The wind blew. Something rustled. There was a noise from nearby. Something she recognized? Someone? Another noise.

No. There was something out there, but it wasn't something she knew. Not at all. It frightened her, causing her heart to skip a few beats then, when it returned to beating, went dangerously fast. Paw-steps? The noise... her heart was beating too fast in her ear for her to be able to even try and figure out what it was.

But she didn't have to wait for long. Suddenly something rushed out from the bushes, out of the darkness, leaping out towards her with fangs bared cruelly. The creature was dark, sleek, quick, strong... someone she knew...

Suddenly Mo's eyes shot open. Her breathing was fast and shallow and her heart was still beating faster than she had ever thought possible. It was early morning, the sun not yet peaking fully over the horizon. In fact, she could barely glimpse the top of it.

Looking around, she tried to give herself something else to think about. That figure in her dream... it had been too familiar.

Whining to herself, the spotted female attempted to resettle herself and fall back asleep. Though she was still uneasy, she finally managed to drift back off into restless sleep.

She was back in dreamworld, it seemed, but again it was dark. Again there was something out there, something that was watching her, waiting. But for what?

Not much happened between the time she fell back asleep and when she had to wake back up, however, as something moved beside her and close to her, drawing the female from her sleep and forcing her to wake up with a sudden jolt.

"What?!" she cried, her breathing coming in fast and ragged whisps again. She could feel her heartbeat in her ears once more as she stared forward, wild-eyed, at nothing. She stayed like that for a few moments before finally flicking an ear in his direction, his breathing audible to her keen ears.

"Gareth?" she whispered, her nose randomly unable to smell the wind. What was happening? Her eyes blurred next, and she became nervous and fearful.

"Gareth, you're there right?!"

While she had been sleeping, Gareth had reposed himself to nursing the end of his wounded snout. What would he say when Mozelle asked him about it? Crab battle? No- it would have been much better to say something that did not imply he was absolutely pathetic. But, he already knew lying made him nervous, and the last thing he wanted was to lie to her. Although how she'd take him being a miserable failure he could only guess.

He shifted a bit, and suddenly the grey female's breath became haggard. He paused for a long moment and looked at her in concern, when suddenly she jerked herself aright.

"--yes! It's me, we're alright." He blurted, but took a quick lookaround to be sure of it. "It's alright Mozelle. Nothings here."

Her smell came back to her a few seconds later, giving the female great relief. But then her relief was shot down straight afterwards when she detected the smell of blood.

"Gareth... I smell blood. Are you bleeding? I can't see." She lay there, still. Only her ears twitched. Mozelle surprised even herself with the calm sense that she felt and spoke with. Then, like a blind puppy straight after birth, she felt her way towards him, until her side was pressed firmly against his for comfort.

"I don't know what's happening."

She must have been still somewhat asleep. Nervously he wagged his tail and whined, nosing her muzzle as she blindly prodded around towards him. "It's alright, nothing is happening. I got a ding on my nose and it's just being stubborn about clotting." He spoke, licking the end of his snout.

"Did you have a dream?" He questioned softly, trying not to fall too much in a state of panic.

Mozelle nodded blindly, both figurtively and literally. She knew that something not-small must have happened. Normally a stumble or a simple bump into a tree didn't cause bleeding. But if the male didn't want to explain to her what really happened for whatever reason, then she would respect his decision and not pry.

"Just make sure it stays clean until it does clot."

Suddenly her eyes stopped being blurry and she could see. Thankful and relieved, the female sighed then instantly melted downward, her head going to rest on her paws as she lay next to Gareth.

His question had disturbed her a little, but not so much that she was thinking of not telling him. "More of a nightmare, I think. Frightening it was... I think that's what made me wake up like I did." She paused, taking in another deep breath. Her heart still seemed to be pouding in her ears.

"It was dark and I couldn't really see anything aside from what was right in front of me, which happened to be bushes. It must have been somewhere else, since I didn't recognize the place at all. There was a creature amongst the bushes, and though I didn't recognize the forest, I did recognize the creature." Another pause and Mo glanced up at him with curious yet frightful violet eyes. "Gareth... I saw Kapu."

Another deep breath came to her as she attempted to gain control of her breathing. The thought of her nightmare and what had happened... it just seemed all too much for her and she was wheezing.

A few coughs and a head shake later, Mozelle was seemingly fine again. But she was looking at the ground forlornly with her ears folded back against her skull. "He attacked me."

Gareth nodded his head softly, licking the end of his snout. "I will. I think It's almost stopped." Or, he hoped so. As his tongue stroked across the end of his nose, he couldn't help but remember the small, somewhat disgruntled child he'd spoken to before. It was an odd thing to think about at that moment, but yet... he felt he was missing something.

