Written here is what is found hidden in the annals of the Black Library, source of all knowledge now and ever. In every of the infinite facets of the multiverse this place is found and so is its knowledge. Seek here the knowledge lost with its keepers.
I am the keeper of this section of these hallowed halls, the section belonging to your universe and the infinite and myriad paths it can take down the halls of fate. I will tell you the stories of that which will be, that which is, that which was, and that which may be. Sit down a spell. Here, in the corner. Now wait while I take down a tome so I may start my tale. That is why you are here? Is it not? Or are you here to visit the Inner Sanctum? Either way sit a spell, it will be a long while before the Guardians of this place come. Now here it is. 'Of the Old Ones.' The earliest history of this universe, for a tome from these walls can only appear if someone has written of it or told of it somewhere, somewhen. This is not a record keepen by the Old Ones themselves, I am not permitted to show someone of your low stature such a thing beyond your comprehension. This is a very good abridgement by a very acurate Eldar historian, I would hope you meet him someday but I doubt it. Now let us begin.

Of the Old Ones: Before the dawn of man, beast, elf, or spirit there were the Old Ones, now known as the Old Gods and Elder Gods by those uninformed. They differ greatly from the Old Gods and Elder Gods in that they were never gods. The Old Ones were born of flesh and blood as you or I, though other such writings claim they surpassed this by the time the last ones disappeared with the fall of the Elves. While the ancestors of man were still grasping even the concept of fire they were far beyond what man will reach even in hundreds of thousands of years. Legend holds that the Old Ones were the first to ever learn the secrets of the stars and the place between, the Immaterium. They constructed great ships of materials unheard of since. They traversed the black between the stars like you orI would step outside to visit a neighbour. In all their travels they only wished to learn and teach, never inciting war. But, if war were brought to them they would fight with a ferocity that would frighten lesserbeings into surrendering quickly. But then came the Necrontyr. They were a sad race, of short life and bitter mind. Belonging to a dead and dying world where the enviromental was opposed to life, theses sardonic beings lived to die and relied on science to stretch out their short lives. The Necrontyr fled from their world when they learned the power of space flight, though it was long and slow because they never learned the power of the Empyrean. In their ships of living metal they spread across the meager planets surrounding their homeworld, hoping to escape the slow death at home. This was all to no avail though, for their worlds were all similair. After a long while they encountered the Old Ones and they resented them. Where the Old Ones were all powerful and kind, the Necrontyr were spiteful and weak. They struck out at the Old Ones and failed time and time again. For centuries they did this. But one day the poor necrontyr found something, something that would give them the edge in their war of attrition against the Old Ones. They found it feeding upon their star, it was nothing more than an odd form of energy. Give me a moment, before I can continue on to our next tale I must interrupt us and tell you of the Necrontyr. This story is oh so bitter, the poor Necrontyr having their hands forced like that.

Of the C'Tan and the Necrontyr: The necrontyr studied it for decades if not centuries. They learned that the energy was sentient and hungry. It feeded on the life of stars and that need to feed never seemed to end. They learned how to communicate with it, albeit rudimentarily. It whispered secrets and promises into their ears and they listened. To truly learn the secrets though it had to have physical form, so they gave it to it. The Necrontyr, using the powerful and strange living metal known as Necrodermis, and gave it form. They named what it is C'Tan, star god in their language, and it coalesced into a form well known by all, then and today. As the metal took shape they saw the Nightbringer, death incarnate. The C'Tan had known nothing of living beings before this. Despite this, what one would usually think would be a time of curiosity and learning, turned into a blood bath. The Nightbringer began to slaughter the Necrontye like flies, consuming their energy and killing millions. Quickly they pledged their eternal servitude to the monster. Eventually they did similiar to dozens upon dozens of other C'tan, one at a time forcing the remaing Necrontyr to pledge their allegiance to one. Eventually one of the C'Tan, possibly the one that would later become known as the Deceiver, offered to aid them in destroying the Old Ones and give them inmmortal bodies in which to last the ages if they literally served them for all eternity. The Necrontyr were overjoyed. They had never heard of such a prize. They gave in almost instantly and their essences were removed from the bodies by the C'Tan. The star beings then placed the essences in bodies of Necrodermis. But because the Empyrean is anathema to the C'Tan tey were unable to take the soul, who's essence is made from the stuff of the Empyrean, with their mind and essence. The Necrontyr were forever transformed into the soulless autamata later to be known as the Necron. Hmmph, the Necrontyr. I have seen one only once in person, otherwise I must contend to these sketches from the books and tomes. Luckily not one has ever been permitted to the Inner Sanctum. Hopefully one never will.

