[The Wind Song]
The wind blew so hard it almost felt like winter, chilling her down to the core. Clinging to herself to keep as warm as she possibly could, she cursed herself for not listening to Api's suggestion of bringing a jacket. Oh, would she hear about it when she got home. The feline never liked to rest once proven right. As much as she wished to get out of the wind, she began dreading to go home even more. After a day like today, that was the last thing she needed.
Suddenly an odd sound caught her ears, drifting over the howling wind. It seemed almost like an eerie melody, hollow and sad. As creepy as it first came out to be, she began to think of it as a very melodious tune, so beautiful in it's own way. Standing there, forgetting how cold she indeed was, she listened, being entertained by the ghostly melody. That seemed to come from all sides; no real direction could be determined.
Taking a step to steady herself, her foot connected with something. How odd... Nothing had been in that spot before... Looking down she saw the culprit, of both the connection and the sound. It was a vase, a lovely shade of cyan, with bits of red and pewter all around.
What a neat find! Then as she picked it up, the wind stopped entirely. Now if the randomly appearing vase was weird enough... Suddenly she heard the sound of one...no...two women giggling slighty. Turning her head, no one was there, and the laughter had stopped as soon as it had started.
Still, she now had a very nice vase to take home and place on the table. She would just have to make sure Api didn't get near it...

[+Smoking Gun...er...Vase+]
The winged feline blinked at, in his opinion, odd colored vase with slight interest as he walked around it. It was a very odd find, yet Mizu seemed very pleased with it, and she should, it having no cracks or blemishes of any sort.
Api was actually surprised that Mizu had left without taking the vase with her as she had for the past few days. Chuckling slightly he touched the vase with his paw, making it weave ever so slightly before correcting its balance. Should he break it? No, it was to nice a shape and size to do that. Besides, Mizu would kill him...or at least not feed him for a while.
"Maybe I should paint you instead..." he mused with a smirk, imagining the wonderous expression Mizu would have when she got home. Sure, he might not get to eat, but not as long as he would if he had broken it.
Suddenly the vase began to wobble, making a pattering rumble against the wooden table. Shocked the cat rapped both arms around it, trying to make it steady...though to no avail. Then, as if by magic, black smoke wisped out of the mouth of the vase. It fluttered down, touching the table for but a second, then vanished as more came out of the top.
"How...how will I be able to explain this to Miz..." moaned Api, feeling that nothing good could come out of this...

"Oh come on now Api," Mizu retorted with a mocking tone. The cat had refused to go near her vase ever since it had begun spewing black whispy smoke from its mouth. Sure, she herself found the whole thing odd at first, but it seemed to be harmless. The smoke even vanished once it touched the table or floor.
"No! I don't want it to kill me!" Api growled.
Mizu rolled her eyes. "A vase cannot kill you Api...Yeesh..." she sighed as she plucked him up by the scruff of his neck. At once he began to yowl and moan in a high pitched tone, but the woman paid him no mind.
"It's just a normal vase you fraidy cat!" she said as she hauled him off to the room the culprit was stored.
Api tried his hardest to get away from Mizu's grasp. "A NORMAL vase doesn't spit out smoke!" he howled. After a few moments he managed to wiggle around enough to be able to sink his teeth into Mizu's arm. Sneering at her howl as she let him go, he gracefully landed and tried to bolt just to discover that he couldn't.
Mizu glowered at the red cat as her foot remained firm on his tail. Oh how she wanted to smack him but like any good human being, she refrained.
"That was uncalled for Api..." she said with an unchararistical hiss in her voice. Her stare remained fierce as she watched Api cower at her anger.
"He...hey..." he stuttered with fright. "I'm just trying to keep you safe," he explained. He then began trying to pull his tail out from Mizu's shoe, but her foot held fast.
Thwump
What an odd sound that was...
"Eh? What was that?" Mizu asked aloud as she lifted her foot that kept her feline companion captive. Looking down at him she saw the winged fellow shrug his shoulders, seemingly just as confused as she was. Walking into the room the sound came from, she saw that the vase was laying on its side, smoke no longer coming out of it. Still, she looked at it with awe, because the smoke had stopped, but something took its place.
The small boy gave one final tug, and with a pop he came out of the mouth of the vase. Looking around, he quickly noted that he couldn't see anything, so with groping hands he moved back to the vase and reached inside. When he found what he needed he pulled his hand back out and put on his small round glasses. Gray eyes blinking, he gave a small smile as he flushed in emarassment.
"Hello there..." he said with a meek laugh.
"Uhh...hi there... I...I'm Mizu..." she stammered. The boy was awefully cute. "Who... who are you?"
"Syrus...I think... yeah, my name is Syrus"

The large brown cat smiled as he saw young Syrus' eyes twinkle at the shops many trinkets and knick-knacks. They boy had confided in him, telling him of his friend and her family. They were sad for some reason, though like a good child the boy didn't press the matter. Sanctus then kindly asked Mizu, their shared gaurdian, if he could acompany Syrus to a local merchant that had many wares that would perhaps cheer up a gloomy female, and was content at Syrus' exitement at making his friend and her family happy, if only a little bit.
"See anything that you think they will like?" the cat asked as a glowing orb of his hovered about.
Syrus had his eyes on something. They were small and came in many different colors, and in his opinion, very nice for cheering up gifts. Looking through the many hues, his eyes rested upon three different colored ones, which he picked up quickly.
"I think so San..." he mused as he rolled them in his hands. Would they like them? He sure hoped so. They all seemed so sad, and the boy truly wanted them to be happy, or at least happier then what they were when he spoke to Daine. Their gloomy faces made him feel gloomy too.
He placed the objects on the counter and the woman there told him what he owed. After paying the woman wrapped each one in a box and said that she knew where Daine's mother lived and would be happy to take the boxes there when she had the chance. After writing a message to each of the girls the woman took the boxes and placed them with other gifts she had to deliver.
Smiling he clung happily to Sanctus as they began to walk home. He couldn't wait to talk to them again, still slightly worried that they wouldn't like them...
Well, it was too late to turn back. Perhaps everything will go alright...
He sure hope so...

