What is it?

Iv heard some people give very liberal explanations that long as everything is consensual its allright. Ive also heard people say that anything other then vaginal intercourse is sexual misconduct. Which one is it?

Opinion?

From what I was told, mainly being addicted to sex or going around having sex with totally random people just for fun and pleasure, not love.

For laymen, I don't think the kind of sexual encounters matter so much... more the encounters themselves. What one doesn't want to do is become such a way that they are using people for sex. Likewise, if you are in a serious relationship, cheating on the person would be very harmful to those involved.
Effectively, anything that negatively affects ability to overcome attachments or otherwise damages relations with others.

I don't agree... You have to check your urges if you are to progress with you meditation. Sex is one of our strongest urges, so he/she is lucky who are able to normalize/minamalize their sexual appetite. I wish I had the will power to do so. =B

You know, I didn't even think of that.... but then it's so rare I encounter such feelings. sweatdrop
I suppose that would be tricky for many people, yes.

Don't listen to him, the Precepts aren't comandments anyway. They're promises to yourself as to what you aren't going to do to make you a better person so everyones views are okay for them, you must finnd your own.

So go jerk off if you think it's alright *snicker*

In the Tibetan Tradtion:
Sexual misconduct is defined by inproper time, inproper number of times, and inproper orifices.

Time: During the day.
Number: over 5.
Orifices: a**l or Oral.

Also homosexual acts are tradtionally frowned upon, but I see some leninancy.

Masturbation is okay if you are a layperson. If you are a monk, it is forbidden.

See Ive heard the same thing except the orfice thing. What I heard is anything other then p***s in the v****a is wrong. That means no oral, no a**l, no hands, no thighs, no nothing unless you put it in a a v****a.

Which is probably why I started this post. I tend to try to follow a fairly strict practice say everthing but becomeing an actualy monk. However, vaginal sex is a big no no for me personaly. So does that mean I'm stuck with celibacy?

I think it would be cheating, promiscious sex, casual sex, rape would be sexual misconduct.
If it causes harm to someone then its misconduct, but if its sex, gay or straight, out of love, its not misconduct because its not hurting the parties involved and can be seen by some as a positive deminsion to a relationship~

I agree with everything except the orifices. I've never heard that. Traditionally vaginal sex is the only way to have sex, but in this new day and age Buddhists are becomming much more liberal about the whole sexual thing. I don't think there IS a set rule anymore, unless you're a monk. AND we now know that masturbation is healthy. As long as your sexual lifestyle is healthy and not demeaning to yourself or others, you should be ok. 4laugh

The orifices thing is new to me, too - heck, the official Buddha-spoken description of sex has more orifices than that in it - it includes any body part inserted into any orifice on any person for the purpose of sexual gratification to the depth of more than a sesame seed. At least, that's the way the monk's code of discipline defines it. 3nodding

From what I've read, sexual misconduct is doing things like masturbating or watching/reading porn. And of course rape and things like that.
