Welcome to the GGV Introductions Thread!

Here's a chance to get to know everyone in the guild! Read the other member bios and then write something about yourself.

Not sure what to write? Here's a suggested list. Please note this is just a suggested list. You don't have to answer all of the questions.

How long have you been playing the violin/viola?
Do you play any other instruments? (If so, for how long?)
What is your favorite kind of music to listen to?
What solo piece/pieces are you working on right now?
Have you ever been in any orchestras?
Do you have a band/ have you ever been in a band?
Have you ever received any awards or unique opportunities from violin?
What style of violin/viola do you prefer? (Classical, fiddle, rock, jazz, etc.)
What is your general location? (Or specific if you're not afraid of stalkers)
What do you like to do in your free time?
Do you have any pets?
What is your favorite food?
What is an interesting fact about yourself that you want people to know?

Hello, I am TarienRose, captain of this guild.
My favorite piece is Massenet's Meditation from Thais. I performed that with my district's top high school orchestra when I was in 8th grade. That's always been one of my favorite pieces. I won a competition to perform it. It was great.
I am in my school orchestra (blah!) it's like going back to kindergarten for me. I am also in GTCYS (Greater Twin Cities Youth Symphonies) for my fourth year and this year I lucked out and got into the top orchestra. I have been in the anual state Middle Level Honors Orchestra for three years. Besides various quartets and string camp orchestras that I've been in that's pretty much it.

I have gone through six teachers since I started, and I am currently studying with Mary Sorlie. Occasionally I will have a lesson with Mary West or Yuri Merzhevsky, but I doubt you've heard of those people. Local stars, mostly. My training is classical, though I would love to be able to learn more about fiddle, and I would love to buy myself an electric violin. Maybe in the next few years...

Oh, and I'm a proud owner of a BAM shaped case. YES!

My name is Hawthorne. I am a winsome author with a lot of time on my hands and a strong appreciation for music, especially the violin.

I have a Yahama Silent Concert Edition Volin, black--of course--displayed in my sig at the time of this post. I haven't had it but six months to date.

I can barely play it yet as I haven't had time to get myself some actual lessons, plus, I keep breaking my strings. The g string in particular. I discovered that dispite my best efforts I seem to overtension it and, well, in times while I'm paractising under very high stress, the string just give way. I am hoping to find a new one that will not break on me soon.

I like violin music because it has a dark, etheral quality to it that tends to mimic the singing voice. Bands that have a violinist, chellist, or most any of those stringed family get the most attention out of me. I especially like to see the use of the violin in modern rock, pop, and other mainstream work.

I bought this violin partly because I have wanted to play violin for quite some time. I only recently came up with a viable excuse for the expendature, and one that has kept me at getting used to holding it, because my next book involves a violinist and I wanted to experience the feeling of playing one (even if doing so badly) so that I could better approximate the feeling to a reader.

Hi, I'm Bryson. I've been playing violin now for a little over 6 years now. I'm currently working on Accolay's Violin concerto in a minor, as well as Corelli's la Folia. I am currently taking lessons from Hyacinth Thlucek. Hrmm, I'm looking into buying an electric violin soon, although, who knows how soons soon is sweatdrop K. That's me.

Hello, my real name is **** ;3 and I've been playing violin for a little less than 12 years. When I first started playing I hated playing but my mother wouldn't let me stop. I learned English at the same time I learned Danish. I used to live in Denmark with my parents but after their divorce, I was almost 3, my mother moved me to America where she started me on violin. I started a youth career in a quartet when I was 10. My current teachers are Yoshiko ******* and Lynn *****. I have no real favorite piece of music, I like most of them. I am not very smart in any school subject except Mathmatics and couldn't get anything higher than a 2.5 GPA if I tried. I love violin with a passion and would be honored to have the privilage to talk to anyone who shares the same passion.

Hi, I'm Mizuno (no, not my real name, but I go by that), and I have been playing violin since I was 5, tho I requested to when I was 3.
I don` really have a favorite piece, as I enjoy basically everything. I have been in the Regions and All-State orchestra of New Jersey, as well as Princeton orchestra, Rutgers orchestra, and my teacher's orchestra. I've enjoyed my time and experience at all of them, as I love to play with orchestras.
I am currently working on Concerto in E Minor, Opus 64 by Mendelssohn and am starting to work for the upcoming Regions.
As I mentioned before, I asked my mom if I could play the violin when I was 3....I was inspired when I saw my mom's friend's son play violin for us. However, it was decided that I should perhaps wait until I was 5. Since then, I've been through three violin teachers.
I feel honored to be in a guild with people who share the same passion for violin as me. =)

Hi, I'm Melodic. I've been playing violin for around eight years. It was the first instrument I was serious about (before then I had played around on my keyboard). Recently, I've been trying to expand my playing outside the realm of classical music. I've been mainly trying some jazzy pieces, working on my improv too. Like Bryson, I'm also trying to get myself an electric violin. Wouldn't mind trying one of those out.

Hi. I'm Kalile, and I've only been playing for four years. I wanted to ever since I first heard the sound, and when knew what it was called I told my mom. She had me play two years of piano, but I wanted to start right away and ended up playing six years. Then in sixth grade I started violin. I went too fast for the teacher, though, and ended up in a magnet middle school almost entirely self taught - vibrato, shifting, everything all taught to me by myself watching others. I tried out for the prestigious Midwest clinic with my eighth grade orchestra, and made it even though they only accept one middle school every other year, and they had accepted a middle school the year before. Unfortunately, I didn't get to go because I was moving on to high school. Now I go to the nationally acclaimed Las Vegas Acadamy, which also went to Midwest, although I didn't get to go either. I jumped from first orchestra to third, and have been invited to go to Boston to play with my orchestra. My school gets paid to play for people in Europe, and soon I'll be at that level. I've only had a teacher for about nine months.

My name is Athena. I've been playing violin for about seven years. I always loved music and was eager to play anything at the moment, and since violin was the only instrument that had a program I decided to do that, and I had always loved orchestrated music. That was when I was in fourth grade, I think. I've been in a burn-out stage for over a year and haven't really picked up my violin much unless for class at my highschool. But this year I've begun rather well and have carried up my passion for the violin as well.
I am currently in a rock band with two guy friends and I play the violin and piano in it. I would like to try out for the Detroit Symphony if possible or maybe even just the Pontiac Symphony. I don't really plan on taking my music anywhere as far as a career goes or for college, I just really enjoy playing. I love most arts and literary area's.
I'm working on Hungarian Dance by Brahms and another by Brahms called Symphony No. 3 I think... Quite honestly I don't pay too much attention to the names of them...lol. My favorite composer is Felix Mendelssohn even though I have never played any of his pieces as of yet, but I would love to get a hold of them. I do not take private lessons yet due to my burn-out period but will do so soon with Mr. Marrionette, for I greatly admire his playing and techniques.
Um...I think that's it as far as music goes and such. I mean, of course I want an electric violin...seems as though everyone does. Hawthorne, the violin in your sig was exactly the one I was looking at to buy. lol Apologies for the length

Wow, I'm the black sheep of the family, and that was meant literally. I've been playing viola for 5 years now. Yup, I'm working on my all-county and all-state piece, it is 'Meditation' By Bloch. This soung is ridicuously hard. I'm in treble cleft most of the time. But enough ranting, I'll end it here.
