I am so ashamed to ask this because I am like the biggest Final Fantasy VII fan but why is Sephiroth called the one winged angel????????

Because he's a fallen angel, which is a matephor for a fallen Shin-Ra S.O.L.D.I.E.R. He also has one wing in both Kingdom Hearts and Advent Children, the movie. I've never played Fianl Fantasy VII, so I don't know if he has a wing in there... sorry. sweatdrop

HE'S THE DEVIL! How could someone be an angel after all of the things he's done? He's evil plane and simple. And don't give me that "He was possed by Jenova" thing because he wasn't. He did all of those things on his own free will and insanity. Okay I think I've made my point.

Shiroku Strife HE'S THE DEVIL! How could someone be an angel after all of the things he's done? He's evil plane and simple. And don't give me that "He was possed by Jenova" thing because he wasn't. He did all of those things on his own free will and insanity. Okay I think I've made my point. Well, Lucifer WAS and angel once, too. Sephiroth was once the pride and joy of SOLDIER, but after his decent into madness, which was Jenova enduced in two different ways, he let down the people of SOLDIER and everyone, therefore becoming the "Fallen" SOLDIER. The One Winged Angel.

Safer Sephiroth did have one wing, and it wasn't black. I think they went a little too far with the whole one winged thing. Sephiroth looks much better without the wing on him.
Anyway, Sephiroth was once considered a guardian angel. He was a good person and a mentor to many SOLDIER minors. Such as Zack. But, seeking out his origins drove him to madness and he fell from the decent person he used to be. The "One Winged Angel" is a symbol of not having enough power in one wing to rise above the darkness. He fell, and became the chaotic killer we all know and love/hate.

The One Winged Angel. technically, he is none of the above, he the darkness in clouds heart, insanity had nothing to do with his massacre, he simply did it to, in lack of a better term, "prove a point"

Basically he never went insane, he learned the truth and rebuilt himself on that truth. That only made himself seem evil to others, and a priest to himself.
He was the One Winged Angel because they actually gave him a wing, which replaced his arm.

They call him the one-winged angel because he his a fallen angel and he has one angel wing, they also call him that because he used to be the saivor of shinra and the world before he turned evil.
