Mchele was wandering back to the small cave where Kizuka had set up their home. The cubs were lively now, wanting to play all the time and even following him out and about the Pridelands, sometimes without him even noticing until they pounced him! sweatdrop
He hoped he was providing a good father figure, as Kiz wanted. He owed it to her to help and do what he could for her and the family. Not to mention he loved those little bundles of new life. He could just sit and watch them tumble about... until their attention turned on him and they included him in their pounce practice.
It made him smile as he thought about it and walked along on his now adult-sized paws.

As was pretty much the norm these days 'Kota was sitting in the opening of the cave watching out. His mother and sisters were fast asleep within but he liked to be awake when everyone was sleeping so he could explore the world and meet new faces. Of course, when his father approached he grinned and got to his tiny black paws skidding towards the large male he pounced obne of his legs and gnawed his ancle before speaking. "Hi dad!" he grins flashing his tiny white teeth as he did so his onyx like eyes shining brightly in the sunlight.
"Everyones asleep" he grins "'Cept me, I was bored so I got up!" he smiles looking proud of himself with this little announcement. He looked up at his father. He didn't thinkhe had ever had any alone time with his dad but he admired the big lion with the great big fluuf. "Mum ses when i grow up I'm gunna ahev a great big fluuf like you dad" he grins "only shinier!" he giggles relating exactly what his mother had told him. He was very proud of the fact that one day he would have a mane. Lifting his toes to his head he ruffled what little fur (and there was very little) there was there making his head fur stick up "I'm growin it already see" he presented his head to his father for inspection the hairs slowly falling back in to place they didn't stay spikey for very long.

Mchele's eyes lit up when he spotted the little black cub at the entrance of the cave. Even though he liked to watch them while they slept, it was even better to interact with them while they were awake.
He let little 'Kota run up and tackle his ankle, a huge grin on his face the whole time. "Hi 'Kota." He replied with just as much enthusiasm as the cub. "What are you doing up and about? Is nap time over?"
"Oh, they're still asleep..." With this bit of news he lowered himself down close to the ground so the little one could hear him as he whispered. "But you were bored? Well, we can't have that can we?" He gave him a conspiring smirk. "Should we go do something while the girls are asleep? We don't want to wake them up if they're tired."
He was just about to lead the cub further away when he announced he was growing a mane, or was going to at least. "Your mother's right, you will grown a fluff when you're older. A mane, all male lions get them." He chuckled. "Won't your sisters be jealous? And shiner? Probably, mine's brown but your's will probably be a shiny black or white colour. like your fur." Giving the cub's head a tickle with his wiskers, Mchele inspect the tiny tuff of slightly longer hair. "You know, you're right! It is growing already. I think you'll have a very nice mane some day."

'Kota grinned broadly, he and his dad were guna do something together? Yay! "can we go and do something dad huh?" he beams standing on his back legs and putting his tiny little black paws on his fathers nose. "They won't be awake for hours yet!" He smiles the thought of doing something with his dad, just him and his father excited the cub. Who wouldn't want to spend time with their father figure? "what we gunna do huh?" he smiles excited and ready to go his tiny tail wigling as he held himself up by leaning on his fathers nose.
Of course, being told that his mane was growing in allready made him puff out his chest and grin happily. His dad would know he'd grown a mane after all. "hehe girls can't grow manes mum says" He licks his lips "but when I grow up I'll have a great big fluuf just like you dad and I'll be huge and roar at people and stuuffs" he made a cute little moweing growl then and smirked.

"No, they can't. But they'll be impressed when you grow your's. A well groomed mane is a must, 'Kota." He murmered in mock seriousness. "Take care of your's as it grows. Heh heh and roaring? Well I can see you've been practicing!" It was adorable how 'Kota tried his best to sound ferocious but ended up sounding just as cute as usual.
"Alright, let's go see what we can find to do..." He stood up and began to walk away from the den. He made sure to keep his pace slow enough for 'Kota's tiny legs to keep up and wondered about what he could do with his son.
Hmm... it was probably too soon to be teaching the cub how to hunt properly. Like the other Pridelanders, Mchele believed in catching only what you were going to eat and since the cubs still fed from their mother they wouldn't be able to eat meat yet. No need to go killing and hurting any little animals just for the sake of it. But they could do something similar without using an unfortunate mouse or bird as their prop. And hopefully it would still be just as fun for the little cub.
"I think I shall teach you some important lessons. All lions need to know these things and it'll help you when you're bigger too." He looked back over his shoulder and led the way to a grove of fruit trees grew near the boarder of the Mistweavers. There he knew a tree that grew hard fruit which would suit their needs.

Oh the cub knew keeping his mane primp andproper was important, he did so like to be groomed secretly. "yeah I bin' practicin' my roarins daddy" he grins diving after his father as they started their adventure together.
'Kota pounced after his father weaving in and out of his legs as they padded along always lookingup to see what his father was thinking. Of course whent hey came o te edges of the pridelands 'Kota looked on curiously. Something told him this was a border, he wasn't sure why exactly though. He puffed out his chest in a proud manner being told that his father was going to teach him something very important was a wonderful experience for the youngster. He wasn't teaching his daughters after all, just his son! He grinned, he truely felt honored.
As they neared the fruit grove the black cub tiltedhis head curiously "what are we going there for daddy?" he questioned wondering about the group of trees.

