I picked up a copy of this book in an antique shop, as well as a copy of Through The Looking Glass by Lewis Caroll *I actually have Alice in Wonderland & Through The looking Glass in a combined book already ^^ so one more!* and another Fairy Tale book that is old. But back to my point, i picked up Grimms Fairy Tales Hardcovor with stamps stamped into the covor for a $1.00. Best Dollar I have ever spent that day. I love the book and the morbid little fairy tales in them. How about you guys? What is your favorite story?

My dad used to tell me Rumplestiltskin and Rapunzle when I was little, so I always liked those stories. Rumplestiltskin was a fascinating story. A little man could spin straw into gold, and danced around a fire at night singing his name, and for some reason wanted the queen's baby. My favorite part was when the queen had learned his name, and acted like she didn't. I was little. It was impressive. razz
But the part about Rapunzle that I always liked to hear was the beginning, when the man stole from the witch's garden. I wondered at why he would take such a risk, even for his pregnant wife, and then we never got to hear from her parents again. It also seemed, to me, one of the few stories where the wicked witch has a caring side. She took the baby girl only to raise her as her own daughter? She went from being a witch to being an over protective (and ultimately jealous) mom.

When I was young, my mom used to read me the Emperor's Clothes. I loved it, even though I forgot why xp . Another story she read to me was about two ducks that found a big, fat, furry, snake, warned the other animals about it, and found it was really just a cat's tail. And of course, another one. This one was The Ugly Duckling, and it surprised me when he turned into a beautiful swan. It was very "magical" that it happened, but I was five at the time, so I pretty much believed everything.

I liked one story...I believe it was something about a girl and the Trinity...she lied to God and was cursed to silence...and then slowly her children vanished. She was the queen, so since the heirs were gone, she was almost burnt to death, but she spoke the truth and was freed.
One of the ones I didn't like when I was little was about God taking away two infants. When the mother asks why, he shows her one of them in the gallows for criminals and another crushed and mortifying in death under a wagon wheel. God asked her if it was not far better for him to take them now. The woman agreed, but I always had a problem with it.

A few months ago my friend picked up a copy of B&N's Grimm's Complete Fairy Tales for only $10. I had a gift card(I always tell people that if they give me a B&N giftcard, I'll love them for life xp ) and I love fairy tales. So I bought it, and it's been sitting on a shelf since. I finallly started skimming through it about a week ago, and came across the story "King Thrushbeard". It's my new favorite fairy tale heart .

I've a nice collection of "classic" morbid fairy tales in storage back home. Still waiting to being them over here to LA when I find a place.
My personal favorite (not sure if it's by the Grimm brothers or not) is the Twelve Dancing Princesses. I have liked it since childhood.

Oh, these are wonderfully classic. No matter how gruesome, I always asked my mom to read these instead of the 'disneyed up' versions where everyone holds hands, eats cotton candy and skips off into the sunset. sweatdrop No wonder I came out weird.
But my favorite was The Master Thief. When I was 12 I was very morbid about the intelligence of the human race because in Middle School everyone's a chowderhead. And it hit me, the Master-Thief was probably one of the cleverest men that I had ever read about.
Needless to say, he still sets my date standards for intelligence. 3nodding

My favorite has always been Jorinda and Joringel. I'm not sure why. I also love The Twelve Brothers and The Six Swans, though all of the stories are very enjoyable and I like them all very much.
