Has anyone ever read a book or story in a language they didn't know? It's weird...

Well, You need to know the language to read it... =P
But I read Japanese manga (In Japanese- Not translated into English) all the time! It's a great way to keep up my language skills. And some simple books in French. I love my French heritage, so I'm taking French all four years in highschool to better learn it. [And possibly read some great books from there when I'm fluent enough! Childrens books for now...]

I find that reading children's books in other languages is a good way to learn the language. They repeat phrases a lot, and the words and sentence structure are usually simple. But normally I have to at least know a tiny bit of the language before I read.

Few months back I came across a copy of Forrest Gump in what I thought was Norwegian, I'm currently trying to teach my self the language, so I thought I might aswell buy it and just maybe try and translate it to help with my study, but when I showed my Norwegian friend, he said it was Danish. Grrr.

I have a biography of Pierrot and the entire series of Rurouni Kenshin in Japanese, but I don't known enough to read it. I have learning software and books that I am using in order to be able to read it.
I like to read in French. I've never been very good at speaking it, but I can read it just fine.

I enjoy reading books in French very much. It helps me develop my vocabulary and it also gives me insight into their culture. And it makes me look smart. xd

I have Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire in Russian. It's confusing, and I can't translate it very accurately, but it can be quite amusing when I accidentally translate it wrong.
xD
Much like the time I translated something from Latin to English and ended up with "he entered through the young man".

I love reading books and watching movies in italian. It helps alot with my skills and also makes it more interesting.
When my dad was studying egyptology alot of the books he used were in Italian, French and German. I had alot of trouble when I tried to read them.

Lady Hoshi I enjoy reading books in French very much. It helps me develop my vocabulary and it also gives me insight into their culture. And it makes me look smart. xd I'm currently trying to find books to read in french. The level I'm looking for is middle-school level; say 6-9th grade level...I want to eventually move on to classics, but I don't think I'm there yet :p Do you know where I could get my hands on French translations of books?

My class is going to read more sophisticated books in French now, because we're finally considered old enough to go farther than children's books. (I've been taking French Immersion for the past five years.) It's gonna be great!

I've read a few very short French children's books, and I have a copy of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire in Russian. Note: I cannot read, speak or write in Russian - but my stepmum can, as she actually comes from Russia, so that's helpful.
I've attempted translating it using my Russian dictionary.
