Earlier I posted a thread about the Stone Cold crazy cover and it give me an idea. Why not post a thread to talk about various Queen covers. So, thats the purpose of this thread. Talk about covers you've heard and what you thought about them. I'll start.

I like the George Micheal cover of Somebody to Love, he performed it at the Freddie Mercury tribute ocncert. Its pretty damn good. George has a good voice and unlike others, his voice didn't subtract from the song, it wasn't as good as freddies but it was nice twist.

I like/don't like Elton Johns cover of The Show Must Go On. I don't like Eltons singing as much as Freddies. Freddies voice just fits the song better and its more convincing. Everytime I hear Freddie sing it I feel that he put his heart and sould into that song. The one thing I like about the ocver is the instrumentals are better. They turned it up a notch and I like it.

Breaking Benjamin made a good cover of Who Want To Live Forever. The lead singers voice is a little more metal like but it fits the song.

I can't stand Blind Guardians cover of Spread Your Wings. The singers vocie is really annoying.

So, there you have it. Go ahead and post your thoughts on covers, post anything you want about any cover. I'm sure you've heard some I haven't.

Being a person that has done cover-work on Queen songs, I don't feel right really saying what covers I don't like... it wouldn't be fair to say I don't like someone's version of a song when I performed the same thing. It's kind of a curtosey thing, per se...

I'm odd like that.

So, I'll refrain from posting what covers I don't like.

I do, however, like most covers on Killer Queen: A Tribute to Queen.

I would hit that.

Someone did a cover of Spread Your Wings? H'm. I suppose I should look into that.

My friend Sara was in love with the cover My Chemical Romance/The Used did of "Under Pressure", and I bought it on i-Tunes out of curiousity. It's...alright. Too much distortion, but it's not terrible. Nothing could kill that song worse than Ice, Ice Baby evil

I recently heard the Flaming Lips' cover of Bohemian Rhapsody. They did a fairly good job of it. The singer's voice amuses me.

That makes me so sick... I read the same thing, and I have to wonder, are they crazy? P!ATD is AWFUL! I'm sorry if anyone here is a fan, but how the heck do they think they can pull that off? Bo. Rhap. is a song that requires three good, strong, unique voices and people who can actually PLAY instruments WELL. They don't even have a lone half of a good voice. rolleyes

I went and saw a Tribute band in my area called Queen For a Day. They were pretty good. The singer was as close as Ive seen anyone get to Freddie. The noone can match Brian May, but they got pretty close! They have some recordings on their myspace site if anyone is interested. Ill post a link if any of you want to check it out.

On their recordings on their site, the backup vocals are horrible, but when I went and saw them the guy wasnt that bad.

They're even going to try and do the operatic part.

They're not refraining from the song like Queen did live, they're going right on through! :vain:

I'm sooo glad I'm not the only one who hates panic at the disco. The suck so bad I won't capitalize their name or grant them the exclamation point after "panic". They are the worst. Even their band name sounds fake. They are friggin flakes. When I see them on the television, I can't believe how someone could be that horrible at music and be on television. My music is waaaaaaaay better than that and you don't see me strutting around like an idiot on the television. Really my music sucks... but I can pretend. I don't see how they can have fans. Every time I hear their music it is the worst day of my life. It pisses me off when these groups try and act like they are cool, but they aren't. They should stop. I don't think they should even attempt the BR cover. Or any other covers... from any other band. I don't think they should try and bring the other bands down. Sorry... I don't know if you can tell but I'm not too big on these modern music styles...

Sorry the rant or if I offended anyone.

I just hate all this crap that's out there now. The only modern day musician that I can say I really respect is Mika. He has the right idea.

Grrrr.

That angers me beyond all reason. I want to meet these people to tell them how bad they are because I don't think they know. Uh oh, someone forgot to tell them. Someone has to tell them. It's not just that... they make me look bad. Because, as a real Queen fan I feel offended by this... I know it sounds silly... but aggggg... I don't know.
