It was a quaint little resteraunt tucked inbetween two large, contemporary office buildings that she had overlooked many a time during her travels throughout Barton Town. The young, blonde woman was partly ashamed of herself for never having noticed it. The chairs were the most comfortable things she'd sat in for a year, at least, and Green decided that this had been the absolute perfect stop to make after a long, hard day of errand-running.
She cast a sideways glance at the little gold pot and the leaf planted inside it that sat on her table. The moment she'd finally managed to struggle the little green plant into the soil Green had noticed the contented way the leaf seemed to relax. Mere hours later, however, it had bgeun to twitch and strain again. Hoping that some form of new surroundings might refresh and comfort the soul within, she had managed to arrange it so that she could spend the entire afternoon with just the leaf. Unfortunately, her efforts had only made the problem worse.
For a moment, her mind wandered to her home where she'd left her oldest daughter in charge. Wishing that she could get back to them, she sighed and looked at her watch. The hands read 12:45.
Damn. She'd been there nearly a half an hour and still hadn't recieved any service!
"Excuse me?" she waved a skinny waiter over in a friendly manner.
"Hmm?" When he smiled his gums showed.
"I hate to be a bother," Green told him, "but, might I be able to get a menu?"
"Aye," he said with a nod so vigorous that strands of his black hair fell into his eyes, "I'm sorry that you've been waiting so long, miss. Indeed, I saw you come in -What was it? 30 minutes ago?- but I'm afraid we've been delt a rather nasty hand of bad luck."
He gestured at the room around him, "We're swamped with customers and TWO of our waitresses haven't shown up for work and a cook slipped on some water. Sprained her ankle bad, she did. Its been a right mess- but, I'll go get you those menus!"
The young man was gone so swiftly that Green hadn't a change to thank him. She glanced around the room.
'If anybody else shows up they might have to share my table,' she thought dryly.

Red hair tumbled down the sides of her face and though she had attempted to gather her hair into two large curly pigtails it looked more like a mess than anything else. A notebook tucked into her arm she found this day was going very badly. First she had awoken to find her alarm for some unknown reason how not gone off, thus her morning included one rushed and very cold bath a bite of stale toast and then a rushing out her door.
She was of course late to work because of exceedingly irregular traffic jams and accidents. This just wasn't her day. Now on her lunch break which she had to take late because she started late, she clutched her laptop which was safely nestled in its carrying bag and waited to be seated.
The restaurant was full, another great thing...she tried to convince herself that bad things only come in three's thus after this event got over with things would be better. She stood for ten minutes waiting and waiting for some waiter or waitress or some sort of management to take her name and find her a table.
But everyone was busy moving briskly back and forth she ground her teeth and adjusted her work suit. Her high heels were starting to hurt her feet. With a cough she caught the attention of a young waiter who was quickly walking past her and heading towards the kitchens.
"Excuse me sir.." She started, and though her voice was loud by nature it didn't seem loud enough to really catch the attention of that man. She tried to resist grabbing him and instead said in a louder tone . "Excuse me SIR, but i have been waiting ten minutes to be seated." She knew he voice carried over the chattering drone of the people in the restaurant and she turned several heads. But this was her nature...she could project her voice very well, loud and clear.
The gentlemen halted his movements and gave her a look as if 'Oh god not another one' but moved towards her anyway. He adjusted his collar and cuff before answering her.
"Sorry Miss, but we are understaffed today. And very busy." He said with a gesture to the already bustling restaurant. "Unless you will share a table with someone, I am afraid you will have to wait at least forty minutes for a table." His tone was not reassuring as if all he wanted was for her to leave.
She gave a grim smile, not willing to leave so easily. "I will share a table thank you. And I already know what I want to order so I won't need a menu." she continued as she saw him reach for one. He gave a sigh that sounded nearly exasperated and then waved her to fallow him. He led her to a table where a young blonde woman sat looking equally as annoyed as she was. Though the weirdest thing struck her about the scene a little potting leaf sat in a gold pot directly next to the woman. As she sat down she tried not to stare and placed her laptop bag onto the table top on her right.
But before she could turn to the fellow who had lead her to this table he was already gone strutting off to do some other menial task, she gritted her teeth again.
"I don't suppose you have already ordered?" she asked in a tone that sounded like forced friendliness. "Cause somehow I think it may take a while before I will get to.." she sounded annoyed as her head turned and followed the figure of the young man. She would make sure she got his name and made a formal complaint against him to his manager.

Green looked up from her menus and at the stranger with a surprised expression. She hadn't imagined that she'd actually end up sharing her table with somebody! Green folded her menu and pushed it in the other woman's direction, silently asking if she would like to see it.
"No, I haven't ordered yet," she smiled kindly at the stranger and waved at the chair across from her, "Have a seat. Its incredibly busy here. According to one of the waiters, two of their waitresses haven't shown up for duty and one of their cooks sprained her ankle. I feel bad for them... Its the first time I've been here, you know. I was hoping the service would be good."
She examined the stranger with a curious expression on her face. A laptop and a carrying bag, eh?
"Let me guess," there was a mischevious smile on her face, "Lunchbreak?"
The leaf, intrigued by the newcomer, continued to twitch in her pot.

