Setting:

The world is divided into five parts. Only one area remains untouched by war as, by unknown powers, elements are neutralized inside of its walls. Nanedin is home to those without control over an element and the children. The children spend their childhood and early teen years in the city, up til the time of their testing.

On their 17th birthday, a teen is sent to the large tower in the center of the city for testing. Here it is determined whether or not he/she has the potential for an element and, if so, which element. This process varies in lenght and can take anywhere from a week to a few months. After their element is determined, the teen travels to that element's main city to study for the next several years of their life.

After mastering his/her element, people have a variety of options open to them. They may stay in the city in a variety of jobs, or join the loose military and fight to gain territory for their element.

If one is deemed uncapable of elemental potential, he/she remains within Nanedin for the rest of his/her life. Many find this disappointing and struggle to cope with the facts.

Society:

Among the people of Capella-Delta P5, there are two broad ranks. The Colorless, and the Elementals. Every Elemental no matter how old or young, will rank a Colorless. While a few resent this, more understand the inate practicality.

Colorless:

Among the Colorless there exists a very fluid structure. Where most people are fairly equal in terms of strength and intelligence it is instead ranked by job, and the rarity of it. As with Elementals the job of a Colorless is shown by the color of it's sleeve.

Among the highest ranking colorless are the four Council Members (Elementals who chose to remain in Nanedin, and are effectively colorless), Childcare providers (due to their contact with impressionable possible elementals) and the doctors and midwifes.

Elementals: Elementals have a very rigid structure by contrast. Although the people constantly change, the entire system is based on someone's elemental strength. Although large differences are immediately obvious, when Elementals are of similar strength the respect gets chancy. There are four branches to the Elemental society, Military, Healing, Support, and Administration.

Military is often filled with the stronger elementals, those more likely to gain grown than loose it. Healing is just that. Often one of the smaller branches they may be attached to any one of the other branches for duties. Support groups the students, teachers, farmers, and other weaker elementals.

Admin is much like everywhere else. It is full of inept selfimportant fools for the most part who somehow manage to keep everything going and connected. While most often highly affiliated with the military, the Head of the entire group, along with all the elementals of that type is the strongest human elemental, and hence has authority over every other elemental of that type.