"This," Mchele announced once they'd come to a stop, "is the boarder of the Pridelands. It can be very dangerous beyond these boarders and there aren't any of the other pride members out there to look out for you if you get into trouble. Remember, it's important that you don't go wandering past the boarders while you're still so young." Although Mchele knew he couldn't force his cubs to stay in the home lands and Kizuka herself was from beyond the boarders. But until they were older it would be safer for them to do so.
"And what we're doing here is getting one of these." He padded up to a tree where long, odd looking growths bulged and hung down on vines. After looking around for a suitable one, he reared up on his hind legs and swiped at a smaller and more round fruit with a massive paw. It broke from its vine and fell to the ground with a thud, fortunaly being under-ripe so it didn't squash.
"We're going to use this for our lesson." He looked up and smiled before grabbing the fruit carefully in his jaws and taking it to a clearer spot nearby. "It'll help you learn how to stalk and chase. And those will be skills you'll need throughout your life." Mchele nodded once he'd put it down again a little way away from 'Kota. For all it was, stalking and chasing a round bit of fruit, he was talking it up rather alot. xd

'Kota tilted his head. It was a fruit. How did a fruits teahc him how to stalk? He looed up at his father and nodded. Why wouldn't he beleive his dad after all? If he dsaid a fruid could teach him how to chase and stalk then so be it.
Wriggling his tiny tail he giggled and pounced after his fatehr bouncing at his tail with his little claws extended as he went. When they stopped int he clearing he bumped in to his fathers back leg though soon recovered and weaved himself between mcheles front fore legs lookign at the fruit "Okay dad what do i do?" he questions looking up at his father the white mark on his mouth and nose a stark contrast against the rest of his black fur.

The adult lion tried not to laugh out loud as his son bumped into him and then walked out from underneath him between his front paws. At best he could manage to keep it at bay with a cheerful smile on his face. "What you do is watch me and do what I do, ok?" He stepped over to one side of 'Kota and crouched down, glancing at the fruit sitting haplessly in the long grass a few feet in front of them.
"When you get older you'll need to catch food, your mother won't feed you forever and I will need your help too when I'm older. So the best way of catching prey is to stalk up behind it." Mchele put his head down low and kept his eyes focused on the fruit. "You can't let them see you or hear you so you have to keep low and quiet. Go on, give it a go. Keep an eye on your prey," he nodded at the fruit, "and try to hide from it."

'Kota watched for a moment before mimicking his fathers movements lowering to his belly though his little tail somehow managed to flick up in the air, the little white tip clearly visable.his tiny pink tongus stuck out as he looked thoughtfula nd glanced up at his father to see if he was doing it right. "Like this?" he questioned his dark eyes curious. He blinked though, he forgot he was supposed to be quiet! "like this" he whispers trying to look stealthy white his tiny butt was stuck up in the air refusing to do what his front end was doing.

Gently, Mchele used his front paw to push 'Kota's little black rump down with the rest of his body. Keeping his paw on the wiggling tail a moment longer, he tried to help the excited cub keep it still. It was hard though!
"Yes, like that." He whispered back. "You want to keep your legs down low so you can jump further when you pounce." Grinning he indicated for 'Kota to go ahead and tackle the fruit. "I know you've got the pouncing bit right, I've seen you do it to your sisters." He winked at his son. "Go on, pounce on that fruit and catch it!"

'Kota grinned, he was indeed a champion tackler. With his bum firmly in line with the rest of his body now he eyes the fruit and after a moment of his bum wriggling back and forth he took a little run and a flying leap at the fruit rolling over with it as it toppeled. "eep!" he squeeked jumping off the fruit and glareing at it. Maybe this was going to be harder than he thought? Wern't fruits not supposed to move and stuff?
Looking to his father he tilted his little black head curiously "was taht right?" he questioned his shining black orbs looking hopeful. Of course, tackling the fruit was nothing like takling his sisters. Fruit might move but it didn't bite back!

Mchele looked on, pleased with his son's stalking and pouncing moves. It seems like he'll be a natural. Except for the tackle at the end.... Surprisingly 'Kota seemed almost unsure of the fruit and jumped off it almost as soon as he had landed on it.
The cub's father moved up closer and sat down to watch from a better angle. "That was very good!" He complimented with a sincere nod. "But you have to hold onto your prey after you've pounced on it. Or else it'll run away!" And saying that it gave the fruit a reasonably hard knock with his paw to send it rolling away.
"This time you'll have to chase it in order to catch it!" Just like the last sprinting part of the hunt, when your prey finally knew you were after it and were trying to dash away.

Kota nods and with his eyes firmly placed on the fruit he raced afte it his tiny legs making even a short distance a fairly long way to run, however he was soon upon the fruit once again and he pounced it sinking his teeth in to the unripe skin and growling. of course when the sour taste of the fruit his his tongue he soon released it and made a disgusted taste his tongue sticking out and his mouth wide open "blech!" he exclaimed blinking up at his father with a surprised look on his face. "I think fruits are the most deadly prey daddy! plus it tasted yukky!" he grins bouncing off the fruit again. he would remember not to bite it next time it just wasn't worth that foul taste!

"That's the way!" Mchele ran up after him once 'Kota had caught the 'prey'. "When it runs and you pounce on it you must make sure to grab a tight hold with your claws, and yes, even your teeth."
But he couldn't help but smile appologetically at the cub's reaction to the bad taste. He hadn't thought of that when he'd started the lesson. Oh well, the fruit wasn't poisonous, he'd seen birds and things eat them.
"Maybe not deadly, but not the nicest tasting. We don't eat fruit because they taste yucky. But do you know why I was using it to help teach you?" This was one of the most important lessons he wanted to teach his children.
