Mar. 23/07Today I adopted another vase - her previous guardian disappeared, and I couldn't stop myself. Apr. 10/07Today she came out! Skye has emerged from her vase! June 19/07Growth! Skye's a child now! Random Trivia:- sugar gives her the hiccups. - ticklish only along the tops of her wings - loves having her cheek stroked - has an almost hypnotic effect on her - loves small, enclosed spaces (like her vase, or hiding inside loose folds of clothes such as robes) - loves soft textures - loves to dance (ballet)

From within the depths of the vase, something stirs. A whisper, inaudible above the puffs of wind as feathers fly out the top. A whirlwind of movement, blowing feathers in circles around the tiny form within the vase, silent. Whispers, snatches of sounds, make it inside and fall on unhearing ears.
Silence.
But life.
Is it the feathers that are moving? Or is there something more? Perhaps the body within? Or is that nothing more than the imagination of a hopeful?
Time alone will tell.

A form, an essence, an aura ... invisible to closed eyelids but visible in the mind. Someone approaches. Who is it? He? She? Why are they coming? What are they doing? A limb, raised, poised. Something at the tip. It's dropped. And suddenly ... it's there. Beside her. The feathers slow their whirling, searching for a new path around this new obstacle. Their flow wavers, they find a new path, they go on, faster, agitated. Sleeping? Or waking? She sees nothing, but many things. And this. The colours are not visible to her closed eyes, but the form - the shape, the feel, the expression - all are clear in her foggy mind. What is it? She doesn't know, but somehow she finds it comforting.

Another disturbance. Shortly after the first. This one is more active, there is more energy behind it. Vibrations. What are those? Another outstretched limb. Shorter than the first. Much shorter. And something else falls within the depths of the vase. The feathers flutter their distress, slow, speed up, move on. Again a colourless shape ... Interesting. Comforting. Apparently there is a world to be explored. Soon ...

Movement.
A mighty rushing wind - but not wind. Only disturbance. The feathers are excited - they move quickly - faster - faster -
She is outside.
Outside?
Yes. No longer within the confines - or comfort - of her vase. Such a large world ... she feels so small. She clutches her plushies close to her - one in each arm - both nearly as big as she herself is. One white, one blue.
Like her eyes.
She can't see her own eyes, but she knows this.
Sensations ... new sensations ... vibrations. On her back? Yes ... yes, that's what it is called. A back ... and these? What are these? Wings! Yes ... that is it ... as blue as her eyes and dress.
More vibrations.
Oh! That's the wind blowing the skirt ... that's movement.
A strange vibration - no, not a vibration. A presence. A presence? She turns and looks ...
Another vase. Tall. Thin.
Another second. Taller. Darker.
She smiles. She is not alone.

Too much excitement ... she's exhausted. A busy day ... a wonderful day. A sister ... an aunt ... two friends. Serenity ... Kali ...
She stirs slightly, her wings fluttering in her vase. The plushies shift, settle. She smiles. She feels their presence. Asleep, she knows they are there.
She can feel the other presence again ... one she knows, recognizes, desires, and embraces. That she misses when she can't feel it, that she longs for when it's gone. And yet ... she has yet to see it with her own eyes.
But for now, the comfort is enough.

Many days have passed, and Skye has had now many adventures. She is exhausted, lying in her vase, curled up in a ball, staring, just staring, at the blue lava lamp sitting on the glass table just above her vase. She loves watching the liquid rise, fall, form balls and mix with the rest ... it makes her feel calm, sleepy.

Her mind drifts, her thoughts rising and falling like the blue liquid inside the lamp. So much had happened. She had discovered that she had a natural talent for weaving. She liked weaving. Her crown of roses sits on the glass table next to the lava lamp, but all she can see are shadows.
She curls up into a comfortable ball and hugs her plushie griffin close.
There is someone she misses ... yes, she has had fun playing with Serenity and Celebor, and going places with Mommy ... and she has met someone new, a young elven human child named Himoko, but she isn't interested in Skye, she doesn't play with her, or make vibrations for her ... no, the person she misses is Lore. The tall elf who makes such wonderfully strong vibrations, who plays with her and makes all the vibrations Skye could ever ask for.
Perhaps tomorrow.

It is a dark night, a calm night. Skye is curled up within the comfort of her vase. And yet ... for some reason ... she is not comforted. She cannot sleep. Her wings are curled around her shoulders protectively ... but she does not feel protected. She shifts around, a puppy going in circles to find a comfortable position. Yet physical comfort is not what she lacks ...
From above her comes the undulating glow of her lava lamp, but even that cannot soothe her tonight. She can feel the pulse of the liquid in her veins - but stronger than that she feels something she has never felt before.
What is it that bothers her so?
Her tiny body is wracked with fear, something she cannot explain, something she has never felt in her short life ... her plushies can do nothing to calm her. She pushes them aside and climbs out of her vase. Is there anywhere she might find comfort on this night?
Her eyes half closed with exhaustion, but sleep unwilling to come, she pads softly across the room to her mother's bed, upon which she climbs, curling up in the crook of her sleeping mother's arm. But she is trembling now ... what is this feeling?
Still unable to find comfort, she tries another position - curling up on her mother's pillow, between her shoulder and neck ... for as of yet she is small enough. She is so close that she can feel her mother's breath on her wings. Yet comfort is still unavailable for her ...
She tries crawling beneath the blanket, to sleep stretched out beside her mother. But again, this does not work. Her terror is growing now, more because she cannot find any emotional comfort anywhere than actual fear of something. But it is growing beyond her control. A whimper escapes her tiny lips, a tear from the corner of one tightly closed eye. Is there nowhere she can shake this feeling?
In the blue glow of her lava lamp, she spots something ... across the room. For a moment, it is hidden by shadow - but there, again - there it is. Her mother's bag. A sizable bag, meant for journeys, its inside limitless due to the rune on the bottom.
Perhaps in there ...
Skye slips off the bed and tiptoes across the room to the bag. Her tiny fingers fumble with the clasp, made clumsy by her overwrought emotions. But soon it is open, and without further delay the tiny angel slips inside the bag.
Immediately, the terrifying sensation ceases. She is surrounded with strange objects ... but not crowded. Nothing touches her. She sees in the dim light something that looks like a blanket - but feels like silk. It feels soft and smooth, comforting to the young surprise. She pulls it closer and wraps it around herself, and her worries disappear.
Finally, she is able to sleep.

