Well, I just wanted to know your opinions...
It seems on places like Fanfiction.net and Whofic.com that when we fanfiction authors take it upon ourselves to create a new doctor
(depending on when the author picked up writing an 11th or 12th incarnation.)
it is often met with resistance.
So just wondering what you all thought of author created doctors (this is not counting if the fic sucks for other reasons, whether it be poor grammar, bad plot, any of those things which can kill a good fic.)
What do you all think because I've been working on a New Doctor and I wasn't sure if I should bother posting the story or if no one really cares about my doctor.

Oh, that can be fun!
There's a thread in the Picture Gallery for inventing a new Doctor in artwork. I started on an idea but I've been tired from work & just haven't done a more finished drawing.
Just warn everybody you're going into "Imaginary Future Tale" territory & I think we'll all get into it well enough! smile

yeah? Well if I could draw I would do that but I can't even do stick figures well, and writing I can manage.
I'm tempted to post bits of the story here (I'm one of those authors who can't shut up and end up with 26 chapters and 50k words.) because you guys are certainly nicer all around than other people on other Who sites. (And you don't all seem to automatically detest Author-Doctors.
Though I wonder, I understand why it happened in the show, but how would people feel if I changed the ethnicity of the Doctor.
It just seems wrong to me to keep him the same all the time, both for sake of creativity and just because EVENTUALLY he'd have to change to something else yeah?

I love fan-created Doctors. I almost wish he would never reach his 13th incarnation so that there would always be the option of possible future Doctors.
I don't think there's too much of a problem with changing the ethnicity. I must admit I've never really thought about it - but so long as the character of the Doctor (I can't say personality here because that does change each regeneration but you know what I mean) stays true it's all good.
Also we do need more work in the fanfiction sub-forum! Moooore! whee

just so you know this could have been created in ether the main forum or the fanfiction subforum. ^-^ I think I'll movie it, which would you like it to be moved to? That way more people who are interested see it. Not many people look at topics in the chat subforum. heart

@ Seffy_chan Fanfiction is fine thank you. I am sorry if I did something wrong (which from your kind comment I don't THINK I did...) I just figured I wasn't sure where to put it so here would be best...

@Roobarb (firstly awesome name) I'm glad you love Author created doctors and actually I had a few creative ideas to handle his 13th. I mean they did mention that it was 13 OR you could sort of "earn" more. You'd think it would be hard to earn more when the Time Council is...GONE but the Master managed it so...I mean there is room for creativity there.
I do know what you mean, I mean personality does change but it is STILL the Doctor we know and love. So I'm glad you don't mind me mucking about with him.
I will post in the Fanfiction forum thing, though considering how long it's shaping up to be I might post previews of chapters and then link over to fanfiction.net

Allahura @Roobarb (firstly awesome name) Thanks! I look forward to reading your work. And I think a few people use fanfiction.net within their fan fiction threads and it seems to work well so go for it! 3nodding

Yeah I was noticing that about the fanfiction thing which is just as well because it seems to be a long first chapter. Oops.
And I will post soon, I just have to finish the chapter, do Grammar and spell check. Can't post shoddy work. ^_~
Or maybe I won't. Fanfiction is going through one of those evil phases where it doesn't want to work for me.

It's a good start introducing us to a new Doctor. At this stage Roz is better characterized than the Doctor, which is understandable since it's told from her perspective. I'm not completely sure what the new Doctor's personality is really like, so I hope we'll get a better sense of him and how he contrasts to earlier incarnations in the next installment. Just out of curiosity, is there a particular motivation for going with a latino-looking Doctor that dresses like d**k Tracy?
The interaction between the Doctor and Roz reminds a bit of the 3rd Doctor and Liz Shaw, which is great because I always liked how Liz wasn't completely in awe of the Doc and would needle him from time to time.
Looking forward to seeing what awaits them on the planet(s) Draxon...

I like it! It's good to have a likeable companion. I must admit that despite his different looks/clothing I do keep thinking of this Doctor as the Tenth one. It's just the way he's acted so far. Hairy's right you need to cover his personality next. Though it's fine to not know too much to begin with. Adds a little mystery.
Personally I wouldn't have mentioned that she's already travelled with him between being picked up and the breakdown of the TARDIS. I would have gone straight from the first meeting and onto their first trip. It's only a personal thing though - I hate feeling like I've missed something.

We will get a better sense of him soon. We know a lot about the Doctor already so I wanted to start with the character we know nothing about first. Doctor will come you just have to be patient.
The d**k Tracy thing is just personal. I adore d**k Tracy and I was trying to think of a sort of wild, look but different from what had been done already. I was torn between a few things and then my friend suggested why not d**k Tracy. She's never understood my fascination and she thinks its too weird a plot. So...I thought it fit.
The Latino thing, well I wanted a different ethnicity. He's not honestly Latino in my opinion, only has a dusky skin-tone and dark hair. I am not honestly sure what ethnicity he is...I just...I was tired of seeing all pasty doctors, not that there's anything wrong with that.
I liked Liz a ton as well, glad it shows through.

Glad you like it! I kind of plan him to be a bit of an amalgom of the 10th, and the 4th, and maybe the 8th a little but hopefully he'll be his own doctor.
I do agree with the mystery and also I didn't want the chapter to be too long so I had to chose what would stay, what would go and what you would have to wait for, I hope you'll agree with my choices.
I did that for a reason, you'll find out where they went and the adventure they had later. I will tell about it, you're waiting for it because I wanted to start with a large grand adventure and from what I see of Roz the first trip would have to be a bit calm or she might be scared off. So I wanted to start with an exciting adventure.
