Desert plodded back into the woods that had become his adoped home, though he hadn't been here for some time. He was more mature now, than when he had left, and he hoped that the others wouldn't be threatened by his more adult appearance. He sniffed the ground and let out a quiet protective growl, when he noticed scents among the pack of wolves he did not recognize. More wandering souls like himself....or something else?

River was wandering back from her thoughts. The crow was flying above her head but making it look discreet so that no one would realise.
The Alpha was still feeling low, she missed her son terribly and the pack seemed to always be off doing their own thing, she never saw anyone and life seemed lonely, ever so lonely.
Her turquoise eyes watched the ground disappear under her paws before the others scent hit her. She recognized it but it seemed changed somewhat, so when her eyes hit Desert, it was a surprise. A smile formed on her face and she looked rather motherly at him. "Desert!"

Desert's ears perked up, and he turned his head in the direction of the voice. It was River! With an excited yip, Desert bounded over to her, acting like a pup again.
"River!" he said. his tail wagging. "It's been so long! How are you, and everyone?"

She smiled, her tail beginning to wag to, it was nice to see an old friend about!
"Oh Desert I wish I knew! I havent seen many about in ages, not even when I had my pups..." She smiled a little not really realising that Desert probably didnt know anything about her children. He would never meet Chip either, her only son.

Desert looked a little taken aback. Some things had certainly changed while he was gone.
"You-you have puppies?" he asked in surprise, and with a touch of jealosy. He had kind of thought of River as a surrogate mother. But the presence of the puppies would help explain the scents of new wolves.
"How many, where are they?"

She smiled softly at him and nodded, "Three girls and one boy. The boy though has left, he was far too like Diego and it was dangerous for him. I met a black wolf called Stray who has taken him in, they have a wandering pack." She sighed, she missed Chip, he was the only one who ever seemed to want to be with her.
"The girls are around somewhere, Rune is mute though, she is a redish colour. The other two can talk though perfectly fine. Blue is a beautiful girl, very playful and things, I don't see my other daughter much but I think she is still around." She sat down a bit still feeling tired but she wouldn't show it infront of Desert.

"I'm happy for you River," Desert said, smiling at the new of her family. "Though I wish I could have met your son. Maybe I can become friends with your daughters at least. What is your third daughter's name?"
As he spoke, he glanced around the landscape and sniffed the air, seeing if he might notice any of her children lurking nearby. A realization struck him as he was sencing his surroundings, however.
"Have there been more additions to the pack, other than your children? There seem to more than four scents that I don't recognize...." he trailed off, looking around them.

Koenshan slunk after the scent of Desert's trail. He had failed the pack. Not only had he been unable to find any lone wolves to join them, but he had let himself be separated from the younger wolf. His only source of solace was discovering that Desert was most certainly headed for the pack's lands. At least the former scout would not have more deaths upon his strained conscience.
Where the scent of the new wolves entered the picture, Koenshan paused. He sniffed, curiously; wondering at the scent of River on the pups' residual scent as well as the similarities to their scents' & his alphas'. Kin? He pondered to himself, cautiously stepping forward. It can't be pups. River would not have sent us out if she knew she was with pups. At least he hoped she would not.
The alpha was speaking with Desert. Again Koenshan paused, this time within their view. He sat down in subservience, prepared to take whatever punishment he deserved for his failure. Although he could now hear them the former scout would not interrupt. It was not as if he had anything of import to report.

"Fice. Thats the last girl, she is a beautiful green colour. I do hope you meet Chip one day, I hope he visits, my only son..." She listened to what he said and shook her head. "From what I know we haven't any extra in our pack but then I went wandering myself to find Chip someone to look after him, I haven't seen Diego."
She sighed a little before she managed to catch another familiar scent and turned, "Koen?" She let a smile cross her maw, it was nice to see the pack bnack together even if she didn't know where Ren was.

When Desert heard River say "Koen," he turned and saw the greenish-blue with approaching. It had been a while since they had gotten separated, and the younger male, yet out a happy yip.
"How are you?! I'm glad to know you got back alright. I was worried that we wouldn't find each other again."

He nodded heavily. Seeing River's smile he wondered if it would be the same after she learned of his failure. Not that she could not figure it out on her own, seeing as he had returned alone.
He did not know what to think about what he had overhead about pups. That would explain the scents... but where was Diego anyway?
"I'm here." Koenshan responded, rather obviously to his alpha. Carefully he made his way closer. When he felt certain Desert could see his reaction he smirked. "And I was glad when I saw your trail lead here, rather than into danger."
It was amusing, yes. But once again the gravity of the multiple ways he had not succeeded draped about him like a mantle & gripped at his heart.

River just smiled, she was happy to see wolves she could call family. These two were the reason she stayed, yes that was right.
"Koen it is lovely to have you back, you as well Desert! I thought I was going to go mad unless I saw soemone soon!" She chuckled trying to hide the seriousness in her statement.

Sadness, worry & surprise filled Koenshan's widening eyes. "We did not succeed in our duty to bring others to join our pack..." The former scout paused, slumping away from his usually erect bearing. "Are you still glad to see me?"
Something was obviously bothering or had been bothering their alpha. Cubs, had he heard? But where was Diego? Prudence guided the green & blue male to bite his tongue on that question for now.

"Well I'm happy to be back. It was lonely on the road, and I'm tired of traveling for now. I feel like I haven't done much else with my life but travel. I hope I can stay put for at least a time...." The younger wolf flopped to the ground, in exhaustion, finally letting himself truely rest.
"Where are all the others? Cinder? Ren?"

River listened to Koen and sighed, saddening a little, "Koen of course I am glad to see you! I dont like you because you can bring wolves back but because you are you and you keep me company." She smiled a little again and turned to Desert.
"I wish I knew, I haven't seen Cinder, Ren, Diego, Rune or Fice in ages. I know blue is around somewhere because, well she doesn't seem to wander off, but the others, I dont have a clue where they are." She sighed once more, was this pack truely falling apart?
