Daniel tried not to yawn as he almost stalked into the main hall of the headquarters. The portal barely phased him any more; Bennu certainly didn't seem that fussed, giggling to himself over the treasure of feathers that he'd snatched from the air in the street outside. THe 'shifter looked down sandy-eyed at the burbling babe in his arms, and sighed.
"Don't you EVER sleep?" He said almost crossly, striding with long legs to put the phoenix child on the sofa, rolling up his sleeves from the heat. Of course he knew the answer; Bennu slept like the dead while the sun was down, but at sunrise, invariably, he'd be awake.
When you'd been running all night with the hunt a sunrise awakening was starting to become tiresome.
Bennu turned his odd flame coloured gaze suddenly toward Daniel, face curious. What was that angry look for? his expression almost screamed, looking almost hurt. Daniel was ataken back for a moment, even as he flopped to the sofa beside the babe.
"Now, don't go giving me -that- look," he remonstrated tiredly, taking his glasses off to clean them.

"Please, stop..." A soft moan drifted from down the entrance hall. She could feel the portal rippling at her heels still, but she paid it no mind. It was a strange feeling, but she had at least made it far enough inside that it wasn't going to toss her back onto the street. Kyo lifted her free hand to her temple and stepped out of the portal's reach, willing the migraine to die away.
Xerk had been bothering her all day and for a while, she'd ignored it. The baby ghost could send pictures to those whose minds were matured or accustom to the telekinesis, but he also had a nasty little attention-grabber of a signal. Now her head was throbbing from the after-effects of the mind tapping.
Said ghost was currently clinging to his wand, face-tentacles twitching every now and then. He was oblivious of the annoyance he was causing his guardian. Absorbed only with the world that had opened up around him, it seemed. And he wanted someone to share his discovery with.
Kyo sighed to herself as she entered the lobby, making a robotic bee-line for the couch only to find it taken up by a brown-haired baby. The woman jumped for a moment. Fire! This child seemed to be on fire! However, the man talking with him didn't seem to be worried, so she'd automatically pass it off as her abilities acting up due to the headache.
"Can't... really stay mad at them when they look at you that way." She noted absently, unconcerned with how bold the statement might have seemed. She was digging through the messenger bag at her hip for something or another. Meanwhile, Xerk swung his head towards the new set of mind-owners, tentacles wriggling almost excitedly as he leaned away from his wand towards them.

The lanky man replaced his glasses, blinking surprised pale eyes at the newcomer. And her armful of baby ghost. Interesting...
"No, you're right, you can't really." A touch of wry laughter was in his voice as he got to his feet courteously to offer her the seat. "Don't mind Bennu that much, he won't bite. I don't think." He tilted his head, a onesided smile tugging at his mouth.
"I'm afraid I haven't had the pleasure of meeting you or your charge yet?"
Bennu blinked, and the ethereal, flamecoloured wings that decorated his back flared for a moment before disappearing entirely, and he waved the feather curiously at the other. He hadn't met many souls yet since he had been freed, but all his baby mind could understand was that this was someone he had never met, ghost or not. And he was insatiably curious.

"Eh?" She seemed a bit out of it; not quite all there. Then, with a blink, she seemed to register that he'd gotten up. Huh. Alright, then. She moved for the spot slowly, shuffling until she sat on the end and left enough room for him to sit. She would have dejected the offer had she been in better health, but right now? The teacher wasn't so sure she wasn't going to pass out if she didn't sit.
"I'm Kyo," She offered, digging through her bag still. "And this is Xerksis." Her head turned towards Bennu, observing the flickering flames. "Hello, Bennu. It's fine if he does- I've had worse." Like a nibble-happy baby with teeth like a shark's.
Xerk seemed to reach for the feather, though his stubby little arms wouldn't get far. The ghost was already rather touchy-feely, though it wasn't solid enough to truly hold onto anything other than his wand.

Daniel put his hands in his pockets, content to stand for a while, even as he dipped his head politely in return. "Pleased to meet you, Miss Kyo, and Xerxis too. I'm Daniel, and I think you already picked up that the trouble sitting there is Bennu." He straightened up again, eyes swiftly passing over the woman. She didn't appear to be in the best of spirits, to be honest.
"Is it too hot out?" He asked solicitously, hands going further into his pockets, standing easily.
Said trouble turned over to all fours, feather still clenched in one chubby fist and wand carefully placed to the couch beside him so he could concentrate on the baby ghost. He blinked again, balancing on one hand to let the slightly crumpled feather drift towards Xerxis. He couldn't remember that it was difficult to hold such things, and he burbled slightly, feeling selfrighteous about being so generous as to allow the other his new treasure.
((D: Gonna have to pause. My friend thinks the reason my toe hurts so much is that I broke it. >.0 ))
