people in the United States. This coming weekend marks the anniversary of the uprising that occurred at the Stonewall Inn on June 27, 1969, in New York City. The uprising, in response to bar raids and attacks by the police, was led by working-class gay and transgender people, many of whom were Black or Latino, and became a rallying point for LGBT people in the United States and around the world.

Every year since, LGBT people and their allies have been holding parades and rallies to highlight the discrimination that LGBT people face and to struggle forward for equality and liberation.

In 2006, we still have a long ways to go. This year marks the 25th year of the HIV/AIDS epidemic. Today, millions of people are still denied access to life-saving drugs and medical help because of profit-driven drug corporations. In our schools, the ultra-right and religious conservatives deny students access to scientifically accurate sex education while more young people are becoming infected with HIV every year.

In our schools, in our workplaces and in our streets, LGBT people are faced with discrimination, hatred and violence.

Last week Kevin Aviance, a famous gay performer, was attacked and beaten in what is considered a “gay friendly” area in NYC. In Moscow, 50 LGBT people were arrested for attempting to hold the city’s first-ever Gay Pride Parade. In Australia, the president overturned a law that would allow same-sex marriage and the conservative government now in power in Canada is also seeking to overturn its law that allows gay marriage.

Here at home, Bush and the ultra-right continue to push the anti-gay button in order to drum up support in the 2006 elections. Just as in 2004, Bush is using gay marriage as a rallying cry for his conservative base that has started to turn against him because of his disastrous handling of the Iraq war and domestic issues.

We at the Communist Party USA and the Young Communist League USA stand in solidarity with our LGBT brothers and sisters in the fight for full equality. We demand an end to the violence and discrimination against LGBT people in our schools, workplaces and communities. We will be marching, rallying and celebrating this weekend in Pride Parades across the country and invite all readers of the People’s Weekly World to join us in the struggle for LGBT equality.

I myself am marooned in Indiana and far from any city that would allow any pride marches or have a population of LGBT supporters and allies to warrant a separate march.

I felt the obligation to forward this small notice from the CPUSA, just to let you all know that there are those who will doggedly fight for the LGBT community and stand in total solidarity with it, and did so in the past even before others began trying to drum up support from the LGBT community.

If anybody has any questions from me I would gladly answer them, or perhaps a reply to the above? I would love any reply really lol.

Ok, I'll give you a little background.

The CPUSA was formed by many important American figures, many of which founded the NAACP and the ACLU.

The CPUSA is one of a few leftist organizations within America, some of which include the Socialist Party USA, and Revolutionary Workers of America, and The Democratic Socialist Party USA.

They are essence two bodies with one name. On the one hand they are a political party (just like the Democrats or Republicans), and on the other hand they are a group of core activists.

They can be found at nearly any protest (that is of a progressive nature) they were at the recent immigrant protests, they are at every peace protest, at every LGBT protest (that is usually protesting against those who are against gay marriage or for some other form of repression relating to the LGBTs' struggles), and at each and every civil rights protest and ceremony. In fact the CPUSA was seen as instrumental in the fight for civil rights (even if they arn't as excepted by main stream America); constantly providing free lawyers to defend blacks and latinos accused of crimes in the South (most famously the scottsboro boys- accused of raping two white women- it was found that the two women had tried the same thing before- however the black men were found guilty and sentenced to death and life (the men were given the two sentences almost haphazardly), however, through the efforts of the CPUSA they were all granted their freedom).

In essence the CPUSA has a few things which it stands for at its core.

Firstly, the party stands for the advancement and rights of the working class, all nationally and ethnically oppressed, and all those who's civil rights are being violated, or wherever human decency and dignity are being defiled.

Secondly, our party values can be summed up in this phrase "Some of the most important are social solidarity, equality, non-violence, economic justice, the abolition of exploitation, democracy, respect for difference, individual freedoms and liberties, sustainability, and internationalism."- Sam Webb National Committee Chair of the CPUSA

Thirdly, we stand for a world without war, without starvation, without, poverty, without illiteracy, and where medical care can be found whenever needed, where the young, disabled, and eldery are cared for and allowed to maintain their dignity, where there is no oppression- and we will do this through socialism, and in time communism. A society, whereby the means of production are owned and operated by a free association of all people, and the produce of that labor is ruled upon the maxim of "From each according to ability, to each according to need".