Of the Old Ones and the Eldar: In the beginning there was no barrier between the gods and mortals. Isha, goddess of life, created the Eldar in her great sadness. She loved them and they loved her. But one day Lilleath, goddess of fate, foresaw the Eldar bringing down the great god of war, Khaine. Khaine, in his rage, decided to destroy them before they could do this. The slaughter was epic and Isha begged of Asuryan, lord of the gods, to stop him. Asuryan declared that the gods and mortals were never to communicate again and he created a barrier between them. For now Khaine was halted. Isha and her consort Kurnous, the god of the hunt found this to be to much. They begged of Vaul, the smith god, to find a way for them to see their children again. Vaul, in his kindness, created for mthem the spirit stones. With these simple artefacts they were able to communicate and teach their children in secret. One day, Khaine came across the two communicating with thier children. Ina ll his capricousness he went to Asuryan. Asuryan was sympathetic with them but they had broken his laws and they had to be punished. He declared that they were to be given to Khaine to do with as he pleased. The god was monstrous and cruel, torturing them with every tool and art he knew. The other gods believed that Khaine was going to far. They all stayed quiet, fearing the war god, save one. Vaul stood up and petitioned for their freedom. After long days and nights of negotiation Khaine and Vaul came to an agreement, in one years time Isha and Kurnous would be released. But in return the smith god had to forge one hundred swords of might. The smith god's skill was so great that the blades were found to of impossible valuable and even mortal would be able to slay a thousand warriors wielding mundane weapons. A year had hence passed and Vaul had only finished ninety-nine of the blades. Vaul, knowing that this would make the deal void, set about to trick the war god. He set within the group a mortal blade, hoping the god would not notice. Luckily he did not. Khaine was overjoyed with Vaul's work and released Isha and Kurnous. But he learned of the trick eventually, though only after his prisoners were long gone. He raged, claiming Vaul to be a cheat and liar. He made out to make Vaul pay. Now began a great war, though not quite so epic as the War in Heaven though they share the same name. The gods polarised, half tunring to Khaine and the other to Vaul. Acts of horror and heroism were commited by both sides and eventually Vaul relented and reforged the mortal sword. When the smith god finally finished working the blade he gave it to the great falcon, whom was to deliver it to Khaine to finally end the war. Foolishly, the great falcon delivered the blade to the Eldar hero Eldanesh of the Red Moon. Eldanesh, greatest of all Eldar then or now, challenged Khaine to single combat. This enraged the god even more, how could a mere mortal be this insolent. They fought. Eldanesh fought well, the battle lasting a day and a night, but in the end could not prevail against the violent god. Khaine impaled the hero upon the edge of his blade and allowed his blood to drip down it upon his hand. From his hand the blood would now drip for all eternity, even after the Great Enemy had shattered him. Asuryan then declared the war over, having seen enough bloodshed for an eternity. Khaine had gotten his revenge and he strode off the battle field. Now to get to the important stories, the true texts of history. This dry and over told legend has been told to many times. Now for the true War in Heaven. Give me a moment to find the correct tome, oh so many copies of dozens of books with the same name.

Of the War in Heaven: This great war was against the C'Tan, known as the Yngir in the tongue of the old race. It is unknown if this takes place before or after the internicine war between the gods, though it is likely it takes place before for it is when Khaine learns of Vaul's betrayal. The Necrontyr had finally become the Necron and the Yngir had now begun to keep their side of the deal. They set out upon the gods and the War in Heaven had begun. The Yngir and their slaves slaughtered their way through the Old Ones and their children, the Eldar. The forefront of these attacks being led by the Nightbringer and the Void Dragon, who is the mightiest of all the Yngir. The Nightbringer, who would become Khaelis-Ra to the old race, was able to project the imgae of death upon the Eldar, scatter them to the wind so they could be harvested for their energy. Khaine found the bravery of the Eldar fighting the skeletal silvered hosts of the Yngir unflinchingly beauteous. He joined them in battle and carved a swath through the never ending horde of silver, skeletal figures. He and the Eldar who followed his ways carved a burning sea across the galaxy, slaying the silver host where ever they could route it. Eventually the Eldar could no longer stand against Khaelis-Ra and they fled in terror, worrying for their very existence. This is when Cegorach, the great harlequin god, and his troubadoures took up arms. They faced down the Yngir with unflinching bravery, greater bravery even than that of Khaine's armies. They deceived the Yngir, even the Great Deceiver himself, and put them at each others throats. They began to consume each other in a great rage, giving the Eldar time to regroup. Eventually the Outsider and Khaelis-Ra consumed all but a few of their brethren. Of the two the Outsider went insane and