A list of pro-choice websites and sources for commonly referenced information. Book titles and authors will be shamelessly yanked from ntropi's book thread. If no one minds, I'll also list as many sources as possible that have been used in LoL threads. 3nodding If anyone has a site they want added, all they have to do is PM me or post it.

An asterik (*) indicates a website has a pro-life bias, whether or not it's obvious. Since we do cite pro-lifers sometimes, you know, even if it's just to show that they are, infact, pro-life. Tread carefully. "WARNING: GORE" means there is bloody imagery on the main page of the site. This does not mean there is not such imagery elsewhere on the site. If you find a site in need of a warning or asterik, please inform me.

Toga! Toga!
I don't see this link up there:

http://www.abortionfacts.com/abortion/numbers.asp

A bit of number-crunching.

Umm... Abortionfacts.com is a pro-life site pretending to be neutral.

Don't beleive me? Look at this little tidbit:

Quote:
What right has any religious body to impose its morality upon a woman?

If this were a sectarian religious belief, there would be justice to such a complaint. In fact, this is not a religious question except in the broad sense of equal rights, dignity, and justice for all.

If any religious philosophy has been imposed upon a nation, it is Secular Humanism. The U.S. Supreme Court has defined Humanism as a religion. The officer corps of the pro-abortion movement is almost entirely made up of secular humanists who have imposed their beliefs upon our nation.

I have the right to swing my fist, but that right stops at your nose. A woman has certain (not total) rights to her own body, but not over another living human’s body just because he or she still happens to live inside her.

The Ten Commandments forbad murder and stealing. So do the laws of every civilized nation. Do those laws impose religious morality? Hardly!

This is a civil rights issue. It is a question of whether an entire class of living humans shall be deprived of their basic right to life on the basis of age and place of residence.

Perhaps the question should be turned around :

What Right Does a Mother and Her Abortionist
Have to Impose Their Morality Upon
Her Unborn Child . . . Fatally ?

Spiffy: How the hell did that go over my head? xD Thanks. Prochoice.com isn't pro-choice either. WTF?

It still needs to be on the list, on the off chance anyone needs it to show bias or something, but...

This one might be worth cramming in the articles section?

CNN tells us what we already know about the nonexistance of a correlation between abortion and breast cancer.

Although... my description might do with more succinctness. whee

Another quote from "Abortion Facts", just because it disgusts me:

Quote:
How are abortions different in practice in clinics compared to other surgery?

Abortions are unique among all types of surgery.

The chart below reflects the situation in free standing abortion clinics in the U.S. To a greater or less extent, in every nation, abortion procedures are commonly exempt from the sanitary and professional rules required of other surgery.

ABORTION ETHICAL SURGERY
Payment Cash at door Pay later
Pathologic exam Seldom Routine
Advertising Routine Rare
Counseling Usually a farce Done if needed
Second opinion Never If needed
Informed consent Not required Always
Kickbacks Sometimes Never
Record Keeping Sketchy In detail
Pre-op exam Done when mandatory Detailed
Follow-up exam None Mandatory and detailed
Correct Diagnosis 10-15% done on non- Surgeon is disciplined if many
pregnant women wrong operations
Husband’s consent Not needed Expected
Husband informed Not necessary Always

Minor parentel consent Not needed Legally required
Parents informed Seldom Legally required
Tissue disposal In garbage In humane manner
Burial In garbage Yes, if large enough In humane manner
Surgical training Not required Absolutely required
Non-medical reasons 99% About 1%
Cash "kick-backs" Common Forbidden

It's the bolded bit that gets me.(http://www.abortionfacts.com/online_books/love_them_both/why_cant_we_love_them_both_17.asp)

Well, they ARE antichoice, so what did you expect? They honestly beleive that a pregnant woman does not have control over her body. They beleive it's up to the fetus, the husband, and the state.