It's a bright sunny day, but Skye is still inside, in an empty room in the inn. Yes, normally she enjoyed being out with other people, feeling the vibrations and the sensations that the world had to offer ... but today ... she wants to be alone.
She wants to practice.
The library at first had held no interest for her ... so many pictures, yes, but all of the same things ...
Yuki and Tristan had made it more interesting, though, she reflects as she sits in the middle of the room, her legs stretched out to the sides as far as she can make them go. She still hadn't learned the name of the thing they had taught her to do, but she loves it ... it makes her feel something that nothing else can make her feel.
Elation.
She has no idea where the word came from, no idea where she might have learned it - but so goes the story of just about every other word she uses to think. And yet she knows that it is the right word ... the perfect word.
She winces, feeling a strain at the tops of her legs as she stretches them even further out. But she has also learned that if she pushes herself further than she can go, but gently - that the next time she finds that she is able to go that far - and further. And so she pushes herself, all the while picturing Tristan, legs spread so wide they go straight sideways.
Her mind drifts back to the movements ... and she smiles, a smile that no one has seen before.
Perhaps one day she will be able to fly, as she feels when she repeats the steps.
Perhaps she should ask Tristan.
Or Gramma.

It is the end of the longest day of Skye's life - literally. Waking in another world, she spent time there, then returned for another day in Gaia. And at the end of such an adventure, she has no troubles falling asleep. A mere few hours here, yet a full week she had spent in the Four Lands. Not only did she meet Ulani and Ulrich, and her cousin Daeron, and her uncle Ruel, but she met her nako - her mommy's mother - and brought her home with her.
But by the end of the week, she had missed her mommy. Coming home, being with Lore and Mommy again, had been wonderful, had rejuvenated her, given her new energy - and exhausted her.
Tonight, she has no trouble sleeping. She knows now that she will soon have a new brother and sister, and she is excited. She knows she will no longer be the only angelic child in the family, and she is excited. But she has no trouble sleeping. The moment she is curled up in her vase, she is asleep.
After all, tomorrow is a new day, with new people to meet.

From one excitement to another! Last night, Skye was ecstatic to see that her new brother and sister's vases had begun reacting: she was being held right above them when the first feathers flew out.
But now, something even better: she herself has grown! She had been dancing for her mother and grandmother and fallen in the middle of a twirl, and stood up only to find that she was bigger, and it was harder to do her dance the same way. Well, and then Nako had looked at her like she was going to faint and Mommy was all excited and grabbed Skye and squeezed her in the tightest hug she had ever felt before ...
To be honest, Skye was feeling tight all over. Still.
But not everything was good about it. She didn't like going to bed anymore. She no longer fits into her vase, and sleeping on a bed, out in the open, is frightening. The only way she is able to sleep now is if she sleeps with Mommy, being held close, covered completely by the blanket.
Yet there is more comfort - Serenity has grown as well. Her growth was not as easy as Skye's, and Skye finds it easier to get along with her own growth by helping her sister as much as she can, in any way she can.
She can't wait to show Lore. What a surprise that will be for him!

At the end of the day, the young angel goes to bed exhausted. An early morning lies ahead of her, and a day much like the one that has just transpired. Until now she has had no formal schooling, unlike Serenity and Celebor; unlike Serenity and Celebor, she cannot go to a regular school. Her deafness prevents that. Mommy has little time for her, with the twins here now, who need even more attention than Skye herself.
But Lore has time, as well as the means, to help her.
For the past few days, Skye has been going with Lore to the library in the morning while her older siblings have been going to school. He has been helping her learn the alphabet, to read and to write, and sign language. When he needs a break he sends her off to Tristan for more dancing lessons.
Skye enjoys every minute of it.
But she is growing exhausted by it.
Perhaps things will change when she grows used to the days. She is certain it will. And she bears no grudge to the exhaustion that claims her now each night. It makes it easier for her to fall asleep - and for the first time since her growth, she has no trouble sleeping without her vase.

It's been a while since Skye has had something new happen in her life. Things have been pretty much the same for her: dancing, learning to read, write, more sign language, speaking ... over the past month, she has been growing used to these activities, and hasn't needed to sleep quite so much.
But tonight she is exhausted. It had been a long day for the Aldrich Winters children. They had spent the entire day in the Seconds world, where they were originally from, but few of them were together. Skye met a new friend: a fairy boy named Pete. He taught her many things ... about hearing, something no one had ever bothered to tell Skye about; about flying - he had taught her to fly, and Skye was as eager to practice flying as she was to dance.
He had shown her a new style of dance, one that was far different from any Skye had seen before, but one that was fun nevertheless.
Tonight as she falls asleep, she thinks about her new friend, and she is smiling.
