Wait, what's going on? All I see in the article is this. Quote: California-based Gaia Online has taken $8.93 million in VC funding, reports Alarm:Clock - investors include Benchmark Capital and Redpoint Ventures. Gaia is a youth community inspired by manga and anime - it launched in 2003 and has more than 3.5 million registered users. The site began as a collection of anime links, and it claims to host the biggest web-based forum in the world (over 600 million posts). But Gaia is more than just a forum - it’s also a role-playing game. Users have their own customizable avatars and earn virtual money (”Gaia Gold”) for every action on the site. The currency can then be used to buy clothes and accessories for your avatar, or to play Flash-based games. Gaia Gold can’t be bought directly with real money, but users can make a donation to the site and receive a surprise gift in return. Gaia also includes a virtual world called “Gaia Towns” - a 3D chatroom that’s very similar to Habbo Hotel and Hive7. Gaia is a bizarre combination of ideas - part forum, part gaming site, part virtual world. Its success is probably down to its age, its niche focus and the addictive nature of virtual economies. That bodes well for Cyworld, which is due for imminent launch in the US. Am I missing something? That just sounds like a basic description to me. There's no news in there.

If a company bought it, there would be very drastic changes I mean, VERY drastic when someone else buys something they never keep it the same guilds could be shut down, forums could be removed, features added/removed etc

Yeah, that's what I started thinking after NiGHTS said they got bought. Thew new layout is probably an idea from the new management. That's why the moderators aren't reacting to all our complaints and stuff or changing it back.

I hate to lose contact with everyone here crying
Why don't we just give each other contacts like AIM/MSN/etc like NiGHTS did earlier? Therefore if Gaia were revamped and we had to start all over again, we can at least come in contact with each other again

I have my own server. I use it to host my website. My website also happens to have a forum with a gaming discussion section in it. Why don't you all come to there and crash for a while? The website URL is www.doghousecomics.com. My name on there is Cloud109, just like my old Gaia account. DDRFreek and IceKeyHunter also run the site with me, so they are pretty cool, too 3nodding

I think it's all an overreaction. Maybe the redesign is a result of this deal, bu sites never drastically change. I wouldn't worry.
EDIT: Besides, the company bought SHARES in Gaia. I could buy shares in a company if I want to, but I won't suddenly have power. I'm more surprised how much value Gaia has.
