http://www.doublejumpbooks.com/yabbse/index.php?topic=3986.0Found in here. From what I heard, Akutare's offical English name is going to be "Axel/Axl". No, it's not that moron from KHII, I belive it's a parody from Guns N' Roses' Axel Rose. Mmm.. any thoughts on this? It's not bad name change, but I still perfer Akutare.

Aww, crap. I liked Akutare too... Ax(e)l's not so bad, though. It just doesn't have the same flair to it. ._.'

Well it makes sense all the other characters have english names or at least english sounding names. They are probly changing it so it is easir to read.

Pie The Trilogy Well it makes sense all the other characters have english names or at least english sounding names. They are probly changing it so it is easir to read. Fubuki, Yukimaru, Taro and Hanonko aren't "English" names to be exact Akutare will still be Akutare. Any fangirl who says he is named from KHII will get their a** kciked. :3 Hopefully they'll keep Yukimaru the same and Taro and so on. Seeing Taro and Hananoko are popular Japanese names.

Acording to NIS america, the reason for changing his name ist that Akutare is a joke. It is the literal combination of the word for evil "Aku" (as in Akuma) however it is also frequently treated as "Dark instaed of evil, and hero or "tare". Their was no way to translate this for american audiences, let alone make most understand it. It is also something to do with the Japanese Music culture, such stage names are (or were) aparently popular. Instaed they have Akutare as the name of his band (its not totaly gone wink , that would be foolish) and Dark Hero as his class.
The chioce for Axel probably is heavily inspired by Guns and Roses. I don't listen to them, but it seems like a good choice to pick an easily recognisable name to refrence.
And every time I hear about it, I want to play Kingdom Hearts 2 a little less... gonk

Well, they ment translating the meaning. Not translating the spoken words. I don't mind Axel to much, from all I can tell, its still pretty fiting for his character. Its just something american gamers wouldn't get, ya know.

Like Ryu, Axel is a popular vidoe game Character name.

And rythm and blues are popular names for twin (or coresponding) mechanical units (usually guns or robots), especially for capcom. Face it though, nothing says manly quite like the name of a car part. To bad we'll never see a monster named Internal Combustion Engine. rofl

Er...Guys, the guy from Guns n'Roses is called Axl, not Axel. smile I also believe that names don't need changing - IMO, despite what some broadcasters and game publishers believe, people aren't that stupid as to not learn how to pronounce or spell a name (unless they skipped school, that is).
