I'm having one of those weird days where I feel the urge to prepare my nest a little. So tonight, I am making a list of books I want in my future child's library.
I want a couple books (can be picture books, pure text, or mix) that portray homosexual or mixed-race couples. I know that most people who post in here are parents and many of you are very open-minded/liberal, so I figured you'd be the best people to ask. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Robert Munch books often show different raced families. "Something Good" Shows a black child with a white dad. ( Bob has a mixed race family as they adopted a few kids) Also, Bob's books are just awsome!

Brown bear, brown bear what do you see? shows a bunch of kids in a class very multiculteral. I would also suggest the arthur books because as wierd as it sounds I feel like the author was trying to portray a diverse world with all the different species living together. Oh and if you have a girl "the little princess" such a good book and it shows an upperclass white girl befriend a black servant girl, really huge in the day when the book was written. Oh and for just really kick as picture books any pop up books by robert sabuda he is an amazing artist, they are a tad pricey but so worth it. I will look in my sons library tommorow and see if I can find anything else I would seriously suggest.

My cousin is having a baby and she got this book called "Baby How To Guide: An Owner's Manual" (or something like that) and it was made like those big thick waterproof books that they give to babies and toddlers.
It had pictures of the "right" and "wrong" way to do different things and I thought it was simply HILERIOUS. Add the "wheel of responsibility" where you spin to see if mom or dad have to do whatever baby-related chore it is, and the book is sure to be a winner.
xd
I'm still thinking of the page entitled "feeding the baby":
RIGHT: *picture of woman feeding the baby with a bottle*
WRONG: *picture of woman shoving a turkey drumstick in the baby's face*

And Tango Makes Three
It's a true story of the penguins at the New York Central Park Zoo. A male pair mated and when all the other pairs were trying to raise eggs they too built a nest and started tending to an egg shaped rock. One of the zookeepers took an egg from another nest who had laid two (penguins generally will only raise one anyway and the other will go untended) and instead of incubating it switched out Roy and Silo's rock. Tango, (their daughter!) came along and they are a happy penguin family.
It gets at the heart of how having different families is no biggie and that many people (er...animals xd ) want to have and will raise children in a loving family.
