They were very suddenly surrounded by crowds of chatting people and frigid, icy air. Kevin seemed as surprised as Rose by the transition. Zev was also surprised, but he hid it well. Almost immediately Djerod appeared from the crowd, only his skin and hat and long trench coat were all a shade of grey, and his face looked somehow different. Kevin spotted Djerod first and immediately said, "Dad!"

The smile that Djerod turned on them was totally familiar, even if he himself looked wholly different. Kevin gaped in a bad combination of surprise and recogniition. He struggled to say something to Djerod, but Rose beat him to it.

Djerod smiled down at her and then, in perhaps the most mystifying of all the day's events, said quite clearly, "Actually, it's Paul at this point. You and Kevin will be sitting here. Zev and I have to be going." Djerod/Paul gestured through the crowd towards a long stone table that seemed to stretch as far as the eye could see in both directions. There were two chairs, one which read "Kevin Peterson" and the other "Rose Lukas-Hein."

Before either Kevin or Rose could manage to ask anything, Djerod/Paul took Zev by the arm and pulled him two steps to the left. The world around Zev blurred and suddenly they were at a completely different place, leaving Kevin and Rose to take their seat. Djerod stepped again and now they were on the opposite side of the table. People were beginning to sit down. Zev saw the chair had his name on it, "Zevulon Talai Atreides-Piett." He yanked his arm away from Djerod and turned to glare at his supposed guardian, but Djerod was already gone.

Zev looked sullenly at the chair for several long moments. Finally he took his seat.
