Hmm. I always imagined it would be more organized...
Like a chart!
With the vowel sounds and the consonant begginings...
What a disappointment. neutral

What a disappointment. neutral Though there is kana entry on the keyboards, most people (at least most that I know,) use romaji entry to spell out the words and then change them. The laptop I am using right now is a DELL that I got in Japan several years ago so it looks rather similar.

My used laptop has a Japanese keyboard and I really like the little changes such as the "@" key being accessible with only one key stroke. It seems just like common sense in these email centric days stare

Yeap, a Japanese keyboard...
Now if you want to see one that is really different, you should see a Korean one..

When the typewriter was first invented, the keys were in fact in alphabetical order, however they found that people had a very difficult time typing. Their fingers kept getting in the way of each other and they couldn't fast at all.
I'm not sure exactly how they measured this or any algorithm they used, but the layout of the keys, at least on English keyboards, is designed specifically to make typing easy, with fluid movements.
