 Charlie sat down, setting his lyre down on his lap. Several days of failed attempts at a song for Tangel was really starting to annoy him. Usually, songs came to him as if by magic. But what was it about her that prevented him from being able to.
He was probably right. There were no words to describe her, so maybe that's why he couldn't come up with words. Maybe if he just made the notes...
He ran a paw over the strings, frowned, and tightened two of them.

"I see you're working on that again," Another stated, though whoever it was that was speaking chose to remain out of sight .. or so it seemed.
James leaned further back against the tree's trunk, shifting slightly on the branch he'd chosen to perch upon.
His head turned, grey eyes flickering downwards at the other audio for a brief moment before he looked up once more.
".. Still having trouble?"

"Aye. This is the first time I've had trouble like this," Charlie mused and hummed a little tune.
"Usually it comes so easy. It's like the music was already there inside of my soul just waiting to come out. But not now. It's like I actually am working from scratch, here," he added with a soft chuckle. Technically, he was working from scratch. Everything about the way he acted with her was new to him.

"Hm."
It wasn't as if he had all too much experience with matters like this .. hell, most of the time he preferred keeping to himself, and not associating with or dealing with others, unless it was something that just could not be avoided.

"I'm..." Charlie began then paused. That was a very good question. Come to think of it, he hadn't really considered what he was trying to compse for her, just something.
"Hmmm... I guess something that describes her, in my eyes," he replied with a shrug, sitting back against the tree trunk of the tree he was under.

"'Her'?" An eyebrow quirked, and James shifted and looked downwards once more, ".. Is 'her' the one you were getting those shells for?"
He let out a faint hum, ".. Does she like the ocean, or something? Perhaps .."
A small frown. Just why was he bothering to try and help the other, anyways ...
"If she does, perhaps you could think of something that'd be somewhat reminiscent of such."

"Aye, the one I was muttering about seashells for," Charlie sighed and rolled his eyes. Then he frowned in thought and nodded his head.
"That's a good idea," he said and ran his paw over the strings. The notes that came in sucession gave off a kind of rolling tune, like crystal surf. His eyes narrowed to give him a sleepy look as he watched his paw dance over the thin strings.
"Words may come," he said offhandedly with a shrug as he continued to play, "Or they may not."

He couldn't help but let out a soft chuckle, stretching out his arms above his head, letting paws fall into his lap as he leaned back against the trunk once more.
His own eyes began to drift shut as he listened to the music the other played, head giving a vague nod.
"Sometimes .. words aren't completely necessary."

Charlie nodded his head slowly.
"Words can't describe her. I've tried," he said with a little chuckle as he continued to play. The song was imprinted in his mind now, so he probably would never forget it. So, with a smooth group of notes, he traveled into a different song. This one was better with someone singing the words along with it, but the music was still very pretty.
And Charlie knew he couldn't sing.

James found himself beginning to hum softly under his breath in time with the other audio's playing. The new tune seemed to strike something within him, and the familiarity of it was odd, and yet far from unwelcome.
He found it comforting, almost; soothing, definately.
"... You're good .."
It was admitted in a light, somewhat flippant-sounding tone. But the sincerity was unmistakable, despite that.

"Thanks," Charlie replied, not even missing a beat.
"My family says that all the time when my sisters and I play for them," he added, smiling slightly at the thought. One of his elder sisters had such a beautiful voice and it wasn't even hidden much behind that weird accent that she seemed to be the only one to have.
"Besides, it's the only thing I do well. I've tried pretty much everything else and I'm not very good."

"Hm."
Stretching out a little once more, James sat up upon the branch, eyeing the ground below before leaping from it. He stumbled a little as he hit the ground, but managed to regain his balance by pressing a paw against the trunk.
".. It's sometimes easier going up, than down." He mused to himself, shaking out a leg and raising a paw to adjust his headphones.
Grey eyes looked over to Charlie, then down at his paw.
"Eh .." If he had pockets, there would be no doubt that he'd be stuffing his paws within them. He found himself outstretching one out to the bard, however, "I'm James .. and I apologise for acting like such a jerk to you the first time we, er, 'met'."

Charlie stopped playing, stood, and took James' outstretched hand, giving it a firm handshake.
"Charlie," he said and shrugged.
"I was rather cold, too. Still am a little, I guess. My family's been trying to change that, though," he added and leaned back against the tree trunk.
"Do you have family?"

Another low chuckle, "Can relate, I guess."
He looked off to the side, pondering over Charlie's question before giving a nod.
"Yeah, I do. The lot of them can be rather bothersome at times, but in the end .. yeah, they're family." He couldn't help but smirk slightly, "You might've seen, perhaps even met, Sain .. he's like us -" At this, James gestured at their headphones, ".. but rather loud. Well, at least his armour can be at times." A light snort, "Someone else has joined, too .. his name's Wil, though he hasn't made much of an appearance just yet."
Slight shrug at that.
"I'm sure it won't be long before he does, however ..."
James trailed off, a rather sheepish grin crossing his face, "I'm rambling, aren't I? I apologise."

Charlie waved a paw idly.
"Nah, no reason to apologise. I'm used to listening. And, yeah, I've met Sain. Noisy's a good word for him. Though, that's my opinion of most," Charlie replied.
"I'm supposed to recognize the whole family as being my siblings, but I don't. Only a few have... I know this sounds rather corny, but few have proven themselves worthy to be called my siblings," he said with a single laugh.