Jayoku got comfertable in the chair and adjusted where her lap top sat and swung her carrying case onto the back of teh seat. She gave a deep sigh like she had been holding her breath the entire time she had been waiting.
"Ah well that would explain why they are so slow today.." she mused looking over the blonde curiously and noticing the leaf in the pot seemed to be twitching? Was that thing alive? She attempted not to stare.
As the menue was pushed towards her she shook her head and stopped it's advancement. "Sorry I already know what I want. I frequant here regularly." she explained her hand twitching to her laptop itching to get so more work done.
"And yes I guess all my stuff gave away that I am only on a break from work." she said idly wondering dryly if she really that obvious. "How about you? I don't recall ever seeing you in the area before. New here?"

"Its unfortunate that bad luck's decided to hit them so strongly today," Green sighed and tucked a stray strand of hair behind her ear, "This is the first time I've been here... and I was hoping that the service might make me want to come back."
She noticed the other woman's eyes on the leaf but refrained from explaining what it was just yet. If the woman really wanted to know she would just have to come out and ask.
"The name's Green," she said with a smile, holding her hand out for the woman to shake if she wished.

Jayoku nodded her head and felt awefully thirsty.. why hadn't the guy at least poured them water before rushing off like that? She tried to bridle her seething anger, at the least she didn't want to direct to the woman she was sitting with. She didn't deserve that.
Raising an eyebrow she gave a half smile. "Names Jayoku." she answered shifting position. She didn't normally wear skirts but for some unfathomable reason she did today...she regretted it.
The awkward silence grew..."Yah well the service isn't usually so bad here..." she trailed off not knowing what else to bring up as a topic..."Um...nice leaf you have there." she said pointing a slender manicured finger towards the golden pot.

Green was a bit surprised when the woman didn't shake her offered hand and with a shrug, she folded her hands and set them on her lap. The smile that was often present on her face hadn't dissapeared entirely but it had faltered a bit.
She'd always been a bit self-conscious around strangers.
"Its nice to meet you," Green nodded. The young woman was very much aware of the silence between them and sighed in relief when the other woman finally broke it.
"Thank you," she glanced at the potted leaf beside her that was twitching and shake now more than ever and turned back to Jayoku with a mishevious smile.
"I'd tell you, but I wonder if you'd believe me?"

A frown anchored itself firmly in place as she gazed as Green, she tapped idly a finger nail on the table top a questioning look in her eyes.
"I don't know what you mean..." she trailed looking again at the woman and then the leaf. "What wouldn't i believe? That is isn't a plant?" she said with a more sarcastic tone that was unintentinal. Today just wasn't her day. SHe winced and looked down at the table a moment and then avoided Green's gaze.
"Sorry, that wasn't directed to you personally. I am just having a bad day is all." she continued the then ran a hand through her hair. "No tell me I would like to know what sort of secret you may be hiding behind that smile of yours."

The whole situation was rather amusing. Green had never considred actually having to tell somebody, let alone a stranger whom she knew next to nothing about, that she possessed a leaf that would one day grow into a child.
Would Jayoku think she was crazy?
"There was no harm done," Green laughed, refering to the sarcastic tone the other woman had used. Then, she wrapped two hands around the base of the pot and pushed it towards Jayoku so that she could get a better look.
The leaf inside was completey still now and its stem was stiffly pointed straight up into the air as if it was frightened or surprised.
"Its not any ordinary plant."
She was thoroughly enjoying the way things were heading. It was like the begining of some cheesy mystery movie. Or maybe horror, but that was a bit of a stretch.
"This leaf," Green pointed at it, "is supposedly going to turn into a child."

Jayoku leaned back a bit as the pot was pushed in her direction, she did notice that the leaf no longer moved as if the wind had suddenly stopped. She was glad Green didn't seem mad about her mood, it was nice ot have someone not jump at your throat for being annoyed.
When Green explained she looked one eyebrow raised in question.
"A child?" she wondered...did she mean figuratively? like she would lvoe the plant as if it was her very own child? Or literally? she seemed a bit dumbstruck as she sat staring at the little leaf, her frown still anchored dubiously.

The look on Jayoku's face said it all.
"I knew you wouldn't believe me," Green laughed, eyes twinkling with glee. This was a lot more fun than she'd expected it to be.
"A real child," she stressed the sentence, "living, breathing, eating... Everything else any normal child can do."

Jayoku uncolded her arm's and reached tentitavely towards the lil leaf. "That....will become a child?" she repeated her frown still plastered on her face.
"Is it some strange horrible lab speciemen gone array?" She asked resisting the urge to poke the leaf and instead prodded the side of the pot as if trying to get a reaction.
"should i be reporting you to the police or something?"

"Yes and no," Green nodded and shook her head where it was necessary and watched with some amusement at Jayoku prodded the pot. It didn't react. Instead, the leaf curled up into something that resembled a ball and resumed twitching.
"Definately not," there was a note of alarm in her voice then. The police? If this woman didn't believe her it was very likely that the law wouldn't either.
"I found her in my basement and then, a month or so later, I received a letter explaining the leaf's strange behaviour. I was surprised, I'll admit, but the possibility of it turning into a child was a much more pleasant idea than it being possessed. Seriously, at one point I thought it might bite me."

Jayoku looked down squinting at the leaf that now curled up and was twitching once again. "Bite you...?" she murmmured watching the leaf intensely.
"You..don't mind if i touch it do you?" she asked her finger just inches way from touch the litle leaf... "And if you believe it is going to grow into a child do you know a name for the lil thing?" she asked her tone indicating she didn't believe this leaf would turn into anything much more than a plant....