"A nightmare?" He spoke, turning his head around and catching her face in the faded light. She did look a bit hazy for sleep, and his heart flinched sympathetically. "Kapu?"

"It's alright Mozelle-" Gareth spoke softly, and flattened his ears. "It was just a dream. Kapu would never hurt you." Would he?

Mozelle then flinched physically, as if the mere sound of words hurt her. She knew that Kapu would never attack her--he had always acted docile and affectionate towards her--but that dream... it had been too real for her mind to register it as simply a dream. She thought there was more to it, but why should there be? She was no seer and she was sure that her dreams didn't foretell anything. But that feeling she had had...

She shook her head, raising slowly to her paws then walking away from him. She stopped a foot or two away with her head lowered and her tail drooping. The female no longer appeared strong or beautiful.

"Nono, you are right. But..." But what? "Oh I don't know," she huffed, mostly to herself. Immediately afterwards she plopped down onto the ground, on her side with her back towards him.

It was quite obvious she was troubled.

Gareth watched as she rose, her body noticeably changed by doubt. Although as to whether or not it was still beautiful- to him, he still had never seen anyone look quite so lovely. But she was change enough to bring a frown to his face. She did not seem as confident now... because of Kapu? Flattening his ears he stood as well, changing his position to a seated one as she slowly lowered herself down, back facing him.

“Bad dreams... maybe you’re worried about something?” He offered softly, his pale eyes blinking. “Do you want to talk about it?”

It was hard to tell what she would be worried about. Did she think Kapu would attack her now? For leaving home? He wished he was a stronger wolf. But he did know if anyone did come around looking to attack Mozelle, he’d fight them off to the best of his rather obscure abilities. A soft sigh rose in his chest at the thought.

“Mozelle?” He questioned again. She seemed somewhat lost in thought.

Mozelle sighed as well, rolling over gracefully to face him again. "I don't know.. it's simple but complicated." Was it so complicated? Right now she didn't really know. It could have been her brain and female feelings that had twisted her situation into a complicated one for all she knew.

Letting another sigh escape her lips, she resituated herself so that she was laying on her belly. Then she proceeded to close her eyes and after that place her paws over her eyes. She just didn't want to look at the world at the moment... not with things being as they were. Everything was just all too comlicated and tangled in her brain; all the female wanted to do was escape it all.

But it seemed that fate wouldn't let her escape it for so long. Stalking through the darkness of the bushes, hidden well in the shadows with his dark fur, was the former mate of Mozelle, the one that had gone missing mysteriously for over a year. He had asked around and followed what clues he had as to his mate's whereabouts. Eventually, he had landed here, and it seemed that his luck was rich and kind to him at the moment.

Now he was laying in await in the bushes, watching the two other wolves with his piercing yellow eyes. It was hard for him to stay where he was... that brown male was looking at his girl the wrong way and Kapu didn't like it one bit.

Finally he just couldn't take it. He stalked silently out of the shadows, after Mo had closed her eyes. He went confidently up to Gareth, his gaze stern and one canine tooth shining pearly white against his black lips in a threatening manner. His hackles rose and he folded his ears back aggressively. No male ever got near his mate without his permission...

“Complicated...? I have a lot of time– what is it?” He questioned gently, his face falling in concern. She seemed in a frozen state, hanging somewhere in a silver glow. Nervously he swallowed, and rose back to his feet. Maybe if-

And then, from the shadows of the woods, a large black male appeared. For a moment, he thought it was Phib, and first time in his life he had been relieved to see him. It wasn’t until after he saw the flash of bright, feral yellow eyes that a stab in his chest realized it wasn’t him. Such a strange feeling- he took a step back as if this figure wasn’t really even there. The bright yellow burned at his face, and he saw that this male locked eyes with him.

Mozelle’s eyes were closed- she didn’t even seem to notice. It was haunting, and peculiar, and he felt his own hackles rising before the male stopped a few feet in front of him.

His mouth opened slowly- “....ah–“ He breathed, entranced by the sharpness and the eerie mood.

Kapu continued to stare down the other male, not liking his proximity to the female at all. His hackles were reaching their maximum height as he prepared to lunge for the other. This would be an easy battle, he knew. Even though the other had some ear scars, which very well could have been from another battle, he didn't look at all like the fighter-type. And, having been an alpha for a couple of years, the black wolf was surely more suited for defending things, in this case his mate.

But before he could even get a chance to crouch down and grin, he was suddenly attacked by another wolf. He was attacked by...

"Aaka?"

