-Officer-
General Major Captain Lieutenant
-Non-Officer-
Master Sergeant Sergeant Corporal Private
Gaia National Guard ranks are designed to provide a linear promotion progression, less confusion on what rank is what, and to be simple.
The General is in command of the entire GNG. This person directs the overall operation of the three forces and has the final word in all negotiations should they wish it.
There are 3 Majors, and they lead the three branches of the GNG. The Major of the ASDF is Tanasha, for example. The Major directs the overall operation of the branch they lead, and unless the General commands otherwise has free reign over their branch.
Captains are the department heads for each branch. There are Captains for each department within the branch, some examples of which might include Logistics, Security, and Medical. Gaian Navy Captains also hold this rank, as do some Squadron Leaders and Unit Commanders.
Lieutenants are the 2nds in Command, serving directly under the Captains. They make certain that the Captain's orders are carried out, as well as lead more localized groups within their department.
All the above ranks are addressed either by their full rank, or sir.
Master Sergeants are the highest ranking non-officer rank. They are usually assigned important duties, such as Quartermaster in the Logistics department. In large military formations, Master Sergeants can operate as group leaders if there are no Lieutenants to fill the role.
Sergeants are respected non-officer ranked soldiers that are most often known for being in charge of training new recruits, but they can hold many of the roles that Master Sergeants can.
Corporals are 'graduated' from the basic rank. This is one of the two 'backbone' ranks, and this one holds authority over the other.
Privates are the true backbone of the military. These are the recently graduated from military academy. Everyone has to start somewhere, and if you're in the military, this is that somewhere.

For referenceI'd suggest tossing in a "General of the Armies" rank and having the branch leaders be "General". Skipping from O-4 to O-10 is a little odd. ^^

This is the ranking scheme agreed upon in the 'Fixing up the GG' thread. It was intentionally designed to stray away from standard military conventions, for several reasons, one reason of which is that we do not want the RP to become too officer-heavy. The GNG on the whole does not have enough active RPers to even support this many officer slots, but this is the bare minimum for representing the feel of the military.
If it makes you feel more comfortable, the O-# scheme you're referring to does not apply to this, as it is an entirely different ranking scheme. If the O-# scheme exists for the GNG, then the numbers would be adjusted to account for there being only 4 officer ranks.

Tanasha's been called "Commander" since the dawn of time. While that's not her rank, it's what people call her. xd

Saoszuc ... Traditionally, at least in the ASDF, officers have been referred to as "sir", no matter what sex or gender they identify with. sweatdrop Doh, I remember that now...fixed. Sorry, been a while sweatdrop Tanasha Tanasha's been called "Commander" since the dawn of time. While that's not her rank, it's what people call her. xd Kinda like how ship captains are still called Captain despite the fact that they may have a much higher rank 3nodding Terms of endearment and respect type thing. xd

. . . so I guess the old rank I gained while Tippmann was in charge of the GA is gone eh?
So... what's my new rank anyways?
Or is it unchanged?

Since you're currently the only actual GA member still active, I'm not sure sweatdrop What rank did Tippmann give you? (Also, I wonder if I'll see Tippmann at AX again this year! whee )

Tippmann confer onto me the rank of Lieutenant General, which is [or is "was"] the second highest rank in the GA, subordinate only to a Captain General, Tippmann, as he is ["Was"?] the Chief of Staff of the Army.

So me new rank is a captain, eh?
Well... I guess that's okay as Head of Demolitions...
Er... Tanasha, are you going to remain in the GA as Head of Security... which would put your rank in the GA as a Captain as well, or are you going with the ASDF, at the rank of a Major, as the Chief Commanding Officer of the ASDF question

Does this mean that Tanasha will be in both the ASDF and the GA question
Won't that be a wee bit confusing question
You'll be a Major in the ASDF and Head of the Branch, yet, you'll also be a Captain in the GA as Head of Security...
Oh, will I get a promotion from this, I've been a Cadet all this time, yet that rank isn't even listed in the new ranking system...

Ah, staying with both then, okay then...
Oh, Misericordianeo, yes, I dare say it is time for you to move up the ranks.. to a Corporal at the very least since you've been with us long enough...
...er... for the GA, do we have to make a new sig or something, Cuz I really rather we keep the current design...
To see the current design, see Tanasha's sig.
