De'Gelis entered the "lobby" of the Guild. The room was lit by lamps and was decorated in deep reds and blacks. A couple of De'Gelis's fellow thieves sat at the tables. De'Gelis payed them no mind and immediately sought out Bat, the guild manager.

He found Bat easily, as he was the only half-orc hunchback with black dreadlocks, pasty green skin and glittering black eyes in the entire guild. De'Gelis found him in his backroom inspecting his latest gain in rare gems. He cleared his throat and Bat looked up at him.
"Ah, De'Gelis, you're back," Bat said in his nasally voice. De'Gelis smiled at Bat. "Did you get my order?" Bat asked. De'Gelis shook his head.
"Sorry Bat, someone got there before me," De'Gelis replied regretfully.
"That's twice now," Bat stated knowingly.
"I know," De'Gelis reached into his pocket and tossed Bat the quarter sized emerald. Bat looked at him quizzically.
"Gwen sends her love," De'Gelis said and left the room by way of the nearest wall. De'Gelis walked back out into the "lobby" of the guild and headed for a set of stairs on the opposite side of the room. As he walked past one of the tables that was occupied, someone snickered. De'Gelis ignored it and kept walkling.
"So, De'Gelis," one of the other thieves said. "We hear you've been having some bad luck." De'Gelis stopped to face the one who spoke. The thief wasn't one that he knew well, but he had proved to be arrogant.
"We hear that someone keeps beatin' you to the punch," headded and his buddies snickered. De'Gelis raised his eyebrows as the thief went on.
"We've made a bet you see. A bet saying how long Bat will allow you to stick around despite your constant failure." All three of them began to laugh. De'Gelis turned to leave again.
"That's right wolf boy, walk away with your tail between you legs!" De'Gelis halted in his tracks. "Some top thief," the arrogant one said aside to his friends softly. De'Gelis whirled around and had the thief by the throat.
"Do you want to run that by me again?" De'Gelis growled as he lifted the theif from his chair. The other thieves were on their feet in a flash, weapons drawn. De'Gelis had been ready for that though and had dematerialized himself and his taunter, whom he still had by the throat.
"Do what you will," De'Gelis said, but they put their blades down. They all knew De'Gelis's reputation. De'Gelis pulled the arrogant one close to him and looked him in the eyes.
"Remember I could have killed you today," he growled, then released him. The theif gripped his throat and wheezed. De'Gelis merely turned and went up the staircase and into the attic spaces of the guild.

De'Gelis bolted the door to his quarters in the roofs of the guild. He lashed out in anger and his claws came in contact with the door, and left jagged marks in the wood. He walked over to his window (which was camoflaged to the outside eye) and peered out. He heard a soft knock on the door and ignored it. The knocking became more and more insistent. Growling to himself, De'Gelis unbolted the door and Bat hustled in.
"I have a job for you."

Oberon winced at Gwen's comment. "Maybe I have a lower pain threshold than you do. Then again, it's not everyday that I get attacked in my own guild." Oberon propped himself up on his elbow as best he could. De'Gelis nearly jumped on him.
"What happened?!" he asked in alarm.
"Got any Ice Whiskey?" Oberon asked back.

De'Gelis went over to the bar and pulled out a bottle of Ice Whiskey and walked back over to Oberon. He handed him the bottle and looked at him intently.

Oberon ignored Gwen's comment. He uncorked the bottle and took a swig.

"Do I look like I know Vauhn?!" Bat asked irritably.

Oberon winced as Gwen tied the bandages. He coughed and gagged when she asked him to remove his pants. The Ice Whiskey sprayed all over De'Gelis. Oberon cocked his eyebrow his purple eyes wide.
"Excuse me?"

De'Gelis wiped the whiskey from his face.

De'Gelis and Bat both looked at Vauhn.
"Join the club," they said in unison.

"I can assure you elf, my legs are fine. It was my chest that they slashed up," Oberon stated stubbornly.

Oberon looked at Gwen for a moment.
"You know, for someone as pretty as you, you certainly have a sarcastic tongue."

Bat paced in thought. "That is a very good question Vauhn. One we have yet to figure out." De'Gelis looked over his shoulder at Oberon and Gwen. They seemed to be getting along.

"Over my dead body. Catch me if you can!" Oberon said challengingly staring Gwen in the eyes.


"That sounds like a good idea." Bat said. De'Gelis went over to man the bar.

Bat drummed his fingers on the bar and De'Gelis passed him his whiskey.
"Ok, here's what we know:
1) Outside contacts being ratted on from inside the guild."

De'Gelis pondered. What else did they know?


"You obviously don't know how vampires thrive do you? Come nightfall I would have been strong enough to hunt," Oberon said watching Gwen's every move.