Anyway, here are a few sources I found while researching for my debate:

Reproductive Health Reality Check has a lot of good information and is, obviously, very pro-choice. They also have a myth-debunking section and a "Reckles Rhetoric" section with a collection that would be absurd and hilarious if it wasn't real and horrifying.

Religious Coalition For Reproductive Choice has counteracted a lot of negative feelings I've been having about religion, lately. These people are amazing. They were holding a vigil in South Dakota, and rallying against prop 85 in California! They see right through other religious groups who want to ban abortion, and they beleive that denying the right to choose is immoral!

Dear Abby "Friend's Advice To Pregnant Teen Takes A Tragic Turn" Dear Abby is against forced parental notification and consent.

Sites about debate that I found:

"How To Debate Effectively and Rationally""
"Learn About Debating"

Against "abortion is the holocaust" absurdity:
Religious Action Center- The Holocaust

This is about a book that I have not read yet, but it seems to be a really good site and I like her blog:

"How The Pro-Choice Movement Saved America" Official Website

I don't know if this has been added yet, but the ACLU is pro-choice: American Civil Liberties Union: Reproductive Freedom
PostPosted: Fri Nov 17, 2006 4:55 pm

Here are some sources I found while I researched for my abortion debate:

Totally off-topic, I know, but The Sierra Club is an environmental group that has taken a pro-choice stance because of population concerns and support for women's rights.

Why Abortion Is Moral by Brian Elroy McKinley,
Why Abortion Is Biblical by Brian Elroy McKinley Get ready for the most oxymoronic-sounding thing ever: The guy who wrote this is a liberal born-again Christian. Seriously. He's written a lot of interesting stuff besides this, too, about the religious right. This article about them contains a tidbit about abortion: How to Fight the Religious Right: A guide to defending yourself against Fundamentalist Christians

Interview with a late-term abortion provider: http://www.motherjones.com/news/feature/2003/09/ma_499_01.html
Same source, different article: http://www.motherjones.com/news/feature/2001/09/abortion.html

This source may already be listed: ChoiceMatters.org: Pro and Con Arguments It comes from Westchester Coalition for Legal Abortion AKA: Choicematters.org
Here are more sources from that link:
"Anti-abortion leaders made up the term "partial birth abortion." The bills passed by Congress and the NY Senate simply define PBA as when the "person performing the abortion partially vaginally delivers a living fetus before killing the fetus and completing the delivery." That’s all there is to the bill: NO definition of "partially delivers" or "delivery;" NO mention of trimesters, duration of pregnancy, or fetal viability; NO guidelines for implementation, and NO exceptions for the woman’s health. "Delivery" is misused in order to deceive. The remaining wording in the bill sets out criminal penalties."
Source:
Punching The Air: Explaining opposition to banning "partial birth abortions."
This also has an excellent Q&A to help you explain to people why you do not support the "patial birth" abortion ban.
Anti-Abortionists intrude in everyone's life.

They have a massive links section with a lot of sites that we don't have:
http://www.choicematters.org/Links.html

Here are just some links they have:
Abortion Access Project
Abortion Clincs Online
The Abortion Conversation Project seeks to remove the stigma.
Access: Women's Health Rights Coalition just wants you to donate to them, it looks like.
Alliance For Justice is, apparantly, pro-choice.
Journal of American Medical Women Association
American Society For Reproductive Medicine
Association of Reproductive Health Professionals
Back Up Your Birth Control! is about Emergency Contraceptive, not abortion.
Center For Reproductive Rights
ChoiceUSA
International Consortium For Medical Abortion
National Coalition of Abortion Providers
The Power Of Choice
Teenwire
Refuse And Resist Activist organization. This is their huge list of links on reproductive rights.
Women On Waves provides abortion services to women in countries where abortion is illegal with a mobile clinic on a ship. WARNING: Looks like they fight fire with fire. They have a gory picture of a woman dead from coathanger abortion. You may not want to click on the "Facts" page.
YWCA Young Women's Christian Association is pro-choice? Cool.