fled the known galaxy, not to be seen again, and Khaelis-Ra became lethargic, falling a sleep for millions upon millions of years. The Eldar cheered their brothers and picked up their swords and spears to once again take the fight. khaine and ninety-nine of his greatest warriors took up the forefront of the charge. Here Khaelis-Ra made his final move before taking his great sleep. As Khaine and the mighty warriors wielding Vaul's Wraith-blades became the last of the ten-thousand strong army Khaelis-Ra burst from the ground and ten-thousand more of the silvered host appeared as from nowhere. Khaine fought Khaelis-Ra himself and each of the ninety-nine heroes felled aten-thousand of the silvered host each. After seven days and seven nights the host of Khaine began to falter. The Yngir had found a weakness in the circle, Lanthrilaq the Swift's blade had no soul within it and he could no longer continue fighting. As he fell the silvered host fell upon their flanks and split them up, killing them one at a time. KHaine was enraged beyond compare as he realizes Vaul's betrayal, though he would take that revenge later. Khaine roared in anger and struck up his mighty spear and the wraith blade at once. He and the Yngir fought for what seemed an eternity until Khaine shattered the beasts's living metal skin. The Yngir fled as Khaine's body was hailed with splinters of the corrupted metal, forever giving him the aspect of the Reaper. Some of the heroes survived and they rallied what was left of the failing army. They retreated one step at a time. Vaul, in an act of desperation, was using the soul stones he had once given Isha to communicate with her children to make invincible warriros who would be equals of the the gods themselves. Here Vaul crafted the Ghost Warriors. Mighty machines in which the souls and minds of the greatest of Eldar warriors could willingly continue the fight. Only ten were made at that time and they made the final stand amongst their living brothers upon the Eldar home world. The Wraith Knight swield the stuff of the Empyrean itself and it was anathema to the Yngir and their warriors. The Void Dragon led wave after wave of the silvered host against the Wraith Knights but none could stand against their might. Vaul took advantage of this and began working on his greatest craetions, the Talismans. As Vaul forged the last one the Void Dragon was prepared to make the killing blow, but first he had to feed so he could slay at full power. The Talismans wielded the Eyes of the Witches, mighty artefacts that allowed the souls of dead Eldar to channel the power of the Empyrean in unimaginable amounts. As the Void Dragon manifested to feed on a star Vaul sent in the Talismans to destroy him forever. The Talismans were activated and fired upon the surprised Yngir.
Here the tale of the Void Dragon's fate ends. Notes written long afterward believe that Vaul failed to destroy him, but it likely waekend him and stopped his methodical slaughter.
The war was nearly over, the gods and Eldar had stood their own and were now preparing the end the war. In the time hence the Eldar had been stirring up creatures native to the Empyrean and they had become enraged as well. Before the Eldar could make the killing blow a race of, what we humans would call, demons used the Eldar tapping into the Empyrean to turn them into portals. Wave after wave of demons poored through and the Eldar turned their attentoin to them and the Yngir, for the Warp is anathema to them. When the demons were slain the galaxy was at peace again, though at the cost of untold trillions of lives. Hmm, an interesting story to say the least. One of my favorites to tell the truth. Now what's next. Ah' 'The Fall of the Eldar.'

Of the Fall of the Eldar: It will be several aeons before this horrid event takes place, but its history is still recorded here. The Black Library has knowledge of everything: past, present, or future. In the interceding aeons man had risen in power, war had orn its way across the galaxy uncountable times, and the Eldar had forged their galaxy spanning empire. The Eldar had become haughty and decadent as their empire required less and less of them. As they became more decadent and debauched so did the impressions they left upon the Empyrean. For sentience fed emotion into that insane place and created, in turn, akind of sentient energy there. The decadence and debauchery of an entire race slowly, and without the knowledge of most, created a dark and horrible thing within the Empyrean. As time went on most of the Eldar ignored it, but the greatest of the races seers foresaw this and shouted their warning, but it fell unto deaf ears. Lo! The horrors their ignorance would create! But there were some who would heed the warnings. Those who had not fallen into the debauchery, the clergy, warriors, merchants, harlequins, and explorers, heard the warning and felt it. The prepared as best they could. The merchants fled as far as they could upon their great and mighty Craftworlds, mighty spaceshuttles oft times the size of a large moon and containing countless cities and wonders. The Exodite explorers fled to the worlds at the farthest flung reaches of the wide empire, places at the edge of the known galaxy far from the heart of the empire in the galactic north. The Harlequins fled into the webway, not to be seen until after the Fall and the destruction of an entire species. The priests though, held their ground, preparing for the worst and sent off the youngest and