Hi everyone, (every shabbat theres a part we read from the bible and is called a parasha, so im giving a little talk about it)
Just something for everyone about "Parashat korach" and is got to do with the topic "Every day miracles".(but not entirely).
We know in our "Parasha" Israel are in the desert and G-d is watching over them, with much care. A. He has a cloud in morning to protect and guide them in the morning. B. He has a pillar of fire in the night. Israel dosent seem to understand there are great miracles around them, so G-d tries to show them his power is doing these miracles, and they arent a regular thing, or is magic done by Moses or Aharon, or anyone else.
In our "Parasha" Korach comes and argues with Moses about the Torah, and about the fact that Moses has taken rule over Israel, and taken a higher level for himself for his own good, because he wanted to. G-d angry at such a claim, commands the ground to swallow up Korach and his gang (group of fallowers).
Israel, ran away scared of being swallowed up as well, is watching G-d do miracles in front of their eyes. They watch, wait till everyone is calmed down, and go back to Moses angry and say he killed people from Israel with no justice.(Even Ezra explains this)
This is also seen at Mount Carmel with (Elijah the Prophet): Israel at the time belived in the Baal G-d, and so, Elija went and gathered Israel there and said: we both willl make (Elijah and Israel) altars and offer on them to the G-d each one belives in, but fire we will ask from the G-d we belive in, we will see whos G-d is true, and will bring down fire. They did so and Elijah cried to hashem (name for G-d) to bring fire... and he did. Israel saw this and went and killed all the Baal prophets, and belived in G-d (hashem). The next morning though, Jezebel the Queen, and Achav the King, were mad at Elijah again, and sent people after him. So Elijah ran away.
From this we see again how Israel sees such miracles, and goes back to their bad ways.
Even at the very time Elijah was thinking about that problem, it says in the talmud (gamara) that Elijah said: "ענני ה' ענני" it means: "hear me oh lo-rd hear me", Hear me 1: that fire will come from the sky. hear me 2: that the children of Israel wont think this was as mere as sorcery. We see how he was concerend that it wont look as if it wasent G-ds work, and we ask was his request (hear me 2) heard? answer 1: No, it was too much a request. answer 2: yes, it was heard, but the King and Queen of that time, and the people, didnt want to belive it, they liked it better worshiping the Baal.
With all that the Sages of Israel and G-d, try to show them it is all G-ds work. (as seen here) :
1. When Israel was fighting a war, in the desert, if Moses was to lift his hands up, Israel would win. When he lowered them they would start to lose, and why all this? so that Israel would look to the sky, to G-d, to their father in the heavens.
2.When there was a disease in Israel, G-d told Moses to make a big serpent made of gold, and every Isreli to look into his eyes, would live. (and again) why all this? so that the childred of Israel would look to the sky, to G-d, to their father in the heavens.
All this is for the sake that Israel will always see everything as the work of G-d and that what G-d does is always for the best.
so "yehi razon" smile (that it wil be wanted) : that we will see G-ds hand in everything, and belive his "hand" is always doing things for the best, even when we think it looks bad, as the Sages say: " A person should belss on the bad as well as he does on the good (but this dosent mean there are bad things, we only see them as bad.)
Enjoy! (or did you? lol ).
