Do the colleges in Japan have uniforms. If so do foreign exchange students that go have to wear them? Or is it that some colleges do it and others don't? Also think of anything extra for this subject.

I don't believe they do.

I do know that most/all highschools do, because they're all infact private. That's why middle schoolers don't have to wear uniforms [all public]. 3nodding

Most universities don't. Some girl's universities used to, but not many anymore.
Unfortunately you are mistaken about high schools and middle schools.
Both public and private high schools and middle schools exist, and regardless of which, most high schools and middle schools BOTH require uniforms.

Many elementary schools do not require uniforms anymore, other than the hat when traveling outside of school, but this has no relation to whether the school is public or private.

BTW: most of the high and middle schools that DON'T require uniforms are private schools.

Thank god that Japanese colleges don`t have uniforms!! I had to sweat through over a year of Japanese high school in one of those damn blazers scream !!

But in some respects, colleges do have a non-standard unifrom. When third year students go job hunting, many wear blazers with the school logo emblzened on them. Also, the business clubs and various other clubs all have their own uniforms. Many 専門学校 (senmon gakkou or vocational colleges) require uniforms but those are more like junior colleges or job prep schools. But its not unsual to find 3rd students enrolled in both senmongakko and regular college so many people come to school in such uniforms, especially once the job hunting season really get humming

What about like a level of dress? Like I am going for grad school starting in September, and I have visited the college but wasnt really paying attention, am I going to stick out wearing jeans and a t shirt (besides the fact I am 6'2")?

College itself is as casual as any where and you can see all the ridiculous fashions on campus. The only time formal suits are required is for job seminars and vocational training. I assume that you are going to enter an international business school because that is the most common grad school positon, so i would check with your college international office if formal clothing are required for any special seminars, internships, job training, etc.

Ah, Hokkudai has an excellent international program. Probably one of the best amongst the National University. I took a tour of the campus myself and found Sapporo not to be to my liking but I found the teachers to very friendly and many fluent in English and or European languages. I'm still working on my batch. degree here in KGU in Kansai so i've got some time to think about grad schools. I've been seriously considering Rittsumeikan or Nagoya Uni because they have a great international mass media department that synchs up well with my degree. But be warned, this year it snowed A LOT in Hokkaido. Don"t forget your snow shoes! xd
