I just love how languages borrow from eachother. I've noticed a lot of words in English as an example have borrowed words from Arabic, many of them for accademic reasons in a great cultural exchange... Some of these words include, but are not limited to:

Sugar (Sukkar)
Coffee (Qahweh)
Algebra: (Al-Jabr = literally: the act of binding something together... JaBaRa means "binded", JaBiR means "binder"... ect.)
Alcohol (Al-KuHool... a plural of KuHL often meaning "eye-liner")
Almanac (Al-MaNaaKH... or "Climate")
Sofa (SooFah... a piece or pile of wool (SooF) used as a seet...)
Alkali (Al-Qaly... the act of frying (for cooking)...)
Assasin (Hashshasheen... Plural of one Hashshash, "one who consumes Hasheesh")

And many more I've don't seem to remember right now off the top of my head... sweatdrop

How about Stable (istabel)?

Lots of English words came from Hebrew as well. For example.
Earth (Eretz)
Regular (Ragil)
Mirror (Mar'ah)
Evil (Avel)
Fruit (Pri)
Sack (Sack)
Wine (Yain)
Genious (Gaon)
Anciet (Noshan)

Some of those don't sound very similar, but I guess you need the accent to make it work.

I thought fruit was a French word, or did the French take it from Hebrew first?

French took from Latin, and Latin either took from Hebrew or took from Greek (which took from Hebrew).

Or Pheonecian, which took from Aramaic, from which Hebrew was taken, yes?

Yes. XD
So we all just speak a very odd form of Aramaic, eventually. XDD

Oh wow... I almost forgot about that one! Haaretz, means "The Land"...

(Hebrew) Aretz = ארץ
(Arabic) ArDh = أرض
(English) Earth

Earth (Eretz)
Regular (Ragil) Is that "Ragil" as in "man" or "walker"?
Mirror (Mar'ah) "Mir'aah" (standard) "Miraayah" or "Mraayah" (popular slang)

The cool thing is, I found that I was able to read a verse from the bible written in Aramaic (or was it Syriac?).

Oh... not at all biggrin Actually, the Arabic Alphabet might have originated from the Aramaic Alphabet through the phoenician...

The website is: http://phoenicia.org/semlang.html
The sound-file is: http://phoenicia.org/majdlak.mp3

I've heard it, and it sounds a lot like Levant Arabic (Syrian, Lebanese, Palestinian...)

Just in case, the transliteration of that statement would be:
"TaBARaKa 'iLAHY KuLla AL-WaQTi" (the upper case are letters, the lower case are Harakat...

A friend of mine found a massive etymology for that word (and yes, I think it was from Arabic originally) that shows how "naranja" (Spanish) and "orange" (English... like you ddidn't know razz ) came from teh same root.