Mizu laughed as she watched Syrus look at the metal stick she handed him. She knew that he didn't know what it was, but it was fun to see him look at it so intently and try to figure what it was.
"Would you like a hint Syrus?" When the boy nodded she got out a lighter that she bought for the occasion. Pressing the metal tab a few times she finally made a small flame pop out.
"Okay Syrus. Put the very tip in and wait till it lights" she explained
Nodding the boy did what he was told. To his surprise, a few seconds in the flame, the tip exploded! Or thats what he thought at first anyway. As he pulled it away, a burst of sparkling light still remained, almost like a...
"A star!" he giggled in awe. "A dancing star!" and with that he skipped around and waved his star about, loving the trail of light it left wherever it went. When the star went away he was sad for only a few moments before Mizu placed another star stick in hand. What fun!
Api walked out to see what was making the noise and light that had so rudely woken him. Could the child be so stupid?
"You silly boy... those aren't sta..." he stopped as Mizu swooped down and covered his mouth. Wiggling away he growled.
"What was that for?"
"Just let him dream for now."

Peering at what she just wrote, Mizu sighed and crumpled up the piece of paper, tossing it aside. Her muse had been missing for some time now, especially when she needed it, which was now more then ever.
Money had become tight as of late. There were bills to pay, and not enough people willing to hire her. She felt lost, alone, hopeless. How would she be able to feed her 'children'. Sure, the human one of the family she did not birth, and the other two were winged cats. They called her Mizu, not mom, yet she felt like one to them. All of them.
She saw in a magazine that there was a poetry contest with a prize for $10,000. Sure, it wouldn't get her through the year, but it could help in the crisis she was in right now. She had dabbled in poetry for fun over the years, and many of her friends liked the ones she showed them, so she'd thought she would give it a try.
Now, with the deadline closing in fast, her confidence was at an all time low. There was no way she'd get out of this... Simply no way. Allowing it all to come out, she began sobbing, thinking she was in the privacy of her own room, which never really is the case in the Taji household.
Being feline, Api was very good at keeping un-noticed. Usually he would pop in at the most inoppertune time and harass Mizu with his sarcasm, but he felt, after watching her try so hard to earn a little more money to keep the family together, that now wouldn't be the best time to be cruel. Yes, he had a heart, he just was never fond using it in the presance of others.
Keeping himself consealed underneath Mizu's bed, he found himself wishing he could help her out in...some way. She had so willingly taken him into her home, as she did the others, and now she was suffering because of her kindness. Peeking out, he saw that she was occupied with her own sorrow, so he made a break for the door.
As he padded down the hallway, he caught sight of the human boy heading towards Mizu's room. He KNEW for a fact that Mizu wouldn't want Syrus to see her in the condition she was in, so he stopped the boy in his tracks.
"Where you headin' off to sport?" he asked.
Syrus tilted his head slightly. He had gotten used to Api popping out of nowhere. He sighed as he tried to get past the red cat.
"It's bedtime. Mo...I mean Mizu always tucks me in at bedtime..."
"Sorry kid, no can do. Mizu's busy right now with...work! She just got a client who is very hasty and wants her to get done right away," Api told the boy, not allowing him to pass. "And go on and call her Mom. I'm sure she won't mind..." After looking at the boy's dissapointed expression, Api smiled at patted him with his paw.
"Tell you what. I'll tuck you in tonight. Will that be allright?"
The boy blinked, then smiled. He liked it when Api was nice to him.
"Sure!" he said with a giggle before skittering off to his own room, waiting for his new red feline friend to come in the door and bid him goodnight, wishing that his 'mother' would become busy more often.

[Syrus' Journal-1]
Hey there! My name is Syrus! I'm writing in my new little journal that mom bought for me so I can write down thing that I do and feelings I want to get out that I don't want other people to know about.
So, I guess I need to catch you up on the things that have happened to me, seeing as this is my first entry... so where should I start...
Well, so far I have only one friend that doesn't live with me. Her name is Daine, and she's really tall, much taller then me. She has two sisters whom I don't know very well, though I did get all three of them gifts when they were feeling sad. It seemed to make all of them a little happier, which makes me happy two.
I live with my mom, Mizu. I just recently started calling her mom, seeing as she introduced herself as Mizu instead of my mom, I thought it would be wrong to call her that, but after talking at Api, I started to claim her as my mom, and she seems to like taking on the motherly part of my life, so that's good.
There are also two winged cats, Api and Sanctus. Api is smaller and red, while San is larger and brown with cream swirls and a halo. Api is normally sleeping and grumpy, but as of late he's been helping out more around the house and being nicer to me. He's still not all too fond of San though. I think he's jelous. San is nice and has always helped mom out, and sometimes he watches me when mom is too busy with work
