Merloue slunk into the room and seated himself away from the other people, in the corner as usual.

Machus yawned slowly, one paw lifting to lightly rub the sleep from his eyes as he slunk into the new room. Lowering the paw, he was about to flop down on the couch when he saw Mer enter as well. Curious toward the other's separation from others, he approached with light steps. "Yo."

Mer looked up at Machus and blinked slowly, exhaling softly. People never seemed to leave him alone. "Hello," he replied, his voice soft.

Tail swishing lightly, Machus arched an eyebrow lightly. "Might I ask what you're doing over here all by yourself? Surely nothing is wrong...?"

Mer shrugged. "No, nothing is wrong. Why do you ask?" Mer tried to refrain from rolling his eyes. He was so tired of people being fake and superficial, only pretending to care.

Machus shrugged lightly at the other's response, cracking his neck. "Mm, simple curiosity. Why, is there something wrong with that?" Sitting on the armrest of a nearby chair, he snickered. "There's a fine line between concern and simple curiosity toward those that surround one," he murmured lightly.

Mer studied the fox before him. He had quite the interesting hair. "Curious, were you? Why would anyone be curious about I?" he asked, his voice a slow, bored drawl. He seemed disinterested, but in reality, this figure intrigued him. Not that he would admit it, mind.

Leaning back against the chair and folding his arms behind his head, one leg folded over the other. "Why would anyone be curious about anything?" Machus's response to the other's question was simply one of the same. "Perhaps then the real answer lies in the inverse. Why not? If one has nothing better to do or nothing worth wondering about, they have a tendency to search something out that they don't know about or understand, thus piquing their curiosity."

Mer nodded, resting his arms on his knees. "Agreed. But I see plenty of other things that should have piqued your interest as opposed to me. I am the loner, the social outcast by choice. The person I personify to the world is not hard to understand at all." He paused, looking up at Machus. "And you? Are you hard to understand?"

Fingers brushing through his hair, he chuckled lightly and shook his head. "Seems I made a wise choice. You claim to be the sort of person whose exterior is like glass, so simple to understand, but your words explaining so, your personal reasons for this choice... It's more like trying to look through solid concrete than glass." Closing his eyes partway, he tilted his head to look down on the other. "How can I know? Each person has their own interpretations of 'hard' and 'easy' to understand."

Mer smirked slightly. "I think I like that description," he said, the tone of his voice changing slightly, to an almost welcoming note. "Agreed. Then answer this. Do you find yourself a complex being?

Machus smirked as well, letting his eyes close. "Weeeelllllllll, I would like to say I was a complex being, that I was capable of individual thought and free will, rather than a being whose life is basically a program of survival." Sighing, he licked his lips. "But how can I say that's not what I'm doing? Simply filling the space as survival is made easy by my adoptive parent?"

Mer moved his arms to behind his head and leaned back. "Survival is never easy," he said softly, his eyes glazing over with a sudden harshness. "No matter how coushy your life is, some day reality will hit you in the face and you'll be forced to cope." He closed his eyes, sighing softly.

"Mmm... that is true," Machus murmured as he considered that. Shrugging his shoulders lightly, he shifted so his legs hung over one armrest, his neck rested against the other, and his midsection rested in the chair, head on the side nearer to Mer. "Let me rephrase that then. As survival is currently simplified by my adoptive mum, how can I tell if I am not a simple being, no different from a field mouse or crow? For the time I may seem complex, but when it comes down to it, would I seem more to be a complex or simple being? Without experimental data, how can it be said?"

Mer opened one eye to look at Machus. "As I also don't have any data on that particular question, I could not say," he said softly, closing his eye again. "Hey, what is your name any way? I don't believe we've introduced ourselves."