The spotted female snarled at the one who had dared to even threaten Gareth. Though she hadn't been watching anything really, her keen ears had picked up the soft foot-falls of another wolf, larger too. She had also heard the brown male back off and sort of let out a surprised breath. This had alerted her and she had looked up to see this stranger advancing on her friend. Immediately she had leaped at him and was now wrestling with him, baring her teeth and attempting to grab ahold of his neck--the weak spot.

But this wasn't a one-sided fight. Kapu was fighting back, mostly out of deffense. It seemed that his deffense, however, was a bit too much. Already he had scratched her above her left eyebrow, leaving a trail of fresh blood to trickle down the side of her face. He had also gotten in a bite to her right forepaw, making her limp a little.

"You get away from him!" she snarled, still going at it despite her wounds.

With that, the male backed off, breathing hard from the tussle. Mo stood a few feet away from him, separating the two males as she stood close to Gareth. Her legs were shaking from exhaustion. This was not what she had planned for the morning.

Yet suddenly everything came into focus and she realized who it was.

"Kapu?"
PostPosted: Thu Jun 22, 2006 3:21 pm

It was a kind of sickening trance. Such yellow eyes, and total quiet- he was grinning now and slowly crouching, when out of the corner of his eyes, a flash of silver hit the dark shadow from the side. The spell ended, and instinctively Gareth leapt away, his tail curling beneath his stomach, but his ears remaining arched an alert. At least, the one that could did. “Mozelle!” He gasped, ice rolling through his veins.

Oh god, it was some crazed vagabond. Or this Phantom that was an enemy of Phib? Or, hell– it could be anyone. One of Carius’s thugs? A pounding shook his entire body. What could be done? Should he run to get Phib? Could he scream loud enough in his head for that seer to hear? Running, that was best. His knee bent backwards, although he was still staring in utter horror at the fight.

No- how could he run! Every time he ran, someone ended up dead. Even if he found his father, how long would it take to bring him here, and what if this beast had already done away with her? He’d lost a lot of friends in his day, but he could not loose her. He had promised her he wouldn’t leave. He couldn’t. What kind of person would he be if he did? He’d become everything he’d always heard people whisper about him behind his back.

Seconds it had taken him for him to embattle himself in his thoughts, and Mozelle had a gash against her head. Nervously he yipped and started to run around the combatants. What could he do- throw himself between them? He didn’t even see a between!

But luckily, the pulled away, and he ran to Mozelle with such a force he almost forgot to pull to a stop. She was bleeding, and his entire body flinched against it.

And then, a word fell from her mouth that chilled him even more. Kapu- this was her Kapu?

The two former mates simply looked at each other, each gasping in an attempt to regain their breath. Gareth was virtually forgotten as they couldn't help but stare at one another in disbelief, though Kapu seemed more surprised from being attacked than from actually seeing her. Mozelle, however, simply couldn't believe it.

"You.. but... how?!" she stammered, falling back onto her haunches and relaxing like nothing had ever happened. She was sorry for having attacked him, but then she was simply acting on instinct. She had seen a wolf threatening one of her good friends and well.. it simply all fell from that.

The black male merely smiled and shook his head. "When I went back to the pack and found you gone, I couldn't help but try and find you. Amy was doing well enough with the pack and her mate. Oh! And you won't believe it! Aaka... we're grandparents." This last drew a gasp from the female. It didn't even matter that he had called her by her old name, it was the fact that Amy had had pups that gave her excitement.

"That's wonderful!" she yipped, wagging her tail. It took all of her self-control, however, to keep her from howling out her excitement. News froma distant land didn't matter to others here. But man... grandparents! (What a way to make her feel old.)

Chuckling to himself, Kapu settled back on his haunches as well. But when he noticed Gareth again, he couldn't help but stand up and growl, hackles raising again.

"Kapu!" she growled, standing as well with her eyes narrowed--which rather hurt with her bleeding face. "Don't you dare lay a paw on him. He's a good friend. Gareth is his name. Be nice."

The black male didn't really know how to respond. This was the first time that his mate had ever told him to lay off a male. Randomly he began to piece together this strange and new puzzle. She was defending this male, standing close to him... his eyes widened in shock. He'd recognize that feeling anywhere. Kapu had had his own version of it: he had fought with his brother, almost went after his mother once, when he had found Aaka and fell for her.

"Aaka.. get away from him. He's messing with your head and you aren't thinking straight."

Mozelle shook her head for a moment, spraying off little blood droplets as she did so. "Messing with my head? Kapu, have you rested recently? I think you are the one who isn't thinking straight. Just stay away from him. I... I don't want to have to fight you again."

Oh yeah, now Kapu was certain. His tail bristled as he found himself losing his only sense of stability left in the world. "Aaka... don't you see? He's coming in between us. He's stealing you away." Suddenly his voice became more firm and he growled again. "Get away from him."
