I would really recommend if you want to learn a language like Japanese that you use lots of visual aids.
I really love this game
Kanji Trainer PenPen because it's a simple yet effective (and free) matching game...and it has penguins
heart It has levels for basic Kana (hiragana and katakana) as well as kanji. I would use this to study for tests.
I would also recommend the book "Kanji Pict-o-grapix" It takes Kanji and equates the symbols to images for the purpose of memorization. I've know many people besides myself to recommend it (including one of my profs), and it can be found in most book stores.
I don't know how much anyone here wanted to learn about the language or how much anyone knows, but I can offer a few little basics to beginners.
First things to learn: Basic phrases, pronunciation, sentence structure, and kana.
All four are very important because you need them to build on.
The first most important word to know in Japanese is
DESU (pronounced Dess where the u is virtually dropped)
This word,
DESU is the
to be verb.
It is used in many sentences.
Examples:
Oishii
desu.
It is Taisty.
Namae wa Fujiko
desu.
My name
is Fujiko.
When you add
KA after
DESU, the sentece becomes a question. It is like using a question mark at the end of your sentence.
Example:
Onamae wa nan
desu ka.
What
is your name
?Well, I don't want to overstep on this, but since this was a thread for learning Japanese...
Basically, if anyone finds this helpful and wants me to add more, I'd be happy too. If not, sure thing~