brightest with the craftworlds to ensure they had some future. By now it was too late by far. Such demons as Shaha Gatthon had already infiltrated into the depths of Eldar society and preached. They preached of a god not whom bore the Eldar but the Eldar bore instead. A great and wonderful god who would rush them into an age of peace and prosperity that would last until the end of all. It was all a lie. It al started on a world at the core of Eldar society, their home-world with its long fogotten name. There a horrible malignance was borne into the Empyrean. It had slept for millenia, feeding and growing off of the pleasures and decadence echoed into the Empyrean by the debauched Eldar. It now awoke and began feeding directly off of what had created it. A billion billion Eldar died all at once as their souls were drained from their bodies to feed the awakening god. The psychic backlash would shake the very foundations of the universe. The clergy made their last stand at this moment, though it was already too late by the time they struck. On the world known as Belial IV to the Imperium of man, the preisthood of Asuryan took to the surface a mighty blade forged of black crystal and the stuff of Khaine himself, all mighty death. The struck the new borne god a blow that barely shook it. They too died in pleasure and agony, but the blade was hidden by the last of them, not to be seen for ten-thousand years. Such a battle was reflected in the Empyrean as the gods themselves struck back to ensure their survival. None had any luck, all save Khaine and Cegorach are now believed dead. One after the other they died against this new born monster, to be named Slaanesh, or the Pleasured One. All except Khaine, who stood before the ever growing deity in arms and armor, and Cegorach, who hid behind Khaine as he fought to the last. Khaine struck out again and again but was unable to wound the horrid beast as it grew stronger off of Isha's children. Eventually he grew to tired to fight and Slaanesh moved in for the kill. She was about to finish him off and absorb his essence when another god, not one of the Eldar pantheon though, for Cegorach had now fled deep within the web-way and the rest were dead, but a horrible malignance such as itself born of the emotions given off by sentience. Khorne, it has been called for impossible eons, lord of skulls and war. He challenged the new-born god, claiming Khaine was his by right, for Khaine was god of war as he. The two Kaos gods fought and Khaine was able to do one final act before the two finished. He picked up his own mighty blade and stabbed himself in the chest. A thousand, thousand cracks ran along his body and he shattered. His essence was sent screaming towards the Exodite worlds and Craftworlds so that he may still serve the Eldar. From hence what was left of him would become the Avatars of Khaine, almighty incarnations of him brought to bear against the enemies of the Eldar. The battle ended and Khorne screamed his rage as Khaine once did, forever swearing rivalry between those two gods. The psychic backlash caused by the birth of the god caused several things. First, it created the malignant galactic tuor slowly spreading across the sky to be called the Ocular Terribus by Imperial Astrologers. Second, it destroyed the odd and massive warp-storms spread throughout the galaxy, rushing in the Age of the Imperium of Man and the great Crusade. Here ends the tale of the Fall of the Eldar.

Of Cegorach, Ynead and the Rhana Dandra: Cegorach I will tell you of, but of Ynead and the Rhana Dandra? No, I cannot say. Those two go hand in hand with the end of all and by the word of the Guardians of the Black Library I am only allowed to tell those who have been into the Inner Sanctum and been allowed access all the knowledge, of those I know of only I and the great Inquisitor Czevak. Of Inquisitor Czevak, do not try to find him for the one you need to speak to will not exist for many aeons to come. Though I may give hints of them later. Cegorach is the Great Harlequin, jester of the gods. He is responsible for causing Khaelis-Ra and the Outsider to consume their brethren in a blood bath of star-energy and driving the latter insane. He is the only god who will survive the Fall of the Eldar, and even then slimly. Those of whom become Harlequins in his name will become protected from the Soulthirst of She Who's Name Is Thrice Damned, I will not repeat that name aloud again for some time following our last tale. His Harlequin Troupes now wander the galaxy, telling the tales of Eldar myth forgotten by all but them and defending this sacred place from the depreadtions of those not welcome in. Beyond this the records are sketchy and conceptual at best, but their seems to be a note about his involvement with the Lord of the Dead and the death of She Who's Name is thrice Damned. Here it is, "On the last day Cegorach will gather all the dead of his peoples and give them to the mustering Lord of the Dead to aid him in combating the Prince of Pleasure so that they may be reborn in a new earthly shell." Odd, I don't remember this ever being here and I read through these stories and books a thousand times over. But then again these ancient halls are mysterious and new books appear from somewhen every so often without a mention of anything. Ah ha! Here's one you might appreaciate, being human and all. Oh wait, are you human? No matter. This is on the Unification Wars on Terra and the rise to power of their Emperor of Mankind.
