I've been trying to figure this out, and it's been bugging me for a while.
Star Treck fan = Trekkie Firefly fan = Browncoat Stargate fan = Gatehead Lord of the Rings fan = Ringer Doctor Who fan = ?
What are we obsessed fans called? Lords of Insanity? Of course, I kind of already have that title, but anyways... Help please! biggrin

Doctor Who fans are generally refered to as "Whovians", most often by the press, although the term is not commonly used by fans themselves. smile

Whovians is the term I've always heard. Since the new series started showing in the US, I have also heard "Wholigans". Personally, I prefer Whovians.

I've never used the term in conversation, but it seems like Whovian is the commonly accepted name. I once tried to convert my classmate Mark, but his first story was the one with the Tractators (Frontios?), and he was not impressed. IIRC, he dubbed fans of the show as "Who-ies".
That's almost as bad as Wholigans... gonk

I like Wholigans! That's gonna be my DW fan description from now on.
Though I'm sure there must me a whole universe of Who-based names out there.
I realise it's not really a fan description but I always liked the name 'Time-Tots' used by the Doctor to describe young Timelords. I think. Unless I just imagined that... Or picked it up from a completely different show, which is entirely possible... confused
I still like the name though. And there must be others.

Hm... I guess Time Tot could work... kind of. I like Wholigans the best. That just... works! 3nodding But I wonder what other fan names are out there... Gallifreyans? Although that wouldn't really work... Hm. I can't think of any. sweatdrop

TARDISOIDS.... no, too much like TARDISODES - which is where I nicked it from. I guess you could have a different fan-name depending on which bits of Doctor Who you liked the best. Or which Doctors.
eg. Tom Baker fans would have some scarf related name. And Jon Pertwee fans would have some name to do with... err... frilly shirts? Yellow cars?
Ok so the Doctor idea might not work...
